Making decent enough gil from the Pilgrim's Traverse still. I'm probably going to stop once I get enough of the tokens for the forgiven mimicry mount though. I also got the cat cart from the normal version of the Arkveld fight. Feels good.

Speaking of trannies, XIV continues to die a slow death that was easily avoidable. Lost all the momentum both Shadowbringers and Endwalker brought, and the new player numbers (blue line) craters out.

Doing Stormblood level numbers after the blockbuster that was ShB and EW is really pretty grim. (And a testament to how good ShB was comparatively. Look at how they managed to retain and even gain numbers deep into post patch territory right up to EW.)

I am not a fan of that "making changes for people who play in short bursts" change. Most of my FC doesn't log on because there's fuckall to do not because they have limited time. This feels like an absolutely horrible change if they actually go through with it that will kill actual player retention.

My speculation is that they want more people logging in for a hour or so for the entire patch then have this wave of people who play everything upfront then fuck off until the rest of the patch shows up. HOW Yoshida is going to do that is going to be interesting.

That is the trick; that is always what this game has only had on offer.
You log in, you smash your weeklies in a few hours, maybe a do your savages in an extra hour or two then come back next week. That's basically been the sum of the content in this game. Incredibly short lived, front-loaded temporary engagement.

I don't think it was easily avoidable, tbh. Even as mediocre as Dawntrail is, Endwalker had it's problems and the game itself is coming up on twelve years built on one of the worst engines ever devised and rapidly running out of ideas.
I'm not sure there's much you can do with XIV moving forward as it is - there's so much bloat in all areas that it's hard to add anything that isn't just <established concept> but <small twist>. Tanking, Healing, DPS, Raiding, Dungeons, Trails, etc are all fun, but have been the same for a very long time. I'm not sure what new classes I'd even want for the next expansion and they've been whining about how hard new races are so that's out, but any new classes will just be a slightly different version of an existing one.
They're also actually running out of mainline titles to mine for content also, I think they've hit parts of FF1, FF4, FF5, FF6, FF7, FF8, FF9, FFX, FFXI, FFXII, FFXV, and FFXVI - leaving 2, 3, and 13 (unless I missed some FF2/3 content) - they're going to have to back into the well and reharvest some content in what is probably another "in case of emergency, break glass" type stuff (Sephiroth, Blitzball, maybe some Kingdom Hearts Square stuff).
Yeah Dawntrail sucks, but the game is getting old and has been painting itself into a corner year after year and I'm not sure how they were ever going to get out of it, Dawntrail or not.

The items that a new intern worked on to learn how the system works is going to be sold with premium currency.
People are melting down about this, but in reality it is going to be the ugliest looking pieces anyways so you can completely avoid it unless you want to buy something to let you access the Auction House from your House..then you will have to pay 80 dollars for that.
But you can ignore the cash shop and lose out on very little.

There's a premium currency added just for Housing (Hearthsteel) which is patently pretty horrible and they're coming directly out of the gate with "some items" for housing going to be on it's own separate cash shop with it's own separate currency.
They tried to get in front of it by suggesting it makes certain repeat transactions easier, but did not elaborate on why they needed Hearthsteel to exist when Battle.net already has it's own currency (which is already used for WoW tokens in WoW) which players have been using for a full decade. It's pretty blatantly just a trap to have you convert currency from b.net over to Hearthsteel and not be able to convert it back and something you see in free-to-play games.
On it's face, it's fine but considering how bad Blizzard has been about "slippery slope" items, people expect Housing to be another blatant cash grab that ruins the experience (see also, $100 mount, paid transfers, the wow token, level boosting, trader's tender, etc) which is honestly a realistic expectation.
There's already some exclusive housing items in the $90 box for Midnight, which should be a cautionary sign of things to come.

The Crystal Tower raids are a giant love letter to FF3, which is one of Yoshi-P's favorite FF's. Most of the ShB plot was also straight up lifted from FF3 as well, with the whole flood of light thing needing warriors of darkness to restore balance caused by warriors of light fucking things up.

I have never liked the overt crossover stuff. I would rather have gotten more original FF14 content. That's why I am playing this game and not those games, but it seems like Yoshi-P is creatively bankrupt. I would bet money that 8.0 is going to be yet another lost civilization story and moral grandstanding and his twisted message about how you must accept death and eternal life is evil.

Good. SE shot their load in EW and handed their cash cow to malignant trannies and terror supporters who immediately sterilized it and shot it in the head. The graphics are ass, the gameplay is ass, the tech is ass, and they vampirized every dollar of profit to suck into their other gacha garbage games that are also ass. Troon Lumat and his genocidal journey against FF9 can fuck right off to hell. This isn't a recoverable problem, Squeenix's fundamental values are fucked and they deserve to die.
