I don't expect FF14 to "die" within the next decade. It'll continue to drop but I can't see it sinking lower than GW2 or ESO, which aren't as polished and appealing and aren't putting out that much more content on the regular. WoW's housing will probably siphon off some FF14 players.

I can't imagine paying that kind of money and investing all that time to just sit in an auditorium with Yoshida talking about the polygons on a Lalafell's nose for 20 minutes.

The main attraction of going to these MMO cons like Blizzcon or EVE Online's Fanfest is to meet up with your guildies and have a drink outside at the food trucks or the beer garden. Or to show off your cosplay to other people who are interested in the characters/armors/aesthetics of the IP.

I know a few people who just go to xiv fanfest's to hook up lol. It seems to be relatively common to hook up at these events with your erp buddies. Horrifying, especially so since most erp fags are trannies

ESO is dead already, GW3 eventually is going to kill GW2, WoW will suck in some players until they realize that the engine is shit and there isn't much to do other than to raid the latest raid or do mythic+ which with the gatekeeping are a pain in the ass to get into and all that grinding. It's still too early to tell if this game is dead in a decade but yeah its peak has passed and I don't expect any groundbreaker changes soon or Yoshi-P having the balls to fire people who want to design this game around Ultimate. A raid planner, advanced macros, and a dungeon that looks like that it's from a mobile game won't save this game from more bleeding and 7.4 will be another dud like 7.1.

A core issue with every live letter is that they're trying to hype up 7.4 with content that wont be out for another few months in 7.45. By the time that content actually hits people have already stopped caring about it.

Idk why they do this to themselves but their Live letter format shoots themselves in the foot and kills its own hype.

I haven't looked much into the game, but figured the LL might be interesting. They showed nothing of interest. More modern slop, more cash shop gear, the MSQ still is centred in S9 and for some reason we focus on Lalafell. Are we actually going to the 9th for the next expansion?

There’s a huge emphasis on Krile in this trailer so I’ll be snorting copium that they’ll actually give her more screen time and cut back on Wuk. I highly doubt it though.
I hope you're right but I do not trust them to learn shit until they're in the new expansion. Even that is :optimistic:

Every moment I spent leveling WHM to 70 reminded me of how miserable it was leveling everything through Stormblood. Just a couple runs through Gimylt Dark left and I can leave it behind finally
I feel like Stormblood has my favorite dungeons but after hearing everyone shit on the 60-70 leveling process, I have to come to the conclusion that it might be Stockholm Syndrome.

I'll take leveling in Stormblood dungeons over running Vanguard and Origenics to level any day. Especially the latter fuck that tortoise miniboss.

I recently found out that you can use sleep spells on the Origenics turtle to interrupt its big aoe stomp (until it becomes immune due to diminishing returns obviously) which makes it slightly less annoying.

Also won a Yan minion doing treasure maps a few days ago and I’m happy. If only I can get that same luck for the Hythlodaeus minion from the Elpis ones.

This also works for the dolls in the last pack in Strayborough and the big zoomy boi in the last pack in Meso Terminal. I've complained a lot in the past about not getting to use Repose outside of a single Healer role quest, so I'll take three dungeons where I can pop it when Holy stun isn't possible. With Swiftcast having a 40s cooldown too, it's basically an instacast for healer most of the time.

Are they done retrofitting the MSQ to a singleplayer experience yet? I feel like looking back, that was a signifier of the game's decline. Not only because chasing a demographic that doesn't like MMOs, and asking them to pay a monthly subscription on top of that is unwise, but also because when they talk about resource costs being the reason they can't develop certain things, this is where they've been spending some of those resources.

(also fuck Chrysalis, of all the duties they decided not to radically change it's this one? I wouldn't care if not for the fact that screwing up the meteors results in a wipe so late in the fight and a couple of clueless people can absolutely cause wipes there)
I mean part of the problem is that the MSQ is required which means the duties not having some kind of fallback for single-player results in the leveling becoming exponentially more annoying as time goes on.

A lot of major stopping point blockers when I was deathmarching the MSQ back in 2019 were the points in Stormblood where the story got kinda boring and then I hit a required multiplayer duty. I'd put aside six hours to play, spend five hours on the story, and then not be able to get a party together due to the time of day so I'd stop. And then I'd be so annoyed by the mistiming that I'd stop playing for a couple weeks. Every required duty during a long MSQ march is an additional opportunity for players to fall off and never come back, and this isn't some hypothetical situation - if you look at people talk about leveling through the MSQ prior to the revamp, this was up there with complaints about the amount of dialogue and pointless filler storylines.

IMO - the way to solve this would have probably been for fewer dungeons and trials to be in the MSQ proper. Have one or two at most during an MSQ storyline and the others put aside for optional side content. Hell, decoupling dungeons from the MSQ would allow you to actually make harder dungeons.

That's all conventions, at least the ones I've been to in the US.
