Speaking of games with the abbreviation TH, I finished one of the routes in Three Hopes.

It wasn't bad. I actually liked most of what was there, even. The exclusions are really strange, though. Byleth didn't end up playing that much of a part and the brief detour to dubstep snake people backstory before the game goes "Anyways," and the ends on a cliffhanger was an... Interesting creative choice. Dimitri was a much less interesting character when he wasn't a hulking ragebeast.

Shez was a fun character, and Byleth is a much better character when she isn't completely mute, go figure.

For a spinoff that was made to distract people between houses and engage it wasn't bad by any means, but it's a shame they didn't go a little farther with it.
When I tried to play Three Hopes I couldn't make it very far. I thought the story was kind of interesting but I could not get into the gameplay at all. It's kind of annoying because I really wanted to see the story parts.

I haven't really tried any of the new Ninty Warriors games, but the grind autism will never hit as hard as with OG Hyrule Warriors. FE Warriors just hasn't hit enough of that crossover appeal and broadly using the series to pull characters from.
They did such a great job with HW's roster and all the creativity that went into movesets like Zant's, I still can't get over how terrible FEW's roster was and on top with that its filled to the brim with duplicates of movesets.
For fucks sake, they put DLC locked characters in regular story cutscenes and had them ultimately be clones too.

I've been playing Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn for the first time and I'm quite liking it. However the lack of supports is really weird and makes the characters feel like a bunch of nobodies compared to how they were in Path of Radiance. It's strange that they cut a feature out of the game that is in almost every other game in the series. I get it might've been hard to pull off with the multiple armies you control but they still should've put something in it's place.

Yeah. They really cut down the supports a lot due to having 3 different armies to deal with throughout the game. And 4 Parts with their own chapters to play.

The Dawn Brigade are still Jobbers outside of Sothe and Nolan.

I know Edward was relevant in the any% route for a while. But, speedrunning got gay, so I don't know if the route has changed.

I'm surprised that people are actually willing to use Edward. I'm sure he's fine once you level him up but god he's so weak when you first get him it's almost impossible to keep him alive. I ended up just shoving him in the back and he hardly did anything for me.

He is even worse in the Japanese Version of the game. In fact, the Japanese version of RD is just worse overall. The Western Release QoL improvements like not needing Master Crowns, giving much needed Base Stat Boosts to the Dawn Brigade, and 3 new weapons for The Dawn Brigade really helps them from being total garbage.

Now the Maniac Mode where Weapon Triangle and Terrain Bonuses are not a thing is just BS.

Like why? That makes most the Dawn Brigade members suck even worse and Terrain Bonuses are essential to mitigate damage and find and use choke points.

The problem with most of these FE fanservice games is it's very obvious the people behind these games under no circumstances want anyone pre-awakening showing up, only adding the bare minimum. Persona FE edition for example has Marth, Ishida, and Tiki, and then the rest is Awakening douchebags, while FE Warriors only adds Lyn because of polls from their mobile game telling them how popular she is.

Anyways Three Hopes wasn't anything special. It's better than some of the early switch games from koei where the frame rates were so bad some games performed worse than the vita, but it's nothing special. I'd recommend One Piece Pirate Warriors 4 or Hyrule Warriors over it, or hell, the original FE warriors scratches the autism itch better than this.

where the frame rates were so bad some games performed worse than the vita,
Yeah, speaking of Three Hopes, the game really can barely handle spamming the dark knight's fire pillar combo. There's probably some more stuff out there, but that's pretty much the biggest offender, in my experience.

But while we're waiting for the grand announcement for the next FE title, Unicorn Overlord is trying to mimic the modern FE games for one reason or another.

Outside of the marriage subplot, the support convos, and the occasional teambuilding meal; it's kind of original in it's own way. But I doubt if it'll be particularly hard, though

Really,Unicorn Overlord plays closer to Ogre Battle with a more RTS-sorta gameplay added with the focus on party formations.

They don't forget to pander to FE1 though - it's more that they pretend 3-10 don't exist.

I had a great time with Radiant dawn but boy did the final boss kick my ass. I spent so much time autistically building up my units only for 80% of them to drop dead in the last chapter. I forgot to put a healer in my final group and all my staves were stuck on the other healers so I had to make do with Micaiah carrying a single Mend rod.

I'll probably end up doing another playthrough for the second playthrough story differences, and this time I'll train up the Dawn Brigade so they aren't total ass.

I dunno why they made the Dawn Brigade total jobbers.
Like they have a playable chapter in Chapter 3 if ai recall.

If I had to guess, I'd say it was some sort of gameplay/story thing. To make you feel like the Dawn Brigade is a really ragtag group fighting an enemy they are tragically underprepared to do battle with, but gain more powerful allies along the way to bolster their forces and stand a chance. Except it's not *just* the Dawn Brigade proper that stink in Micaiah's chapter--at least half the units that join are a complete joke like Fiona or Meg or are never around like Tauroneo or Tormod. Nailah, her husband and Sothe are hard-carrying these losers.

The Dawn Brigade is struggling along despite the fact that Daein's personal terminator, the Black Knight occasionally shows up to turn their enemies into a fine red mist.

Also, Fiona is almost comically awful when you consider her lineage. She's the daughter of Lavenga one of the Four Great Riders. The Riders have had members like Gawain/Greil, Bryce, Tauroneo, Petrine, Bertram, and the Black fucking Knight, and you meet the daughter of one of the members that didn't appear in PoR, and who is she? Some absolute waste of a cavalier, who I don't even remember talking after her introduction chapter.

To quote the wiki about how great this daughter of a legendary warrior is, "However, despite her unrivaled potential, she arrives at a low level with absolutely pitiful base stats and extremely limited availability." Fucking Renning is better, and he just gets randomly tossed into your party near the endgame to wrap up the whole, "Who the fuck is Bertram?" thing from Path of Radiance.

If they really wanted to do something crazy with her, why not make her an anti-Ike? She was the child of one of Daein's original riders, just like Ike, but you can show how their upbringings changed them. Ike is effectively stateless but winds up helping Elincia because its the right thing to do, and his whole shtick is about the strength of character and ability is more important than any lordly title. You could have Fiona be a hardcore nationalist, who unlike Ike, grew up knowing exactly who her father was, and just what kind of status that should afford her. And just like Ike she could be a character who has massive combat potential because they were both trained by two of Daein's best warriors from childhood. You could go in a million different directions with her, and at best she's a cardboard cut out of a filler unit.

I loved PoR, in large part because it eschewed the franchise standard, have a war that somehow escalates to you killing Satan, but for me while there was plenty of fun stuff in it, RD drops the ball. Especially since stuff like the Blood Pacts are such a writing cop out, letting characters do horrible stuff, that we can't judge them for because they didn't actually make any of their own choices. Also, I frankly have a hard time replaying it, because than I have to replay the Dawn Brigade chapters, which just give me a migraine.

The Blood Pact was so fucking stupid and unnecessary that they Gatekept the 3rd Option to New Game+ to keep Pelleas alive. Granted Dark Magic SUCKS in Tellius.
