See, I agree on principle, but I still think the implication here is dumb because I don't even waifu Tharja that hard. I just happen to like her and it's a very "retard who didn't actually bother to pay attention to the story" take to go "she sucks because abusive parent".

Then again, a lot of people have a lot of retarded takes when it comes to Awakening. Not that I think it's a masterpiece of a game nor is it even what I would call my "favorite" game in the franchise.
Honestly, you can just have the same argument with most of the cast and still wind up with people who are pissed at you.

You can actually call Hilda an lazy slut or Rhea/Edelgard an cuck queen and see just how angry people will get

I think Awakening does a lot of things legitimately wrong. But, is overall a pretty decent game. I think it just gets a lot of hate because it brought a lot of frustrating people into the fanbase.

Sacred stones is a lot more fun than I remembered. Got as far as Chapter 7 on Hard.

Universally Chapter 5 or the chapter where you recruit Joshua has to be the worst map I've ever played in a FE game. Doesn't matter what difficulty you play on, its too easy to get ganked or lose someone halfway through the map and its very RNG heavy. Sometimes your units hit all crits and dodge perfectly and other turns you lose franz on the first turn as a soft tank for the far left doorway. Taking it slower and inching up once I got small groups of 3-4 made it eventually possible to clear out enough of them for natasha to recruit joshua safely and just let seth exclusively deal with the bosses for every chapter.

For Chapter 5.X with Ephraim I just took all of Orson's silver weapons and distributed them to his loyal companions.

Also got through chapter 6 almost perfectly on the first try using the tank wall strategy I used when I went through Echoes on hard, however I stupidly sent out vanessa to attempt a helicopter rescue. She got bodied by a heavy knight and a lance soldier with javelins. Seth somehow stumbled into the boss immediately after and bodied him in retaliation, then I had to restart the chapter to get her back. Since I do remember the demon spam is rediculous later on and the falcon knights are good for a soft anti-undead flier screen. The second time I just had Seth bumrush the boss and clear the chapter in 4-5 turns. The game was so impressed that it gave me an orions bolt to upgrade neimi into in archer or bow knight eventually since none of the civilians died.

I feel like I'm the only person who thinks Sacred Stones is like the most 'mid' game in the entire franchise. Everytime I go to replay it I always get bored after Chapter 17 or so and it takes me forever to find the energy to finish it. I don't know if it's the game play or story or maps or what, but that game does nothing for me. It's not even a bad game or worst of Fire Emblem. It just doesn't stand out in any way to me.

Nah, I can definitely see that. Like in a game with two protagonists, the only characters that stand out are the Cav that turns everything into mulch; and maybe Leon, the kid that worships satan in the basement.

"Nah, bro. Erika and Ephraim's relationship is one of the best in gaming. The whole cast is a marble of character writting and they are so wholesome it's no wonder there is a huge fanbase for them to this very day"

- Ghast "Doofenshmirtz" Station.

Did he actually say that? It is the exact kind of dipshit take I'd expect from Ghast.

I really liked Joshua to be completely honest but I also like practically every Myrmidon in the series and the class line in general so I have some bias there.

Chapter 11 sucked. After trying a few strategies I just Used a handful of near invulnerable units and promoted my level 15 Gilliam to a General. About half of his stats are capped out at 20 and oddly it was seth that was the weakest link on the team.

Somehow equipping duessel, seth, gilliam, and ephraim with throwing axes and javelins negated the need for any real anti air and atfter a quick trade to give duessel blue gatorate and Ross’s hatchet, he was able to singlehanded finish off all the eyeballs as half the javelins and all the theowing axes were used up in the process and gave them 3-5 levels each besides Ephraim being level 20 already.

I think it's also the branching promotions thing. There's a really bad in-balance where there's this illusion of choice. Clerics can either get anima magic, or light magic and effective damage against monsters, which populate all the late game maps. Archers can either be a slightly better archer with a skill that sometimes guarantees a hit (yay...) or get a mount and an extra weapon, improving their range and flexibility as units. I don't think they really nailed the branching promotions until Awakening/Fates. Sure, not every class in that game was useful, but the skill system at least meant that it could be worth it for certain units go to through certain classes to put together a skill set. Sully might be better as a Paladin, but Great Knight gets generally better skills and makes for a better stat-backpack if that's all you want her around for. There's an actual strategy behind what class to make your units, whereas almost all of the promotions in SS are no-brainers. What's the point in being able to make Gerik a Ranger or a Hero if almost everyone is just gonna make him a Hero anyways for the hand-axes and better stats?

Sacred stones is in that weird spot for me where i like it but i also find it kind of bland. I think my biggest gripe with the game is how the Eirika/Ephraim split is implemented. I feel if it was more like Gaiden/echoes or tear ring saga where you play as both lords at the same time it would have been more fun, letting you use most of your roster so when the reunion happens you can choose between the best performers in each army, letting you recruit post route split characters into a route or another depending on who beats what map first or what character did you brought in an specific army. And I wasn't the only one who thought this since there's actually a romhack that pulls it off (gonna link it here in case anyone is curious about it) kinda well, went by more direct approach having your units automatically go with a lord and having the post split units always appear in the same route, which is a fine solution, to I wouldn't recommend since it also had the retarded idea of having enemy dancers, most of them in maps with thiefs, enemies with status staves, or even siege weapons, making it a pain to plan around since the dancer enemy AI can be unpredictable at times.
TL;DR: Sacred Stones would be better if you could play as both lords at the same time instead of having to replay the same 2/3rds at the early game and end game if you wanna see the unique mid game of the route you didn't pick.
EDIT: fixed the link, oops.

Yeah that's a fair account of it.
The game is unbalanced. The characters are one note and the support are hit and miss. The whole kid and romance stuff works sometimes and other times it falls flat hard. The pair up mechanic is unbalanced.
It's easy to point out the negative but it kinda work

The game can be fun and it feel good to see your team become incredibly strong and the game has set up mechanics that have been expanded upon in later games.

It mostly depends on playstyle. Chapter 5 is kinda chill and the not that much time pressure if you don't rush it.
Tbf most chapters don't have time pressure in fe8.

I tend to struggle way more with chapter 6 because my team tends to get gangbanged in the fog.

Also yes you got the bolt for saving the villagers from the spiders (in that case finishing the chapter before they die).

I see you use Seth a lot, which is valid don't worry about it. However leveling up other units evenly makes you engage in the game in a more interresting way.
Oh and yeah the end game has huge maps with a disgusting amount of monsters.(not on last promise's level tho hahah)

Yeah in later posts I did level up most characters to level 12+ and got up to chapter 12. Ephraim is already at level 20 and a solid unit on his own.

Only restarted because the Chapter boss is left at 6 hp and I didnt bring enough units to kill it in 1 turn before Marisa decides to get killed by attacking one of my great knights.

Staying out of her movement range and baiting the other enemy units like I did when recruiting Joshua early on helps. Neimi is also solid but its really easy to lose her to anything with a javelin. But she also gets an insane 50xp or more per kill.

Yeah, the route split doesn't really add anything to SS. It only really changes a couple lines of dialogue here and there, recruitment order, and a handful of different maps around the middle of the game, but since the game is pretty short (Only little over twenty, where as most other FE games have closer to twenty five or so total chapters) most of the game feels the same no matter who you choose after chapter 8.

And no matter what you wind up fighting the guy who wants to have a three way with Eirika and Ephraim.

EDIT: Words.

I actually wanted to link this:
It's basically FE8 just some events are forced into some routes (Like Cormag always showing up in Ephraim's route so he won't have dialogue about avenging his brother when fighting Valter since that's Eirika route only)
