Do you guys think danwtrail will help solve the issues that the game currently has or will it hinder the game more?
To fix the 2 minute rotation you’d have to completely rebalance all the jobs, which would require a lot of time and effort to make each one either feel unique and/or make sure none of them suffer from being too underpowered or overpowered. I’m normally optimistic but I don’t feel that way here.

I think there'll be some shake-ups in the game's formula but 'solve' is a big ask... If you look at the playerbase in aggregate, expectations run the gamut from, "we want you to just turn this into FFXI" to "we want XIV to be the PVE version of a competitive fighting game." The playerbase is too large and diverse for the game to do anything without upsetting a big chunk of it.

We also just have issues of evolving expectations. CBU3 moves slowly and is conservative in their design (often a good thing), so realistically they're probably making changes that the community was talking about 2+ years ago. The problem is - the stuff people wanted 2+ years ago is not necessarily what they want today.

Honestly, the game is in a healthy place right now. Despite the doom and gloom, it's still pulling in more players than it did during the Shadowbringers lull before 5.5. You have to start realistically asking - who's left to get into XIV? Because pretty much everyone in the target live-service/MMO/animu demo is either playing it or has played it and made a conscious choice not to continue. Obviously fortunes can change quickly but unless we see something like a 75% decline in people coming back to play Dawntrail, I'd expect changes to be very surface level. There'll be new content types and perhaps a more experimental story, not too many changes to the underlying combat system (other than 2min being jettisoned because it's paradoxically made things harder to balance).

Am I the only one in the thread who thinks Picomancer is cool? I just think it looks cool with the aesthetic. I think they wanted to experiment with different graphical effects and give it like a very distinct style apart from everything else.
I am also extremely biased in that I really wish that I could draw and paint because I really do honestly love real art.

I like the idea of the painter but the aesthetics kinda look stale. It’s a huge juxtaposition in the art style. Yeah, we have over the top silly shit but it’s also kept in the same aesthetics. It’ll just be a elemental spell caster with some summons, but I’ve been wrong before.

It could honestly change. But I'm more interested in it's playstyle.
Red mage was the only caster on my main and even though I loved red mage as a job in other games, in 14 it's gameplay is extremely stale and boring. It is the easiest job in the game to play and has become synonymous with awful parties. Somehow, despite being the easiest job in the game, I still see people play it the worst.

It also still has the worst fucking LB in the game. Honestly, after all these years, they still can't change it to where it doesn't look like a massive fucking flashbang that covers the entire floor in such obnoxiously bright colors that people can't see attack markers.

I think the red mage implementation is okay for the most part. The only issues I have is that red mage in other FF games including 11 was more of a buff job that could stand for itself. If you have to run content that requires people to join you in duties then the identity is stripped down in favor of bigger damage and flashier spells. The LB, visually, is a war crime.

Nah, that's summoner now. Much to my chagrin.

I don't hate the core idea of new summoner but it's so fucking barebones right now. It's also extremely goofy in how it handles spell speed.

Kinda wondering if I should just go ahead and grab a Story Skip for my character; I mean, I did already go all the way through Endwalker on my previous character, so going through the whole game again does seem a bit redundant. That said, they did update a few missions in ARR, Heavensward is a really solid expansion, Stormblood is also decent - though not without a few issues, admittedly - while Shadowbringers... meh.

Anyone got suggestions?

Personally, I wouldn't spend any money but if money isn't an issue for you then I don't see why not.
There's always New Game+ if you want to experience MSQ stuff anyway.

There also shouldn't be a rush for you to get back into the game at this point because of the lull. I know there's a patch coming on the 16th but it's probably very small and not worth spending the extra money for a skip imo.

Summoner is such a lobotomised version of itself that I'm insulted that it even made it into the game in its current iteration, and I don't consider myself a summoner main by any means. (Always stuck to the scholar side of things.)

I like the class since i play a similar class in Lost Ark and had fun with it plus i like artsy stuff and i enjoy painting, so it hits all the right buttons for me. My only gripe would be how will it actually play and how will it feel when i get my hands on it. Im optimistic but im also realistic that it just may be black mage with a paint brush.

The cast times don't look nearly as long as BLM. Cast time is probably similar to RDM.

I am still holding out hope it is some sort of DoT/debuffer so it can cause things to melt, I don't know or care how it would fit in duh balance, I just know it would be different.
