I'm talking story Ignatz, not gameplay Ignatz.
My bad. Well I guess you could put me in the autism defense task force category then.

She's fucking up the status quo, sure, but the continent is pretty fucked already and even in the routes where she's not the hero her actions are the kick in the pants to getting over a millennium if fuckery dealt with and sweeping reformations going.
Alright, you got me with that one.

It’s especially silly when the most well-adjusted goody two shoes characters aren’t popular. Every popular character has red flags. Some just get criticized more because there’s a large enough group willing to be very sensitive.

For example, I would say being suicidally depressed is a red flag Marianne. But I know it’s not presented as a good thing. It’s to give her character tension. Most people can see that.

But sometimes they elect not to. Or think the game is saying something it isn’t and secretly agrees with them (or with something they despise).

When you look at their organic behavior, people agree that flaws are necessary. When you look at what they type on forums they suddenly change their minds (and start lying).
I remember talking about someone about this sort of thing, and the conclusion I recall us coming to was simply this: Most people want flaws, but only surface level flaws that don't really do anything really if you think about it within the overarching plot.

Using your example: Marianne is suicidal yes, but she for the most part never goes with it (at most you got a handful of endings I think where she imply dies) and we all know she pretty much never will within the main plot. She's safe, you know she's safe, I know she's safe, and if somehow she were to just eat a metaphorical bullet she wouldn't really impact the plot negatively beyond not existing anymore as a unit.

Edelgard isn't that, crazy mode (mainly CF) Rhea isn't that, or Boar Dimitri isn't that either. They're very flawed people who do horrible and wrong things some with varying degrees of justification and level of impact. They actually impact the plot, things actually happen because they're flawed. So now everyone's in a tizzy and they're badly written because of it, now those writers have gone too far because their flaws impact the plot negatively.

Characters with flaws need to be surface level crap or be support only to not kick up arguments on the internet, the moment your character's flaws actually cause a problem in the plot then people will hate that character. Unless it is the obvious RL politic no-nos like racism and what not, then we got Ingrid.

It’s either insubstantial flaws you don’t fear or flaws that don’t trespass any personal sensitivities. Which is funny because if the flaw truly doesn’t matter you know the person in a tizzy over it is personally invested.

Not them, but it's more that devotion to a person becomes a moral failing when it prevents you from ever questioning their decisions or disagreeing with them. That's pretty much what the conflict between Hubert and Ferdinand is about. It's not a problem that's exclusive to Hubert, either, Dedue is the same way with Dimitri.

Hubert disobeys Edelgard if it’s in her real interest
Of all the “simp” characters, he is the least bad (in this regard).

… He let this bitch start out a full-fledged war lmao. If anything, causing thousands of lives to be lost shouldn’t be in her “real” interest. He is a punk for that reason.

Anyone playing this?
I've been absolutely starved for decent FE style games and this has scratched the itch despite being too easy and a few plot missteps.

Picked up Three Hopes last night. Didn’t actually start resuming what I had done with the demo until late this afternoon (am on Azure Gleam - not very impressed with this route story wise so far. Granted my expectations weren’t high but I decided to have fun with it).

So far I’ve just been wigging it especially when it comes to gameplay (I’ve played Hyrule Warriors before). Doesn’t seem to disappoint me so far. I think I’ve enjoyed utilizing Shez, Ingrid and Dimitri too much.

Which game would you compare it too be the closest in the series?

Been tempted to buy that for awhile now, but I have been hesitant ever since I bought Vestraria Saga. My logic was that if Shouzo Kaga made it, I was bound to have some fun with it. The game feels like something from a time capsule, like it was ripped from a unreleased FE NES game and the names have been changed around to avoid being sued. It is the most Fire Emblem game I have ever played.

I would say its as good as FE7 but its as easy if not easier than FE8. The game honestly gives you way too many powers and tactical options for decimating your enemies. Granted I've only beat it on normal for my first playthrough so I'm not sure how it holds up on higher difficulties. I would also say its a cut above the average FE story, but nothing mind blowing. The maps are on the big side, but I tend to like bigger maps (thankfully they aren't FE4 big so that's good).

Vesteria Saga is better from a gameplay perspective and map design, but in terms of presentation, characters and classes this one destroys VS. VS feels really old and janky. It honestly makes sense that VS was originally freeware, but them turning around and charging 20 bucks statesides feels way overpriced. I love it for being well designed but its by no means modern. This actually feels like a modern 2D FE with enough tweaks to make it feel unique, just don't go into it expecting Kaga levels of genius game design. I'd still highly recommend it.

So, with the Bridget debacle, I thought it would be a good time to talk about the nightmare that was the Cleobulus gender translation. The translators used male pronouns where pronouns were not used, and now everyone thinks the lady with massive tits was actually a dude. It honestly gets me angrier than it should, and I feel robbed that we didn't even get to see “Cornelia” in her true form.

As solace, here's a fan portrait of Cleobulus that I liked.

Basically everything said about all the girls is the opposite of the truth I think.

I mean I got to reference Transphobic Techno to people who weren't in the loop and their reactions where kinda funny especially once I gave them context.

It is a spoiler for a big part of Houses' story, but Hopes assumes the player completed the base game and depicts quite a few things considered spoilers in Houses very quickly, such as the fact that Claude is an Almyran Prince named Khalid, Seteth and Flayn are Cichol and Cethleann (opening cutscene, mind you, and said cutscene also shows Indech and Macuil fighting in dragon form), “Volkhard von Arundel” is Thales impersonating Edelgard's uncle, and “Cornelia Arnim” is an Agarthan infiltrator who masterminded the Tragedy of Duscur. The fact that the Agarthan impersonating Cornelia is named Cleobulus was revealed very early on in the story, as in she is addressed as such in Azure Gleam Chapter 3, which is the pre-timeskip prologue section of the game. Said chapter also reveals that Dimitri's uncle Rufus was a major conspirator in the Tragedy, so a lot of things that would be considered spoilers get revealed very early on and then a lot of new story clues get thrown in as well during the course of the main story.

Cleobolus was always a woman. Likely not too different from Kronya's design but with how IS was rushing things it seems they didn't even have any concept art of her besides the disguise as Cornelia Arnim.

I'm more interested at what her Asclepius wand could have done had we been able to take it from her battered corpse after reclaiming Fhirdiad.

I suspect that the Cleobulus character data using the male modifiers was due to default-zero circumstances. It was likely put in the game early and then dummied out as Cornelia's final roles were determined.
It's possible especially knowing how retarded IS and Koei can be.
