Ok, well, if it's about just having fun and playing how I actually want to, like how Kaga actually, literally said in the one interview they all quote, then I think I'll just do it while playing normally, resetting at my own discretion, and using whichever shitters I want instead of pretending a 40-80 hour long Fire Emblem campaign is a fucking roguelike

[...]

I'll shit on Mangs and his butt buddies until I die of dehydration.

I will defend Mangs in a minor aspect (because that's the only video that I watched about the subject). but I never seen his take as "Play Fire Emblem as Kaga intended" as more as "Don't be overly autistic about being optimal in a single-player game", I believe he also talked about how you don't need to use only the best units in the game, or how you shouldn't spend hours analyzing which units deserve the stat-boost item, same thing is if an unit dies to an unlucky crit, and you're 2 hours in chapter, just move on. He even ended the video with something like "Just play the game how you want to play, if the internet says that X unit is D tier and Y unit is S tier, who cares?", which goes well going against in how the modern FE community preaches about muh pitfalls, bases > growths and "armors bad horses good".

However, yeah, their arguments in "just get the best ending in the next playthrough" in a 40-80 hour campaign in FE is absolutely ridiculous. Anyone that plays FE as a roguelike are probably too far gone to be redeemed.

Sorry for double posting, but I needed a place to cry for a bit. I was playing FE7x (a fangame that is a prequel to FE7) and I got softlocked at the very last chapter of the demo, apparently one of the droppable door keys... aren't droppable, so I was stuck there on the outside, while the boss was taunting me. It was Thracia all over again, remember to always bring a Thief, kids. (:_(

Oh well, besides this event, I've enjoyed my experience so far with FE7x. Too bad that they will never finish developing the game ever, but what they already made has been pretty good.

On a bright side, look at my Eiry!

Captura de tela 2024-07-04 040250.png

Apparently she was supposed to be a low def/high magic shaman (which are called Sorcerers in this game), but the RNG Deities laughed at that fact and made her an absolute tank. She has more def than all of my other units, and takes an axe to the face like no problem, which I love it!

When I first played FE7x and started the level Uther gets drunk and eats a huge debuff while defending a little village, I knew I was in for a good game.

Been a while since I've touched it - Eiry is good. Raising Marcus, Harken, and Isadora is totally worth it, and an experience if you've played from FE 6/7. They're so smol!!!

Wow, I didnt know anyone still made hacks about the Elibe games.
This looks very neat, where can you even download this?

It certainly looks better than the FE7 sequel hack.

Here, you can download it here:

It does require you to install some other stuff like .NET framework and XNA Framework if you don't have them, but those things also come in with the zip file it gives you, so nothing to worry about it.

And also, reminder again that it's a demo, while 99% of the gameplay is finished, you won't get that far unlike the other FE games.

Pretty cuul game in general, and like previous post said, if you enjoyed FE6 and specially FE7, you'll love this one!

oh fuck this looks fucking cool as fuck hell yeah let's-

oh.......
also i hate to 'erm ackschually' you but in most romhacks green growths = good and red = bad, unless 7x just does the opposite. it might, being in a different engine. idk

That's another thing Andaron Saga has going over it's contemporaries, is that the thing is fuckin done. It's so done that there's no room left in the rom to make it any more done. A lot of rom hacks just kind of hit the point of done 'enough' and leave it at that, maybe drop a .txt of support convos later down the line. I really hope alternative engines for making these kinds of games start getting more polished down the line; what creators have been able to finagle out of 32 MB bootlegs is nothing short of black magick, but the process seems like a major pain in the fucking ass that really bottlenecks development, and it's only going to get worse as people want to do more creative, larger-scale projects. A lot of the creative aspects are getting easier already if you let AI do the legwork, which, naturally, FEU bans you for.

I'll throw Mangs another bone and say he's right on the money about FEU being absolute aids. If your game plops Stealiqua from the repo onto my face within the first five minutes (Bells of Byelen, Blade and Claw, probably more) that's a drop.

How did Blazer figure out how to put voice acting in FE7 during the Bush Administration? And why does nobody else even try?

Well I heard they were gonna hit their final phase soon™, but they have been developing this game for like what... 10 years? It would be absolute copium of me to think it's getting finished

That's why I respect Order of the Crimson Arm and The Last Promise, because at least they're finished products...

But I can't really be too mad for people not finishing their stuff due to the nature of it being a profitless game, still sucks tho.

I gonna hit with another "erm ackschually" because 7x isn't a romhack, it's actually an entire fangame without needing an emulator. And has a very interesting growth system: Basically your units start with yellow stats, and as long as they level, their stats gets more or less colored, green = above average stats, red = below average stats, so you can kinda see which units got severly stat screwed or not (in this case, Eiry got a little less than average HP and a even lesser average Mag, and more than average everything else, specially Def)

I'd wager it has to do with the filesize limits and the question of merit. GBA ROMS aren't particularly good at having wholly new things added to them, and any voice work that is put in will inevitably get bitcrushed during insertion, so almost any voice acting that gets inserted is liable to sound absolutely silly, especially since most modders aren't professional voice actors.

Counterpoint: "This divine lightning shall pierce the skies" goes hard as fuck.

I will not say that romhacks having the ambition to be new original entries for a game is a bad thing, but I really did enjoy the energy of older hacks being a blatant mashup of personal interests. That Mega Man in the Mushroom Kingdom type energy. Just put whatever you think is cool into the game and add One Piece characters, all is fair in romhacking.

Might be fun to contribute to a 5 chapter shitpost with all the cool shit I like that nobody else cares about.
Why are Maya Tokizaki and Yusuke Yurameshi capturing a castle held by the Wizard Guy from Swat Cats? Answer: Shut up, and eat my dick.

Finally, a bandit for my romhack that doesn't look like complete shit on purpose.

Yeah, I wish FE7x was done, but I've forgotten and rediscovered it multiple times. It's probably not going to finish, ever. It has a lot of cool things, though, like the hold the line mission with the bright line you can't let them cross. The slog final battle going up a really long battlefield was also lit.

I would take a rom hack with a Yu Yu Hakusho reference. I think there was one with Tien from DBZ at least.

Well, tacthack is a huge asterisk (and i guess TLP too if you count the final postgame level that was never finished) since although the game is finished, it has a shit ton of bugs, graphical errors and places where you get the vanilla fe7 script instead. Said lack of polish makes me prefer its sister hack, Dark Lord and the Maiden of Light way more

With how much of the fan community are drama queens, theater kids, and narcissists, you'd think they'd be overjoyed, ironically or otherwise, to inject some cringy shitty gba-compressed voice acting. That's probably the strongest indicator that it's a hardware limitation. Still, it's interesting to think about how a teenager from over a decade ago still did it best, at least from what I've seen. The only other example that jumps out at me is some FE8 redux prettification project whose name I don't remember that gave Lyon an evil laugh to accompany a CG. Well, and Before Fates, which...exists. The advantage of GBA compression is that it masks shitty microphones as well as the Autistic Internet User accent. Probably less so the frankenstein mickey mouse troon voice, but I don't really believe shame is a barrier for that genre of person.

Crusty ass GBA voice clips are raw as fuck if done right. Chain of Memories is full of them.

Oh in fe 7x it shows you how blessed/screwed you are.

Like if it's red you are under the average for that unit and if it's green it's above average.

Sorry if this has been brought up countless times but I think a FE6+7 would really kick ass.

FE7 is the prologue, so chronologically this would make the most sense to be first.

( I don’t know if they would either include, exclude, or beef up Lyn’s story in the beginning. Maybe if it introduced the world of Elibe a bit more, but it’s kind of limited when it’s just the border of Sacae and some of Lycia. )

Either way, the characters in FE7 would carry over to FE6. This satisfies the whole “second generation” theme throughout Fire Emblem. And 20 years is a reasonable gap, unlike the 10 years of FE4 or the “deep realms” gap in Fates.

And FE7 is a really good starter. A very small group go against a threat that isn’t too hard to believe: a mad necromancer with a (wounded) dragon as the final boss. Plus there is a ton of time for character development throughout. Eliwood and Hector’s bromance, as well as Eliwood and Ninian. Maybe Lyn can be the main character like in the beta? And of course the side characters can have their little tristes as well and make babies.

Then the main cast all either go their separate ways or have kids and they all come back when Bern finally invades in FE6. This would create great replay value because it would mean every choice in the first half will be very important in the second half.

Elibe is pretty ripe for story telling I must say. For example the lands in FE13 aren’t very well defined. Just that the north is cold. Wow.

And with the battle against Bern, hopefully it is less exaggerated lol. A 12 year old boy leading a counter-offensive against a massive force? I don’t think so. Basically the entire story of FE6 could use a huge overhaul since it was just a repeat of FE1 just with different hair colors.
