I suspect the "treasure islands of Blindfrost" will probably be a variant dungeon storyline, similarly to Aloalo getting into the "forgotten peoples of the South Sea Isles". I doubt it will get a full expansion story, mostly because I suspect they consider the book pretty much closed on Garlemald, and any Ilsabard stuff inevitably goes back there.

Meracydia is what I consider the most likely contender for the next one, but I will admit I have also been expecting that one since the whole deal with Tiamat back in 5.5.
Place your bets now people. What are the odds we get Meracydia Wakanda?

I wonder how far along are they into a pivot to FFXVII - with XIV coming up on 16 years of operation and them clearly running up against piles of creative stagnation and technical debt they can't seem to work themselves out of. Building on an engine of a poorly optimized PS3 game is insane for as long as they've done it.

I have no idea what you could do to "spice up" XIV at this point besides a massive rework of every class that they seem pretty clearly unwilling to do.

Meracydia is where the catgirls came from originally and it's meant to be australia.
Isn't it supposed to still be a war blasted hellscape from when the Allagans tried to invade? I know, I know, not that different from Garlemald now. Also the only lore we have on it is from one of the Encyclopedia Eorzea's that basically says the few locals left have a kill on sight rule for anyone trying to enter. Sure they could maybe hand wave that by using Tiamat I guess.

ETA: Per Encyclopedia Eorzea, "Far to the south of the Three Great Continents, beyond the equatorial line, lies the second of Hydaelyn’s three landmasses—Meracydia. Five millennia ago at the close of the Third Astral Era, the Allagan Empire, unsatisfied with controlling merely Aldenard, Ilsabard, and Othard, set their sights to the south and began an invasion that would end with nearly the entire continent being rendered a wasteland. While some areas remain uninhabitable even today, those which have been repopulated remain recluse and very rarely welcome contact with the civilizations of the northern hemisphere, ofttimes attacking any who approach, whether it be by sea or by air. Because of this, very little of the region is known, including even the most basic of geographical information."

Sure Emet hinted that things have maybe changed during the end of EW, but how much could they have really changed?

I don't trust SE to make another good MMO. FFXIV only got to be good because Yoshi-P turned the game around and developed so much clout within the company that he could ward off the moneygrubbing jews of japan from implementing their worst ideas to monetize the game. Hell, I'd argue that's even coming to an end considering how fucking greedy the cosmetic shop has gotten coupled with how lackluster the new crafted treasure map outfits are.

I fully expect any new MMO from them to be a microtransaction hell. Fully gacha possibly.

WoW has had multiple periods where they completely overhauled classes/specs and they've even had cycles where they simplify shit a lot and then slowly reintroduce complexity until it becomes too much. Having that kind of system would mean being agile and flexible and acting on player feedback while it was still relevant, so that'll never happen.

XIV's problem isn't possible avenues for new directions or capacity - the dev team and cycle is just so thoroughly ossified by Japanese corporate horseshit that you can't expect anything new until the game is on the verge of collapse again.

That's true - but very often WoW players hated the constant changes just for the sake of it. It was the concept of "borrowed power" that really ruined the game for many players. They would introduce some central, core mechanic every expansion - it would take time to 'click' but would eventually find a footing, then get thrown in the garbage at the end of the expansion for the next temporary mechanic. Some classes/specs were getting changed and tweaked constantly (Hunter, Ret Paladin, etc) and some were just forgotten garbage (Sub Rogue, Hunter) that just sat for months or years at a time.

FFXIV doesn't do Borrowed Power but they seem extremely reluctant to change anything to a point where it feels extremely homogenized to a point where it feels like any new classes that get added (of which it feels like it's 2 per expansion) will just feel like an existing class with a small change.

FFXIV could do with a bit of WoW's experimentation, and WoW could do with a bit of FFXIV's stability - but I don't see FFXIV adopting it at all.

I think the main problem WRT homogenization is that they have pigeonholed themselves.

They've focused so much on escalating encounter design that it's cramping the viable design space of jobs. On the general level, there's the need to make everything function around the 2m burst design mandate, which inherently forces every job into a similar mold of having filler phases before using all their big hits under stacked buffs.

But the encounter design being increasingly centered around faster and tighter DDR forces jobs into a certain mold, too. You essentially can't have "casters" in fights designed like, say, the last raid tier. Which is why BLM, the last surviving caster in the game, got gutted in 7.2, and they were quite explicit about remaking it so it could keep up with the tier's fight design.

Add to this the requirement for every job to be viable doing exactly the same things, no matter the comp or who else they are matched with, and you get a design space where things "have" to be this way.
Especially because it's also just easy for SE this way, and they are very comfortable resting on their laurels. Every job works the same, every job is reliably capable of the same things, no job is going to interact poorly with phasing or mechanics if you tailor the timeline after the fact that everyone is bursting at even minutes and remove everything that might conflict with the DDR mechanics, like a class not having free movement on demand.

Trooncer got banned on X, now rebranded himself as some male vtuber with a scottish accent.
Ok so I had to log back in because of this post (I've been busy with work-related stuff lately, but still browse) and this stood out to me. I saw someone mention this on a /v/ thread recently too, apparently he's using a male avatar with blonde hair (keep this part in mind).

I had long suspected the identity behind the Athena channel (I knew it was one of those trancers, and a dude larping as a woman, hence the AI female voice). However the "scottish accent" part now makes me certain beyond any shadow of a doubt just who is behind the channel:

This is Graeham, aka Theodric (an openly gay and rightwing Trancer), one of the Trancer ringlingers from the OF forums (and who went by several names on Twitter I've forgotten). Although he scrubbed his profile on this site by now, I distinctly remembered him mentioning a key detail on MMO-champion: he's Scottish. So i dug through the wayback machine and lo and behold:

Graeham aka Theodric is a Scot.png
I remember correctly. Also, back to the "blonde male avatar" part, well wouldn't you know, as Theodric/Graeham has always had a thing for blonde males:

Theodric Forum Sig.png

See his forum sig below his post, that was his FFXIV character, whom he RP'd as a Garlean, even wrote a whole RP page about his bisexual Garlean OC years ago:

Theodric aka Graeham's Gay Garlean OC.png

Well I think that settles it then. After getting permabanned from the forums he became a terminally online social media tard seething about Venat, and then started that jewtube channel to try and grift with AI-generated XIV drama videos, even dipping into far-right politics (though he was always openly supportive of American right-wing politics / pro-white activism despite being a literal Scottish faggot, not sure how how intends to help ensure a future for the white-race while he's busy taking dick up his poophole, or why he's so concerned about Amerimutt politics while living in Europe).

Anyway, sadly for him, he did not cover his tracks as well as he thought. Tho, I'm curious how his subscribers feel after learning this "based" women who shat on the trannies was, ironically, a man larping as a woman (much like trannies).

" we know you fuckers all used mare anyways so we don't care anymore"

Yeah the glamour restriction lifting was a win, but the patch looks mostly meh:

* msq suggests we're going to krile's parents' home world the ice planet,

* doomtrain (wings will probably have raidroad crossing signs I guess),

* conclusion to the raid series (how much do you bet the final boss will be someone like vince mcmahon?), savage delayed because raidtrannies are fortunate enough to have families that can tolerate them at christmas.

* lolcosmicexploration, i got bored with the last one

* a mini-update to OC with 3 new jobs and accessories, hopefully this will make Forked Tower active again right? and still no normal mode,

* some raid planner thing nobody will use since people use raidplan or watch hector guides,

* housing updates delayed once again because apparently a fake house consumes more cpu power than cryptomining

* another variant dungeon tuned more to the midcore

* another onsal-like frontline at the fat lizard mountain.

* ohno still no ultimate, well anyway... that's it

Wait whats a "trancer"?
There was once a discord formed from an OF thread seething about EW's MSQ, that got named after some comic called "Zodiark Trance", full of insane fags seething about Venat being LITERALLY HITLER in Endwalker. Hence trancers.

It's been brought up in the thread here before:

Ah, I didn't see someone already posted the comic. This reminds me of when that one anon infiltrated the discord of the guy who created this comic (they formed out of the Lackuster Story in Endwalker thread originally), and exposed them as a group of faggots and trannies who raid not just the official forums, but other websites, including reddit, twitter and 4chan in attempts to "correct" people who disagreed that Venat was literally hitler incarnate. Like if any random person anywhere on the internet simply said "I like venat and think she did nothing wrong" they would swiftly be swarmed by the Trancercord and dogpilled. They'd even go as far as to mass-report people on the OF forums to get them banned for disagreeing with them, they'd dig through your post history to find some instance of you swearing or some other bannable offense and mass-report, literally because you didn't agree that Venat=Bad.

I managed to find the original expose in a /xivg/ thread, warning it's a gigantic read:

I think after this expose the discord link was dropped in the thread and people from /xivg/ raided their discord until they were forced to shut it down. I'm not really sure what's happened to them since then but they seemed to have largely died off since I don't see the Lackluster Endwalker Story thread (their personal base of operations there) get bumped over on the OF forums these days.

I don’t know why but I find it interesting that the patch 7.4 art only has characters from the Arcadion raids but none from the msq itself. I wonder if SE is aware that the Arcadion raids are a lot more well liked than DT’s actual msq or even they are tired of DT. Though yet again I’m probably over imagining things.

Am I alone in not being excited for this?

Just feels like they're going to get even lazier with gear moving forward and would not be shocked if the next expansion dropped Class artifact gear and just switched to Role Gear.

It's going to be weird seeing artifact gear on classes they don't belong to.

Behold, a White Mage.

No.

This is clearly a "break the glass, player count is down" reaction after the modding/Mare debacle, and further undermines the idea of distinct class gear designs even more than all the shitty modern clothing glams they've been shoving into the game for years. Tanks in WHM AF robes, PCTs in tank armor... o tempora, o mores.

The level restriction removal is fine though, IMO. If you have a pile of glam gear for one category, like Maiming or whatever, from having one such job at max and are levelling another Maiming job, I think it's fine to be able to glam over even with higher level gear than what you can wear at that time.

Why is the trial doomtrain when we've already done it in stormbringers? lazy!

Also this glamour change is silly and basically an admission class identity is dead and never coming back. I didn't mind combat jobs being restricted, they only had to remove restrictions from crafter/gatherer gear and maybe the jobs that used the same-but recoloured gear like drg/tank generics. If there was any copium left for class identity coming back with reworks in the next xpac, that should be the nail in the coffin for it.
