They take defamation more seriously than any other crime over there.
Even a rapist could sue their victim to the ground if they wanted for libel. Probably. Funny enough, they can get even more butthurt when people say mean things about them. Not at the level of UK where you're just arrested on the spot but still pretty bad.

Regardless of whatever goes on in America, I still thank Christ that truth is a defense against libel/slander here.
Anyway, thread tax; Starting to notice a lot more people starting to do the Endwalker raids and extremes more and more, guess everyone's just waiting for 7.5 and what seems to be decent rewards from the V&C dungeon. Also seeing people STILL seething about the glamours and mount from it.
 
Another matome (news aggregation) site has closed down, citing Square Enix' stance on company defamation as one of the reasons.

◆コメントの対応について
誹謗中傷などのコメントをする方はIPBAN処置をしてもスマホでIPを何度も変えてコメントするため対応が難しいです。
また、禁止IP機能のワイルドカードを使って広範囲にBANをすると今度は他のスマホユーザーも一緒に書き込めなくなってしまうため長年悩まされてきました。
さらにまとめサイト「ネトゲ速報」が閉鎖されあちらのユーザーがこちらに来ているのかコメントの対応・削除などが非常に大変になりました。

◆13年間、FF14をプレイしてきて
新生エオルゼアとほぼ同時期にブログを開設し4600日以上運営を続けてきましたが、FF14に対してのモチベーションの低下も一つの理由です
もちろんFF14には十分すぎるほど楽しませていただきました。

◆Regarding Comment Management
Users posting defamatory comments remain difficult to manage even after IP bans, as they repeatedly change their IP addresses via mobile devices to continue commenting.
Furthermore, using wildcards in the IP ban function to block a wide range of addresses has long been problematic, as it prevents other legitimate smartphone users from commenting.
Additionally, the closure of the aggregation site "Netoge Sokuho" has led to a significant increase in comments from its former users, making comment management and deletion extremely burdensome.
※Comment sections for all articles will be disabled after a few days.

◆Having played FF14 for 13 years

I started this blog around the same time as A Realm Reborn and have maintained it for over 4600 days. A decline in motivation towards FF14 is one reason for this decision.
Of course, FF14 has provided me with more than enough enjoyment.

(´・ω・`) Honestly, even if I suspend my account now, it's more likely that Square Enix is already pursuing a disclosure request for my personal details. If it makes the news in a few months, I hope you'll just laugh about it... To all my fellow Hikasen members, thank you so much for everything up until now. As for FF14, I'll just see how things turn out for Halmarth in the main story going forward.

To me this reads that the admin is very, very afraid and desperately tries to avoid a fine that SE might dictate.
I have tried my best to skim through the comment sections of either site, read articles a few months back, but I can't find anything I would consider phonebooking or stalking SE employees. Yoshida gets a lot of shit "10-yen Yoshida" (Reference to his magic card which is worth 10 yen), or posting pictures of the mahjong live stream he got wasted in. A lot of people assume it was an article about the terrible financial situation that the first site that closed down posted, citing numbers Square published themself. I assume in a negative context, this could be seen as 'company defamation'.

This whole thing made me think a lot less of Square and made me find new appreciation for living in a western country where a constitution is protecting normal citizens from corporations like this.

Well to be fair, we're talking about a Japanese company, not Israel.
That being said, SE shutting down any mention of their financial troubles this hard and burning a lot of Japanese goodwill to maintain narrative is extremely telling. While I don't have 100% of all the information, I think the "activist investors" are finally starting to go for the kill while SE is going to flail about and try to fight back.

Maybe this is their new product. Since no one buys their new games and XIV is over the hill now they'll just drive profits from lawsuit settlements.
 
Been debating going back to Reaper in 8.0. I’m too far into the expansion to worry about changing from viper/dancer. Looking forward to trying the variant dungeon when work’s over
 
I was excited to play the Variant Dungeon but the content drought in general has left me so unplugged I completely forgot it was coming out this week. I can't even imagine what the playercount will look like when they finally do drop 8.0.
 
You're not missing much, they've fucked up with the rewards again 🙃

clearing all 13 paths doesn't give you a mount, instead you get a reskin of a craftable sleeping mask (fuck that), a lot of the rewards of the variant difficulty has been moved to the new "normal" one, 100 currency from the "normal" mode gives you the carpet, and 100 from criterion gives you the genie.

What a dud of a patch, but at least not 7.1 bad.
 
Joined a blind prog group for Merchant's Tale (Advanced) and managed to clear it. Was legitimately fun to run and learn the mechanics fresh even if the devs have managed to completely scuff the rewards. It's just difficult enough to be fun but not so punishing that you can't recover.

That thing is straight up from porn. I'm sure it'll look better than the 2B mask for whatever they made it for, too.

Also they dropped the ball by not having the character lie on the rug the way merchant Meteon does

That's an ongoing problem. There are only three servers with large populations in FFXI nowadays (one is the unofficial Reddit server, the other its runoff server, and then one with the JP presence). The article mentioned Asura, which is the haven for Redditors in need of a Linkshell (the Free Company of XI) and thus one of the busiest in the game. I've been on Asura since before Reddit launched so at the very least it keeps the economy going.

It's kinda epic they needed to shut off another world. I doubt it has to do with DT but maybe they'll give us dual subs given how bad it's been for XIV retention.
 
I am just catching up with the thread. SE's finances have been an issue for a while, but it sounds legitimately bad now. You can tell something is up because of the cuts, but also the amount of information on current products. FF7 part 3, KH4, and FF14 8.0 are at the point where they should be an expected release, but instead, nothing. Something is definitely iffy with SE regarding FF14.

It's sad, but they have released so many duds lately, FF16 must have cost 100s of millions.
