Making every zone Amaurot again and again is partly why I hate Dawntrail's (very) late game story. Hell, they did it with Endwalker and the Dead Ends, but at least it showed us how different planets died, not just what happened on our planet and it's reflections. Trying to make the Villains sympathetic also starting to get on my nerves. Let Calyx be just an evil bastard of a stunted teenager inside a man's body, for God's sake. Makes me want Vallens, Athena, and Zenos again.
There isn't really an issue with sympathetic villains, but there is an issue with the Disneyification of villains and conflict in general.
I get that diplomacy and talking things out is part and parcel of the Scions, but the stakes keep getting erased into a nub.
A minor example, but we went from Beast Tribe quests being about fighting against tempered individuals (with tempering now being completely toothless), establishing an Adventurer's Guild, to reclaiming an Imperial base/re-establishing diplomatic relations with various locals, to...
...running a food delivery service and being a wagie for XIV's version of Marine World.
It's a microcosm of the general attitude and approach they're taking to conflict, antagonists (there aren't any, really, in the EW/DT examples up above) and has wormed its way into other content.
The Arcadion, while it is appropriate for the world of professional wrestling it is taking inspiration from, has all the tension sucked out of it once the reveal comes that it is all fake. That might've been fine and fun for like
one tier, but I know a lot of people were really fucking let down once the last tier came out.
