I think it’s typical anime ‘could be black, could just be swarthy’ because real black characters in anime look more akin to Mr. Popo.

There was a person I went to Uni with, and she complained that three houses, the most representation heavy game to date, doesn’t have Asexual representation. This always stuck with me, because you, the player, can chose to be asexual. Marrying nobody is an option, so is Sothis (yourself), and there are several platonic endings like with Alois. For every charecter, romantic supports are entirely optional. In fact, both Women and Men in that game are entirely optional if you don’t want any in your army at all. She can asexual maxx it if she wanted, nothings stopping her.
I think about this person every now and then when this topic comes up. Some people just don’t want to be happy.
Having said that Solei should be able to S rank female Corrin. As a very straight dude the fact that I can’t have two chocolate bars in Conquest, and my only option for two chocolate bars is Diet Tharja, has disrupted my shitposting drinking game for this game for years now. Fuck representation, but it would be way funnier if the horny game let you do it.
I think about this person every now and then when this topic comes up. Some people just don’t want to be happy.

Why do you say so? I see no issue with it. It allows for the main games to have bigger budgets and no signs of mobile game rot has crossed into them.

Considering it has kept up after Echoes, all of the Three Houses era, and whatever it wants to take from Engage... The worst thing for the series is IS pulling a Konami with this shit. Fire Emblem pachinko, anyone?

Engage literally had a gacha mechanic built into it with rings and all the character designs look like they belong in a FOTW dopamine miner more than FE, but sure, whatever you say.

I honestly just feel completely alienated from the series since Echoes.
Engage just has so little to do with what I like about Fire Emblem that it at this point feels like a completely different series.
Its just a feeling of alienation, at first I thought its just me getting older but honestly I do think there is a genuine dip in quality in the newer games (which are about 10 years old now apparently??)
Maybe it is just me but I really prefer games that stick to what they're good at, refine what works and do not try to reinvent the wheel every game.
Going to keep it to japanese series for now.
Good examples of this are Fire Emblem 6-12, the greatest deviation of the formula being Radiant Dawn with its part structure.
While each game in this era has slightly different mechanics you can tell they all have a similar tone to each other and the character design is similar too.
Character personalities too for the most part aren't so hyper for the lack of a better word.
Not every character has one gimmick they agressively show off and have to cram into every line of dialogue.
The only Engage tier character writing that comes to mind right now (I am sure there's a few more) is Illyana from the Tellius games, her entire personality is always being hungry and wanting to bum food off of everyone.
And she has been ridiculed for this shallow personality for as long as I can remember.
But now in Engage, Fates and Awakening there are a lot more Illyana type characters.
You got Kellam in Awakening who's every dialogue is about how no one can see him despite being the largest man inthe biggest armour there is.
You got Nowi who is some bizarre leaning into the "I'm a 1000 year old 8 year old girl" trope what with you being able to marry her and some lines that show how "mature" she is.
In one of the DLC maps she also has dialogue with Gharnef and i'll just let the dialogue speak for itself
I don't really know how to describe it, the whole series just feels less honest and like its tired of what it once was.

Character designs have a lot to do with the artist. I don’t see how the character design has anything to do with Heroes. Three Houses’ designs are for the most part good and grounded and that was post-Heroes, too.
I’m guessing you mean the fact that ring forging is random. I can see how that’s annoying, but it’s a very small part of the game, and there aren’t that many rings. Is running around trying to find a specific Pokémon in wild grass a gacha mechanic?
You’re free to dislike Engage, but I fail to see what Engage’s shortcomings have to do with Heroes.

Engages gatcha mechanics are way overhyped. You get enough “real” rings for everyone so your long terms aren’t impacted by it. There are so few rings per game that if you want your special JPEG your gonna get it, it costs an in game currency that is otherwise mostly useless at the phase of the game where it matters. Even the bonuses you get are really, really minor even for S rank rings, rending the whole thing flavor more than utility. It’s just lame tonics.

I just wish goytendo had the balls to show one of their nogs as they actually are. Shit skin, gorilla features, soulless eyes, black pube heads of hair etc. The ones from Awakening and Engage are those "safe" kinds of anime niggers which they give caucazoid bone structures and hair to so they aren't full sub-saharan. Modern Pokemon is a huge fan of this kind, always making sure to give them non-abyssal blue eyes full of soul so you and the rest of the asian market don't automatically reject them.
Then again, shitums are only a part of the problem as the medieval warfare authenticity of FE gets more broken by the year. As the series gets more cotton candy-colored anime bullshit in it, treehouse dialogue, and ways to escape perma-death. It's pretty blatant how much the political intrigue has fallen off in favor of anime waifus, gimmicks, and persona gameplay. You cannot tell me that Awakening's worldbuilding is better than Genealogy's. More to Quartermaster's point, the further FE gets from grounded war and lordly politics the more dissonance you feel. FE shouldn't have "anime characters" bumble-fucking around like it's an isekai. Marth wasn't some quipping high school smart ass, he was a noble and acted like it. Sigurd wasn't collecting gems from a dog's ass, he was a person of lordly caliber...
Speaking of lordly caliber - if you want to know what modern FE is missing, just play Tactics Ogre and compare the characters, world building, and dialogue. Tactics Ogre has magic and monsters too, but everything is taken seriously. There's no "kawaii anime" shit.

Nintendo doesn’t do that because Nintendo is first and foremost a Japanese company and Japanese people think blacks are ugly. It’s really that simple. China is even more racist than Japan and as that market grows we’re only going to see further Caucasoidization of black characters. Even blacks themselves prefer those features and the only group really demanding common looking blacks are white woketards and a minority subset of black people. Neither groups are at all a factor in the gaming market.
I’ve said this before, but Game Freak is much more accommodating of DEI wokeness than Nintendo is. We will see how that develops in the post-Trump era as DEI falls out. Game Freak may end up shifting.
