I honestly think this is a good thing, not just for the mod beasts and gay ass nightclubs and erpers.
I think FF14 modders have become incredibly entitled brats with the freedom they have been given by SE, and they need to be put back in place.
If there was a peace treaty between modders and devs, I'd consider it broken when mods started selling for $50+ (not customs, just for the DL links) and people started whining about mod ownership for their special snowflake modbeasts that were just ripped assets from another game.
Agree. SE was gracious enough to let them mod as long as it didnt affect other experiences or the game directly. That said i would argue the Mare mod affected my experience of the game by just existing that im glad it was taken down. Modders for this game misunderstood the the message and maybe thought they could run rampant, unimpeded yet all they have to do is to keep shit to themselves yet they started to spread their plague in the form of pictures, invitations or just monetizing from the mod. I hope there's some retard crashing out now about losing their source of income and if it was their sole income then even better. Honestly i hope SE becomes more strict with those types of mods. Finally im not against them nuking fflogs if they implement their own system, but since that hasnt happened im happy coexisting with FFlogs.

I don't think it will replace FFlogs, since it seems their meter will only reflect your own personal dps and not the groups. I may be wrong on that, but they have been very ban happy on people who openly complain about other peoples numbers before, so I think FFLogs will stay the dominant course and it will only be used by console players.

Besides, FFLogs gives them shiny stickers for exploiting fight mechanics and timing windows. You can't deprive someone their little stickers! How else can they value their own existence?

In general, I'd really fully support SE slapping more cease and desists on some of the key larger mod communities.
Don't get me wrong, I like a mod here and there to tweak some things, but there's a line that was crossed and rapidly been over exploited since SHB-EW.

So apparently there was already a Mare clone made some time ago called Loporrit, which was made in response to Mare banning users who used pedo mods. Don't ask me what those looked like, I did not want to throw myself into the abyss this early in the morning.

Anyways, naturally very desperate users are flocking to Loporrit, while the calmer ones urge people not to get involved with it and wait for a proper replacement.
Kind of a shame that what allegedly got Mare dinged was a system that banned pedos from using their platform among other people, but modders had it coming for not even practicing basic precautions about breaking TOS and charging 50 dollars for unoptimized broken 3d models that only work on catgirls and might be ripped directly from Infinity Nikki or Lost Ark. Now ERPers have to use their imaginations or log out, and paid modders will lose business since the mods are only client side now.

Lol didnt modbeast faggots clog one of the La Noscea zones on Materia with their gooner modded catgirls and Au Ra's for weeks? I was surprised they didnt intervene and shut the event down since Mare has pushed modding culture far beyond "don't ask, don't tell", but sending a C&D to the Mare Dev would nip all of that in the bud.

Yep, that's another prevailing theory right now as to what prompted the C&D -- this particular incident resulted in new players unable to zone into Eastern La Noscea and basically boiled down to disruptive play. Add onto the fact that you were having zipbombs (a term Mare users use when referring to people with a stupid amount of graphical 'enhancements' and a hilarious term given Square's JP ONRY roots) and it was an absolute mess.

This is apparently the guy who set up the event.

Tweet about things spiraling out of control. Interesting to note how much data transfer spiked on the Mare servers. I don't know if that would have corresponding issues on SE's servers. If so, no wonder they tracked these bozos down.

Apology tweet.

And (potential NSFW for comically oversized ttis) this is a screenshot example of what was going on there.

I'm not able to archive at the moment, but will when I have some time later. If anyone wants to archive the above, feel free.

I'm also noticing, snooping around on Twitter, that there's a lot of XIV users with 'parody account' in their info now. Is this something new due to the Mare fallout?

It adds up as to why Penumbra and Glamourer are seemingly ok, but Mare and PlayerScope aren't.

I've been wondering about that. if SE really wanted to kill addons all they have to do is C&D Dalamud and the entire FFXIV modding community as it currently exists is destroyed in a single stroke. idk if they have actual legal grounds to do that or what the deal is here, but it seems very conspicuous to me that Mare is the only one that got struck, given that it's an addon specifically for sharing mods. it brings to mind the way IP enforcement orgs go after torrent trackers, the specific charge being that they facilitate the sharing of copyrighted material. a lot of FFXIV mods are asset rips from other games. make's u think.

I'm convinced it is because of UID, it is now not possible to see anymore since pretty much everything was deleted on the mare discord, but the creator of mare once said that he "had a way" to stop people from circumventing bans by using alts. It's pretty clear now that he was using UID to detect the banned account from mare and that's why he received a cease and desist like playerscope.

if SE really wanted to kill addons
I'm still not convinced that SE actually does want to police modding. I'm gonna place my bet: The whole debacle with steam getting debanked by payment processors over NSFW shit has probably spooked a lot of game companies.

However unlikely the risk, SE isn't retarded enough to let a threat like that come anywhere remotely close to their cash cow- So they take an action that will remove what might draw attention from those same anti-NSFW groups, and C&D the most recognizable perpetrator of FFXIV degeneracy. They're probably hoping this will be enough to scare off people using their game and IP to do similar things.

Bit of a tangent, but the Glamourer dev wanted to add a restriction where you can't wear glams you don't own, including cash shop, but the community threw a fit so it was backtracked. Mare syncing Glamourer appearances made it, technically, a way to "pirate" cash shop glamour items.

>retards not practicing good modding or even texture editing etiquette and treating their game like a bloated skyrim install with pointlessly large textures and models might've killed Mare
>people actually were retarded enough to consent to downloading and syncing said "zipbombs" on the offchance they saw some hawt catgirl (male) poon

I want this to be true, it sounds too good and ironic but i want to believe

Yeah, I think the UID thing is why they got canned. Remember when Square overhauled the blacklist system and it started sending account IDs to the client which let you figure out their alts? They changed that shit immediately.

Japan has an insane problem with stalking so I'm not surprised they take it seriously.

I honestly don't know what kind of stress, if any, Mare would have on SE's servers (if any at all, as I understand Mare had their own servers) but I figured I'd share what I was hearing.

But yes, it would be great if big titty catgirl (guy in real life) was what ended up nuking it for these retards.

Gonna be honest, Never understood some peoples obsession over being stalked in FF14 or why they freak out over it. They can't do shit. Had it happen to me a few times, and I think it still happens since my account is manually updated/checked on external databases even though I don't play. Never bothered me.

Always felt like people making a mountain out of an anthill sort of deal, the kinda people who get upset if you stand under them ingame because it's taken as some sort of slight.

Mare was basically used by a lot of people to make their characters into creatures, and was only roughly 20-50k of the population at a given time. Killing Dalamud would literally ruin any PC copy that doesn't live in Japan or next to the data centers. There are people who I know that are normal, everyday players that has to use noclippy or Alexander to play jobs, and they stated they will just straight up stop playing if that ever stops working. Crashing Dalamud would basically drop a very much larger PC population than Mare getting killed.
