This has been the worst problem with these debates, you have a panel of moderators and none of them want to offend the other moderators by speaking up and taking control of the post question free for all while five or more of the hopefuls try and get a free shot in to score speaking points from the podium which is why you get the pie fight optics up there so often. Maybe just one moderator instead of diversity panels of them for virtue signaling or like you said, find that Republican bell they left around after 2016 and use that as the signal for whichever moderator's turn in the line it is to say, "Time is up, here's where we go for the 30 second followup," or, "moving on to the next question."

A tariff imposed by the United States on a good made in China is paid by the American who purchases that good in this country. The Chinese don't pay the tariff. If the US imposed tariff increases the price of the Chinese good to the point where they lose sales of that good as a result, that's how it hurts China's economy.

Harris tried to get gangster on their ass, especially Biden's, probably because Obama has already promised her an endorsement once his VP concedes apparently? I feel like the most ideal ticket after watching these two debates for the party would be Gillibrand/Gabbard (giving new meme meaning to the abbreviation GG) as a counterpoint to Trump/Pence in the general debates but I have a better chance of winning the powerball than those two do getting enough delegates as a ticket at the convention unless some implosions start taking out front runners to clear a path for them. Interesting tightrope Harris tried to use on Biden, "I don't consider you racist, but your past political acts and policies hurt me," shot across the VP's bow from the center of the varsity debate stage kind of rings hollow as apparently he didn't hold you down enough to derail your political ambitions but maybe she's hoping that emotion is going to defuse critical thinking about her claim? Just a weird line of argument to try and pursue as a way to damage his standing to me.

MSNBC host Joe Scarborough called the second night of the first 2020 Democratic debates a “disaster for the Democratic Party” and said that he hopes voters were not watching the face-off, which aired on his network.

"With apologies to our friends and watching, last night was a disaster for the Democratic Party," Scarborough said Friday on "Morning Joe." "My only hope is people were not watching and I will tell you why."

He went on to jab the candidates for criticizing each other instead of focusing their ire on President Trump.
“So they’re lined up in trench warfare, ready to get out of the trenches and charge Donald Trump. Instead, they all turn their guns on each other and shoot each other, and everybody is yelling at each other all night,” Scarborough said Friday morning.

“If you’re an American and this is your introduction to these candidates and the Democratic Party, and all you see are 12 people yelling at each other, trying to interrupt each other, insulting each other, you’re like, ‘You know what. I thought Donald Trump was a clown show. I’m changing the channel.'”

Scarborough called former Vice President Joe Biden’s performance one of “the most disturbing debate performances” he had seen, and questioned Biden for sticking closely to the debate’s rules and not focusing more specifically on issues in his answers.

“It was one of those moments where you’re going, 'My God, is he going to complete his sentence?'” Scarborough asked.

The host also accused Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) of not preparing for the debate and recycling tactics he used when he debated former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during the 2016 Democratic presidential primary.

“Bernie Sanders was yelling all night. Bernie Sanders didn’t prepare for the debate,” Scarborough said. “It showed because he basically gave the same debate performances this year that he gave four years ago. It may have worked when it was Bernie Sanders against Hillary Clinton. It did not work last night.”

Scarborough also criticized the Democratic candidates for adopting a slate of progressive policy platforms, including decriminalizing border crossings and providing health insurance through a public option to undocumented immigrants, suggesting that they would not be able to beat Trump with that focus.

“It was a bad sign for me, as someone who desperately wants to see Donald Trump taken out of office,” Scarborough said.

He slammed Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) for calling out Biden on his history of opposing the policy of busing black students to predominately white schools. One of the most heated moments of the debate came as the California senator attacked Biden's record on civil rights.

Scarborough said the “overwhelming majority of Americans” oppose busing as a means of integrating American schools. Fifty-nine percent of Americans opposed school busing in 2009, according to the Pew Research Center.

There is no contradiction. It is possible to be the most popular candidate (which matters for getting elected), while still being disliked by the majority. All you have to do is be less unpopular than everyone else.

On one hand he's right in that these guys all adopting Far Left "progressive" talking points and blindly attacking each other is stupid on the other he's just as much a dumbass for saying the debate should have just been a Trump bitchfest.

The average voter Left or Right is sick to death of hearing how Trump is an asshole.

They want to know how you plan to govern if you get the throne, how you plan to fix issues like healthcare,the job market,our border policy etc.

Yeah this is why I think Trump's disapproval rating doesn't really matter. Plenty of people who strongly dislike Donald Trump voted for Trump in 2016, and the same is going to be true in 2020.

As much as I want that again I think the second time around might be more hollow. That night they really thought they were going to win. This time there's this shadow of doubt hanging over the Democrats and I'm positive democratic voters feel it.

Considering it only takes 6 weeks of residency in Cali to get a driver's license, I feel like we should encourage foreign Kiwis of means to consider 2 months in a nice northern part, so they can get licensed, and automatically registered to vote.

What is it with these people and constantly looking at real life through the lens of Harry Potter?
 
People say they want the politicians to talk policies.These screaming bozos did discuss at least one pretty major policy proposal and they were all on board for this to varying degrees, but they all want this: Decriminalized border crossing with a tax hike on American citizens to give illegals healthcare. That's their policy, and the policy sucks.

That's the big take away from what Joe Scarborough said. That's a loser policy and everybody there was on board for it.
"We're going to build a wall and Mexico will pay for it" was the key hook for Candidate Trump becoming President Trump.
"We're going to let in illegals to give them socialized healthcare and Americans will pay for it!" is diametrically opposed to what won the last election. That's a loser-message.

Edit: They are also giving the game away on rich this and wealthy that and millionaire this and billionaire that. They're going to take money away from their principal enemy as a party now, White men, through tax hikes. Not rich people, not wealthy people, not the one percent, you and me. Bernie "Millionahs and billyunahs" Sanders point-blank said a Sanders presidency would be a tax hike on the middle class.
