I mean people complained characters in Awakening did not have feet
I thought it was because they figured that the 3DS was too weak to render/animate them?

Umm, why would you even say something like this, in public?
It's an attempt to join someone's Discord.

And the features in Engage seem like they're focusing too much on the fluff content, and may compromise the main gameplay.
What are you going on about? The difficulty of this game has already been snapped in half with the rings and the break mechanic.

@Viscious Seviper That Nemesis fight was the only thing I liked about the Golden Deer route (that and Crimson Flower are tied for the shittiest out of the four). Report back when you get to it, if you haven’t already. I beat it on a normal(?) difficulty. Can’t imagine trying to beat it on hard or maddening.

Yeah, I had to mute my goddamn switch each time I hear that bitch talk.

Oh and for Anna, too. If they couldn’t bother on giving her fucking supports in Three Houses, what was the point of having her in as a character?

Well, damn. (:_(

I haven't gotten to the Nemesis yet. I can't help but think of William the Just's conquest of Nosgoth instead of generic anime barbarian with that villain name. Got as far as Guard duty at the spare Chapel and learning you can just strap one other character to Byleth's chest as a human shield and level them that way. Would have been very helpful to explain the adjutant/limited rescue system early on, which they don't. Now most of the team is around level 20 or higher.

Bernadetta's voice actress is even more autistic and loud when actually talking during her livestreams. She has a funny loud forced giggle after every sentence when she isn't speaking autistically loud at random points mid sentence and I cannot help but laugh at it. Though that's probably just part of the current character she plays on her channel. Also learned that there are three houses popup parade figures from one of her streams.

Anna has supports in 3H? I thought I saw the CBA at the bottom of the list during my current playthrough but she seems like a completely different character and just looks weird in 3H. I liked the minimal appearance she had in Sacred Stones. She wasn't half as intrusive as she became in later entries shilling DLC that in total costs more than the base game and is the same bad practice as the Sims DLC's. Though they seem to have abandoned extensive post launch support outside of a few new maps ever since Echoes.

Keep your expectations grounded… though I should say that for Edelgard’s route, if you ever do it.

That says a lot about the adjutant system if they don’t bother to explain it. I didn’t even know how it worked until I picked up Three Hopes and I was like “wait, you can pick who you want to piggy back of?”. On my recent play through, I’ve just been using it as a means to get my “weaker” (aka units I either didn’t give a shit about or focused on wisely) to level up.

It took a fucking 3DS game to make me figure out how rescue worked lol and I’ve just now started utilizing it in three houses (sparingly and if Flayn is out of harm’s way).

Nintendo sure knows how to pick ‘em.

No, she doesn’t. She’s only recruitable if you payed for DLC (which is an extra 25 dollars of a lackluster side story and a bunch of nothing content).

I wished she did, just so they can justify shoehorning her in.

Her design is weird even for a newcomer for the series like me.

Keep in mind the adjutant system can also be a nifty get out of jail free card if you assign an armored/brawler type unit to one of your squishies with good support level (make sure the adjutant displays a blue little shiels icon). It saved some of my best yet weak mages many times in Maddening just enough to go in for a kill where Vantage faggotry would have nuked them.

Maddening and Hard Nemesis fight is doable but it requires an autistic amount of effort to do so if you want to have fun while doing it try after multiple New Game plus runs.

Or hyper invest into a swordmaster Lysithea and Warp/Rescue units:

Im trying my best to have fun with it by pretending everyone is trying see how much they can weird out Byleth in this creepy cult he got abducted into. Rhea has a subtle palpatine vibe to her and palpatine also probably appeared just as angelic to his subjects using his sorcery/force powers to change people's perceptions of him. Bernadetta is the most forthcoming of all of the supports. So I can respect that. Just wish she had a voice that actually fit the character similar to the dub. She looks like she has a depressed ,lower pitched, heather mason voice instead of whatever that weaponized autism was that they decided to go with.

From what I can gather in the story, right now it seems like the cult is just sending out soldiers to arbitrarily kill anyone who got fed up with their religion. Not breaking any laws or anything. While mercenaries are hired on both sides under the guise of bandits to do the dirty work of razing villages to the ground and so on. I mean they did execute those western church officials that somehow knew nothing about the attack on the rebirth rite crypt led by the fabled Death Knight. Then the "Flame Emperor" just seems like a magic edgelord and not really a villain. Its completely understandable to want to see Fodlan free of the Church. They even send out a professor and his students to go out and kill the mercs on both sides. I mean fanatical religions and religious crusades against the heretics have always gone well right?

Though unlike Echoes, there is an easily accessible market and its not like the player's party is forced to use their bare hands like Alm and his friends were for several acts. Magic seems more viable than in even the 3DS titles where its a 80/20 chance your unit is going to die even if they are 2 or more squares away and they are a level 20 promoted class. Pegasus/Falcon knights were also free kills most of the time even in Echoes against flying undead units. The thing they are specifically designed to counter. So Im not even going to humor that class in 3H. But its still nice that you can pick a few different classes for everyone. One of the changes I really appreciate as they have different armor for most characters depending on the body type.

Say no more! Vantage has been kicking my ass so bad in my recent play through I just said fuck it and dropped the difficulty level like a bitch.

What the fuck?

Aw shit. I’ve been looking at this the wrong way this entire time.

Consider Rally skills, armored units and assigning Crest items with corresponding relics to the units you're building for the front lines as well. Usually the relics can grant a pavise/aegis effect to the unit with the matching crest.

Maddening is just a garbage mode.

It forces you to play in really restrictive and degenerate ways.
Still better than Awakening lunatic but it's a horrible mode.

There's no reason to play it beside the piss colored title screen.

Ah, I didn’t know that now. I just thought the relics just gave a character a desired ability or enabled them to use Crest locked weapons for the hell of it.

I gave Caspar in this playthrough Anna’s crest of Ernest. Helped a lot with the occasionally stopping counter attacks (not to mention all of a sudden when I dropped the difficulty from hard to normal he decided to suddenly want to work again. Funny how that works).

Also helped Bernie when I gave her Dimitri’s Crest… only under certain conditions of course.

But all of that babbling to ask a question I had in my mind: so how do you make an unusual build that a character isn’t naturally inclined to, in under a set amount of time? I’ve been trying and failing to get units like Linhardt and Hubert to get in those master knight classes (not to say they aren’t solid mage or bishop units. Just that I want to try something different).

Things like making a mage into a sword master sounds very tempting.

She should have just stay at a secret shopkeeper or adviser then.Making her playable as a DLC character that has a little to nothing to do with main story always feel kind of awkward to me.Like they dont even bother giving her proper backstory or explain why there are so many of her sis who look the same and also called Anna in fe13.
Again, that's like asking for Pikachu to have a backstory. it's an accessory character that never mattered and is only there to have a mascot.

"Waifu" is one of those words that make me physically nauseous when I hear it or see it written on anything. It's such a retard meme now that it's not even funny.

Unfortunately it takes a few New game plus runs to finally make an out of the box unit that isn't worthless gimmick garbage. It also takes autism in stat boost item management, extracurriculars and weekend activities to achieve but eventually you can make something that sticks.

Imo have fun doing all the routes in normal first so you can farm up the Renown in New Game Plus and easily try out the outside the box build you may have in mind, then do your favorite route in Hard mode so you get the feel. Maddening is just shit like others already said but if you want to try it do your fave route again. Once you've gotten plenty of stuff you can buy with renown in Maddening go for the wacky build you have in mind.

Here's the last one I did earlier this year that got me through Maddening with a couple others like Gremory Hilda, War cleric Annette and Assassin Caspar.

Also play online, get those Viskams fuck what purists say, it makes the Maddening mode actually playable.

Its also possible to infinitely grind your units XP as long as the battle doesn't have a sword icon in the tab. yet another thing the game does not tell you and I assumed they all cost 1 time unit each and avoided them up until now. Now all of my units are around level 30 and ready for the defense of the cathedral and the game is playable now that I dont have to solely rely on byleth. Why didnt they just call it Byleth: the game?

I had a nice long rant on how much I hate the UI in Three Houses and wish for the UI designers to be hung drawn and quartered so I will sum it up:

1. Removal of previous entries' QOL features.
(This game doesnt save your last used units so you have to manually re-pick all of them every map. Also autofills your lowest leveled units first and will sometimes sneak them into your roster when starting the level, which will often result in extremely unfair deaths that were otherwise preventable or wasting your time restarting the level to unselect them again.)

2. Inversion of some menu widgets.
(Instead of "use item" being at the top of the Item commands, its at the bottom, and cancel is at the top. Cannot spam A to quickly equip 8-10 characters and wastes a lot of time trying to just give a single unit a fucking javelin to where you need to just get rid of all the items in the inventory of the unit and start over.)

3.Automatically selects weakest weapon and fights you when trying to use the weapon you chose.
(For marianne's paralogue, it is a requirement to use a relic weapon to damage the boss. Instead of Byleth attacking with the upgraded creator's sword like I chose to have him equip, he uses a Levin sword instead and nearly gets himself killed for no reason. The X/Y tab also fights you by cycling through just about every fucking attack in the game except the weapon you want them to use and will often just randomly start the attack instead.)

4. Redundancies and Oversights.
(Do we really need 3 different ways to get into the convoy from the battle preparation widget? even then most of the time the convoy wont even appear when selecting the trade option in the inventory tab. you have to select the convoy "unit" first. Also a pain in the ass to have to go over to the tiny marketplace widget and fumble around like I'm trying to get to the tie interceptor hidden behind the millennium falcon in the hangar select from Rogue Squadron when going to the weapon repair menu. )

5. Constantly fighting the player.
(Turns simple tasks like giving a killer lance to a unit into a herculean feat. Half of the time it will just cancel the transfer and you have to go all the way back down the list to attempt to give that equipment to a unit again. Its even worse with classes that can move after attacking where its like the game cannot comprehend you dont want them to move out of formation after an attack.)

6. Hiding UI elements.
(depending on the map, its more noticeable on heavily wooded maps where you cannot see the health bar of both your own and enemy units. Like how I complained about not being able to see the first monster encounter boss's regeneration widget. It can also happen when units are on a tree tile on a darker map or obscured by 50 monsters/ surrounded by other units in general with a ridiculous amount of particle FX lagging the game to a crawl on Marianne's paralogue. Leads to some unfair unit deaths.)

I got to the Nemesis part of the Golden Deer route...
Before that it turns into Infinity blade 3 for a moment at Shambala with the same kind of dark/lightblue lights and square sci fi architecture from that game. Same circuit patterns and all. I also couldn't stop Laughing at the ODIN from COD: Ghosts being in this game but in weeb anime magic form. They even have a national logo on the side of the rods they use to orbital bombard everything. Was set for gold for the rest of the game at around 250K after I had gotten all of my teammates except Igniz to level 30+ before the timeskip.

Was also anticlimactic to have chapters 17-21 be all "kill commander" objectives because byleth just pimp slaps them all with a Javelin+ in one turn and turns an otherwise important story moment into a comedy bit. Like when he smacked some sense into Edelgard in 1 turn and she pulled out the theatrics.

Had to have Byleth and Claude solo or duo these Chapters so no one would get bodied or just suddenly drop dead from full HP and all of the enemies nowhere near them, even as master classes standing in spawn at a higher level than the enemies on the map. Promoted a few characters into Bow knights and they just go around sniping everything and moving back into formation. The most pain in the ass part was waiting months in game to get some of their Riding skills up to at least B rank otherwise the other S+ skills for lance and bow don't matter. Shit tier game design. I'd rather have class promotion be exclusively level specific like in Shadows of Valentia. Unit promotion here is a significantly overcomplicated downgrade from the 3DS games. Though "anna's secret thingy" leaves plenty of room for interpretation and I bought everything she had and 40+ master seals for a presumable NG+ blue lions route that I wasted most of trying to promote Shamir and Cyril to bow knights. Because S++ in everything else and a B rank for riding just isn't good enough for this game.

The developers surely gave up around chapter 21 of this route when they started adding proto-gundams that you could completely skip and go right to the boss room. Just held bow safety lectures for the team or skipped the time in between fights for chapter 16 onward. It made no sense to capture the capital then wait an entire in game month before attempting to apprehend the masterminds behind the war who would have clearly escaped Fodlan by then.

I finished Three houses' golden deer route. Its funny that the cutscene was accurate for once. I actually did Duo the nemesis with Byleth bodying all of the generals and Claude running around trying to stay alive with the 9 elixirs in his inventory. The map was fairly uneventful since Byleth was around level 55 at that point and nothing could scratch him. On normal, The Nemesis was about as tough as the Demon king of Sacred stones on hard. Was more of a boss fight than Edelgard was and hopefully the Blue Lions route will be better than Prince Caspian fucking off out of narnia making the throne your problem now in the post-war biography section.

Had chosen ??? or sothis as that popped up at the ring section at Jeralt's grave and felt like a secret ending. Had no idea you had to actually try to get that ending. I just annoyed the hell out of her from the very beginning. Plus it would be kind of awkward schizo shit to chose Marianne like I had intended if someone caught Byleth essentially talking to himself and she did save Byleth's life with anime magic. Her "together foreeevveerrr" speech about being soul-bound for all eternity was also creepy. Idk if her appearing on the throne on the main menu just means you cleared the game or got the Sothis ending.

*stops time and introduces the mila's turnwheel mechainic of the game that is actually relevant to the plot*
Sothis: "Oh you're about to die because of an incoming axe strike. what do you do?"
Me: "I dunno, I guess I die, time to accept it. GG. Nothing I could do."
Sothis: *has a funny autistic bitchfit and forces me to rewind time anyway.*

But then I did go back and choose Marianne and realized that the commanders of Nemesis have actual names that all correspond to the houses of Fodlan. Nice touch. Will do NG+ going the blue lion route.

So far I'm liking NG+ on the Blue Lions route. Its not as much of a rug pull as I expected it to be like the 3DS games were. You can just spend renown to get back the units you wanted so its not like they're gone forever and can be used on any route.
