Tried to start a solo Dimitri run of 3H because I like the "he might be insane or ghosts might actually be real" thing, but then I remembered that the fucking monastery exists. It's a shame because Dimitri's insanity is one place where the writers were able to execute their idea as good as they sounds on paper.

I kinda hated him skipping classes for like half of the chapters because he was mumbling nonsense in the church like that lunatic from Bloodborne. It made sense though.
Btw here’s a build I stole from a commenter when the game came out, I may try it out one day:
PTSD (Post-Time Skip Dimitri) + Killer Lance + Critical Ring + S rank in spears= You win the game.

TBF, Dimitri has an Authority boon or whatever the thing where you level the skill more quickly is called, and he gets both Battalion Wrath and Bat Vantage, so that's basically an extension of what the devs are encouraging you to do with him.

Started playing Thracia 776 for the first time. Just reached Chapter 11, and am playing relatively spoiler free and with no guides. I'm alternating consistently between thinking this game is very well made, and thinking it's the sloggiest and most annoying piece of shit in the series.

tl;dr

Things I like:
-Fatigue
-Mature and grounded story
-Capture
-Graphics/music/portraits are all top notch

Things I hate:
-One (1!) mage so far in the entire fucking game. Who is also easily missable because he comes in a fucking Gaiden chapter
-Despite this, you will fight 1 million armor knights every chapter
-Healing staves missing for some inane reason
-Infinite range Physic staves on enemies
-Ballista. Chapter 10 is one of the worst chapters I've ever played in the series, and I'm sure it's not even the worst in its own game
-1RN feels like shit. Call me a 2RN baby, but the hit rates in this game are incredibly shaky.
-0goldlol

On another note, Leif's Light Brand is probably the most important weapon in the entire series. Half these chapters wouldn't even seem possible without it, especially if you don't have Asbel, and your only way to target RES is either the Light Brand or Nanna's Earth Sword.

Mature and grounded story
The reason I liked Leif because he wasn’t the “chosen one” archetype nonsense. He lost everything and will keep taking Ls the more you progress. Also I think this is the only game in the entire series where it feels like it’s a war against overwhelming force and you got no choice but to retreat or hide constantly. It’s only at the last 3 chapters or so where FINALLY something starts to look up for the poor fella.

Healing staves missing for some inane reason
Disagree, I like this feature. Why? Because you still gain EXP while keeping the staves durability intact. Meaning you can use very expensive staves and if you missed you will gain a free level up.

I will do you one better: they apparently do have fucking wheels, because at one chapter they will show up as reinforcement.

Okay, but 'Soren, always lost in your books' will always be the most memorable line in FE history.
I unironically have like a core memory of The Black Knight about to fight Greil, doing his weird whisper-echo voice, asking, "Do you want to die?" and "Is that...all there is? No challenge? No...resistance?". Even though BK's voice is unbelievably unfitting for his character design. The voice sounds like it should come from someone who is a weird mage or someone completely detached from reality like Izuka or Kishuna or something.

Like, I love The Burger King, he was definitely one of the most memorable FE bad guys, but like, Zelgius in RD had a more fitting voice than The Vanta Black Crusader had in PoR.

Yeah that's pretty much how I feel as well lol. Thracia 776 has some of my favorite gameplay mechanics and moments out of the entire franchise, but at the same time, it also has moments like "That dracoknight miniboss is scary, good thing I put all my units in the back s- and he got a movement star and one-shotted my healer... great!"

Things I like:
-Fatigue
-Mature and grounded story
-Capture

You have no idea how much I would love for a Modern FE game have all of these features back:
-Fatigue is just such an interesting mechanic in general, being forced to swap your A squad with your B squad and have to strategize what units you should bring rather than just overlevelling a few god slayers and stomping the entire game with them. I also love that the stat caps are lower to accomodate such a feature too.

-Capture is also a pretty fun high-risk/high-reward system that allows even the memeist of units like Marty Party to shine.

-I don't have anything extra to say that @Rinyuu is my EX has said already, story is good.

-Even if the GBA games look better sprite-wise, there's just a special charm with Thracia 776's graphics that I also really like. Not much to add besides the fact that I REALLY like that you can just straight up change the RGB value of the menu, I wish more games allowed that tbh.

Yeah, but I will never forgive that one time where Nanna missed her Physic... TWICE in a row, which led to Leif die in a gruesome death. Yes this was a 1/1000 chance, and I will forever still be mad about it.

I really don't want to ruin your blind experience... but for the love of Kaga, if you can, either buy and hold on some door keys (I'd recommend 6) or have a thief who's alive until the end of the game. This is not a pro tip, it's a necessity.

Yeah it's already become clear that the game has no qualms about trying to softlock me after seeing Chapter 4 and 11.

Let's take a moment to remember who is responsible for that Light Brand.
Jugdral's world is definitely my favorite in the series, it's full of stuff like this.

Slighty off-topic but also relevant: I was playing Mewgenics constantly for this past week or so, and yesterday, most of my stray cats I've gotten have been named after Fire Emblem characters:

I'm Ferdinand Von Aegir.png
(and yes, Ferdinand is indeed inbred, just like a true noble)

I'm gonna see if I can ever get another cat with a Fire Emblem name and do a run with them before they die of old age, but I just found it incredibly funny that I got an almost full squad by one day after the other.

It would be an incredibly cursed run too, since Takumi sucks at ranged attacks/bows, Keaton can't tank for crap, and Ferdinand has 0 STR but would be an incredible Mage/Necromancer.

FE:Heroes wished it would be this good.

Between this and Menace, fans of the "niggas on a grid" genre are eating good right now. Just wish we'd get that Fortune's Weave news already.

Tiki my wifely wifey waifu finally gets another alt!. I'm still waiting for Halloween Tiki, and Christmas Tiki. As a side note I'm also still waiting for an Easter Ishtar.

I got Tiki on my second summon. Rigght after the free one: :story:
Yeaaaah I wasn't so lucky, it took me the full 40 to get her. This is the only Game I buy the monthly "pass" for so I thankfully have a lot of Orbs saved up for when they release a character I really like. But for me no other character comes anywhere near close to Tiki.
Still I'm kind of wondering how much farther they are going to go with FEH, I don't know if it's still raking in the dough for them or not, but the story seems like it's getting near the end, even if the "Ragnarok" is stretched out to three or four "Books".

When it has some of the best girls in the series' history
I've never played Heroes, but when I see its donut steel oc characters with their fairy tale and anthro aesthetics I don't really see 'Fire Emblem' as much as 'what if we put the most gaudy parts of Fates' aesthetics into a blender with Genshit?'.

However, it's done a good job with actual FE characters. Even setting aside fanservice designs it's come up with some amazing alts. Pledged Restorer Eirika is, imo, better than her base design. The playerbase choosing the Gatekeeper over Camilla('s tits) will never not be funny too.
