Curates are essentially worthless. Don’t bother leveling them up and you don’t need more than one per map. I think you could get by with using a bishop for the entire game instead. Hammerne is overrated if you’re smart about inventory management. I guess you can use it to refill warp on the map you get it. Aum has one good use in that bringing back someone from the dead gives you a camel to help manage inventory during the end of that chapter.
Curates do technically have a payoff for training in that magic is set damage in this game, but yeah you dont really need to go through the trouble. Best mages are Merric and Linde cause of their prfs, magic damage is pretty much a nonfactor outside of those.
Wyvern knights are the best class in the game IMO and I found great success deploying all the flyers in nearly every chapter I could use them in. Since enemies prioritize Marth, you can use him to keep snipers out of range. Bishops are the second best class. Boa is underrated. I found him super useful.
As is the case in most games, yeah probably. Boah is also very good.
I think giving the boots to Marth is potentially suboptimal. The boots really only help on a few maps or when you need to bail someone out. If you’re playing smart, I feel like someone else can make better use of them. Smart warp usage also points in favor of giving boots to someone other than Marth.
If you're using a combat carry other than Marth then yeah I would say probably give it to them.
Julian can be good if you level him up and give him the devil sword, but it’s a lot of work. I think it’s more of a fun challenge than a legitimate strategy.
Yeah. He has no weapon level growth so he'll never be able to use any of the better swords, so Devil Sword is the best he will ever be able to do. It's a fun niche thing against the final boss at least.
The only item worth hoarding is warp. Everything else should be utilized as soon as possible.
You don't even really need to do that, FE1 and its remakes give plenty of warp to justify using it whenever you want.
Speed is the most important stat, IMO. Strategically giving speed boosters to slower units can be very effective for fleshing out your army.
Probably. Doubling threshold is 1 AS iirc so you can get even the slowest units to double just about anything.
Managing inventory is the hardest part of the game. The game gives you plenty of money. I only bothered to use the silver card for secret shops.
Convoy and trading is awful in this game, yeah.
Promoting as soon as possible is better.
Promo sets your stats to class bases so further levels in Tier 1 only serves to make your bonuses worse.
Tomas is arguably the best archer. He only needs to get two levels to promote. Once he promotes, his stats will be better, and his growths will be better than other options. Jeorge plateaus. Gordon is a PITA to train. Wolf has skill issues and will miss when you need him to hit the most, but Wolf is probably my runner up
He definitely is. For his very brief training arc he ends with better stats than Jeorge, whose stats are worse than Sniper class bases.
Barst and Daros are both underrated. Barst has access to the devil axe, and Daros has utility in early chapters because he can go on water
Water walking is helpful at certain points, and Barst once again has a funny niche against the final boss.
Xane is overrated. He eats experience when you can just deploy another strong unit. I find him only useful for two purposes: if you lack another strong unit, and if you need a second Marth. If Xane transforms into Marth, he can activate recruitments for example.
I like the flexibility of becoming any one of your strong units, or even support units. I've gotten use out of him becoming a staffer in the past. He's very much a prototype dancer.

Gaiden’s early game is plagued by low hit rates. NOBODY CAN FUCKING HIT ANYTHING. And yet the enemy archers have been able to hit nearly every time. Luckily the enemies are so relatively weak nobody was ever seriously at risk of dying.

so he'll never be able to use any of the better swords
Technically not entirely true, as Julian or Rickard can use the only Manual in the game. It increases their weapon level stat from 2 to 7. It gives them access to the Killing Edge, Wyrmslayer, and Armorslayer. I think the reason why they are the only playable units that lack weapon level growths is because there isn't a battle animation for the Levin Sword for their thief class. And the Levin Sword so happens to require a weapon rank of 8 to use.

I’ve always used the manual to get a bow user up to speed to use Parthia for Khadein. It comes in handy on that chapter. Keep Parthia with at least one use so you can use it with Starsphere. This makes the Grust and Macedon chapters easier. I’m not sure what would be a better use for the manual. I guess if you want a Devil Sword Julian, using the manual as a stop gap until you get it will allow him to be a better contributor. I don’t think the wyrmslayer would be much effective though because of Manakete’s high defense. You want high-strength characters to use the wyrmslayers.

Feels like we’re past due for Fire Emblem. But maybe that’s only because I meh’d on Engage so totally it borders on amnesia and was far more recent than I think.

I suppose it’s going to be developed for Switch 2.

Edit: pretty sure I said this before too. Bleak.

We’ve been getting them roughly every three years since Awakening, we’re right on schedule. It’s definitely that Engage was such a nothing game that it feels like it’s been since 3 Houses launched

Don’t hold your breath for a Jugdral remake. That’s never going to happen.

Fucking Engage, man
I’ve never seen a game with so many flashes, mechanics and colors yet ended up a nothing shite and forgotten not even a month in.. the DLC didn’t do shit either.
Like someone out there need to study this shit and how did it come to this because this is boardline impressive.

Btw.. I heard about Engage manga recently and it’s been a thing since 2023, they just released the 5th issue last June with our favorite niggas on the cover. Anyone saw it?

From little comments I checked, they are saying the plot is vastly improved and wished it was used in the game.
For example: King Morion actually acting like a king for once and made a decision to fucking kill Ivy for her assault. When Diamant objected, he told him to basically shut the fuck up.

IS usually overlaps their development cycles. It's possible Engage did poorly enough for IS to have to go back on whatever they were working on to revamp it. It might explain the long silence.

Engage's "character designs" (and I use that term extremely lightly) were so off-putting to me I didn't buy it. Not even mentioning the caucazoid-featured negroids that the Japs use to boil the racial frog. So many of the designs from the men to the women were garish/milquetoast in my opinion, either overdesigned or using ugly color palettes or outright created to ape VTubers. This shit really started bleeding in with Awakening's quirk factor, Fates didn't help, yet 3Houses wasn't bad in the first half. At least the school uniforms had... "uniformity". Then Boom, you got Engage...

I'm usually a gameplay first kinda guy, but I STILL can't bring myself to try this game because of how much I fucking hate the character designs and art style of this game. The memberberry rings don't help much either.

I am gonna throw a wild guess, I pulled it outta my ass but I firmly believe it because it’s the only logical explanation to this mess:
Whoever designed these actually used AI to generate these designs. He somehow managed to get there before anybody else on the planet hence why none of those anti-AI fucks factchecked his ass or perhaps didn’t give a shit because it’s Engage.
Ivy’s design is just jarring, you can lust over her all you want but those thrones sticking out of her elbows are extremely off putting.
Vander is another one that triggered my autism level to no end because ever since I saw him on that Chinese leak way back I seriously thought to myself: “Did they steal Drayden’s design from Pokemon B&W and altered him a bit so people won’t notice?”
Even the locations didn’t feel any of them made by human beings. Fucking Solm felt like : “Istanbul in the middle of a vast dessert” … ENTER …wait for 2 minutes… picture generated.. Save as.. Done.

I know FE designs always mirrored the current anime era but not even Jugdral with its mullets on the guys was this blatant about it. Hell, the likes of Sigurd and Eldigan are as 90s anime as it gets and people love them to this day. The Genshin/Vtuber era can't die soon enough.
Choosing such a garrish style for the new cast that clashes with everything that came before was such a baffling decision for the celebratory anniversay game that was supposed to bring everyone together.

When my friend saw the designs for Engage he said, "These guys make me miss Dorcas' character design".

At least Boucheron is just wearing an average suit of armor. Can't really say much about the color palette
Whoever designed these actually used AI to generate these designs
The artist is known for being an bit over the top with their art, but I just looked at their Twitter gallery and I'm pretty sure that she's going schizophrenic.

It’s not AI, AI would have done “better” in that it would be closer to what we would consider FE to be. I really don’t like it at all.

All this talk about how it’s destroying the west, boiling the racial pot, or a complete self sabotage or some shit is dumb. The designs are like that because the weebshit company tried and failed to appeal to its core base demographic.

The people who are associated with this game are generally the same people associated with the Vtumor or Genshin stuff. Changing the designs to be brighter, more colorful, attempts at “””iconic”” over stylization is the way to go after that audience and market. The real demographics in practice turned out to not like it very much, and it’s been a resounding failure. I’m sure they won’t try it again.

They made a reasonably calculates decision to appeal to what they thought was their core customer base and it just didn’t work. It’s just a bad game, not much more or less than that.

It also revealed how shallow so-called long-time fans of the series are, but I digress.
