To quote a lesson taught me in College by the late Democratic Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan. Legendarily the smartest man in the Senate. And one of the few that would actually do the math of any proposal. A Society has a choice; Social Welfare, such as Single Payer Healthcare, or open and largely unrestricted Immigration. You can't have both. Social Welfare only works if you have a near zero population delta. And you can see the wheels coming off many of the long established Social Welfare States in Europe as they have been forced to absorb millions of immigrants. The US for it's history has been one of the worlds largest recipients of immigrants. A side effect of that is it would quickly unbalance and swamp any attempts at broader social welfare.
 
It's appeal to emotion after appeal to emotion. "Illegal immigrants die and shit, let's massively damage our border policies"
