22.1bn Yen is only like 1m player-months of FFXIV subs. I don't think it's a serious problem for them.

I know FFXVI is also considered anemic in terms of sales.
3 million units in the first week is nothing to scoff at, especially for a PS5 exclusive. FF7R sold 3.5m as a PS4 exclusive despite the nostalgia factor. FF15 sold 5m on PS4+Xbox One.

For comparison, Elden Ring sold 13.4mn copies in a month, of which 3.64mn in 10 months on the PS5.

They were expecting more is my understanding.

Well, so for FY 2023, they had about 317bn Yen in net assets. So this loss is about 6.9% of that, which really is not a paltry sum. It's not fatal, no, but it's not good. Coupled with a warning issued therein, too: "Net sales and operating income in the Digital Entertainment segment totaled ¥245,548 million (a decrease of 12.2% from the prior fiscal year) and ¥41,253 million (a decrease of 30.0% from the prior fiscal year), respectively."
How much of that is losses from the magic negress game that sold 3 copies?
None of it - it's losses from cutting unreleased titles. Probably because Forspoken did so poorly. It did get a shout-out in that FY document:
At the HD (High-Definition) Game sub-segment, the fiscal year ended March 31, 2023 saw the
release of “CRISIS CORE -FINAL FANTASY VII- REUNION,” “FORSPOKEN,” and “OCTOPATH TRAVELER
II.” However, because new titles generated lower earnings than in the previous year, which had seen
the launch of “OUTRIDERS,” “NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139...,” and “Marvel’s Guardians of the
Galaxy,” the sub-segment’s net sales declined versus the previous fiscal year.

These studios always do this shit, Capcom pulled the same "poor sales" garbage when DMC5 sold over 5 million, they expect it to sell like FIFA when it's a relatively niche genre.

It doesn't help that each iteration of the PS has less games worth playing than the last and after the absolute trashfire that was 15 (remember to watch the movie, the live action musical, read the manga and buy the japan exclusive 7/11 cup noodles to understand what the fuck the story is about) I can't imagine very many people bought a console solely to play 16.

We'll see when it comes to PC, it might get good sales there assuming the port isn't absolute dogshit.

Yeah, but they expect those sales and budget for them.
That's what causes them to lose money at those levels.

remember this is the same company that sold 5 million of the tomb raider reboot and then claimed "underperformed expectations". also fucking thi4f.
squeenix is just flat out retarded most of the time.

I want to get into DR Savage so badly but I just haven't had the time.

I want to get into DR Savage so badly but I just haven't had the time.
That's the issue isn't it.
DRS and the ultimates are extremely long without long-term or even short-term checkpoints.
It's part of what makes them difficult, but it by nature locks out busy people.

I've wanted for the longest time to do both HoH and the new deep dungeon to get the mounts there for clearing but just going through a few floors takes hours. Hours that I do not have or only have a finite amount on weekends. I lack friends to speed run me through as well.

Orthos I was able to do and I'm working on POTD. I still want to do HoH at some point before Dawntrail.

The only way I got through Orthos was to treat it like raid. Me and three other guys would meet on a specific day at a specific time and run until we wanted to stop.

I'd offer to help but I'm a bit leery of opsec.

Aether. Unless something has changed since I gave up a long time ago.
I know I'm late to this, but Aether still does DRN. Just make a PF if there isn't one up and it'll fill fairly quick unless it's dead hours. The best time to do DRN is within a few days after the reset because many people still do their weekly.

Also, I recommend 5-man PFs for speed clears.

I finally wrapped up post-EW too. The writing was absolutely shonenshit tier, but at least I never felt like it shat the bed, it just told a self-contained story from start to finish. When I saw the bloodborne OC doughnut steel character Zero she made me roll my eyes so hard it almost did a 360, but her autism slowly grown on me. And I'll never say this ever again, but the furry was fine too. It looks like we're off to a whole new place so I hope they can start telling the new story without too much powercreep. Also I kinda hate how generic PlanSolution Nine looks, but there's not much I can say about it besides that.

Finally got my 60 pvp wins and got the Ringa mount, crystaline conflict was pretty quick and enjoyable, but it feels like they force a 50% win rate with casual mode
