Dawntrail Full Trailer for those that want it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbqbtRsZzh4

TBH, bit torn on this. I mean, part of me is a bit interested in seeing where the story goes at this point; the two new classes do look pretty interesting, the female Hroth does look a bit... off, though at least they finally added the damn thing, I am curious about the new areas and such, and seeing how the devs are going to be going from "fighting the personification of despair at the very edge of the universe" to what is basically "the Road to El Dorado".

At the same time though... I admit, I've been pretty burnt out on FFXIV as of late. I mean, I'm still having fun, but the post-patch content of Endwalker, coupled with the insane community, really has been a bit of a mood-killer as of late. The fact that the Endwalker MSQ - though is it my favorite - still has a large chunk of plot holes and such that have yet to be properly developed or resolved, the entire Void story getting crammed into the post-MSQ quests, and even the fact that Endwalker's finale really does feel like... well, a solid enough end to the overall story, does make me wonder if I should keep playing.

I dunno, I just feel... lukewarm to the game, right now.

I feel fine.
I take enough breaks where I don't feel burnt out and I am very much a "go in, enjoy what I want and then bounce" kind of person.

And maybe I'm secretly really happy that they added in fem hroth.

I wasn't expecting anything and somehow I'm still disappointed with the announcements. We got confirmed that the same thing we already have we'll be getting more of. No shit we get new dungeons and raids. There's a bunch of graphical updates that are so minor you wouldn't know there was any difference unless someone told you. Pictomancer is probably the only bit of new information but since it has to fit into the same mold as every other job in the game you can pick any caster that's already in the game and get the same experience. Maybe there are people that care about the environments. It's alright but outside of the one time people play MSQ you'll never see it again unless you do hunts. I do think it's kind of funny that as more of the world map gets revealed how much it is blatantly a map of earth. Amerimutts finally get an expansion. Cosmic exploration might be something fun but it's hard to tell if it's a new thing or a rebrand of island sanctuaries. It sounds like mini Ishgard restoration that changes every patch which I hope isn't true because it means its not evergreen content. Femhroths looks weird I think because they have this halfway between a human jaw and a snout. I think the males were done better but they're pretty much what I expected them to look like.

I'm still walking away from this wondering what's supposed to get me excited? Maybe field operations will be cool, I did like Bozja. But ultimately the game is like 90% combat, and it's going to be the same combat we've had since Shadowbringer. We obviously didn't learn any lessons about button bloat despite needing several reworks. They're going to shoehorn in more updates to every job whether they need it or not, continuing the cycle of shitting them up until they need to be scrapped. There's obviously no plans to change how they approach encounters, how jobs are meant to interact with each other, the pacing of combat or anything. This will be another expansion of business as usual. Play it because you feel obligated at this point. If you're an xbox fanboy maybe this is exciting because it'll be your first time playing. I guess for someone brand new the game is fine.

They ruined the Fem. Viera nose. RIP.

Am not watching because sickness, but have been grabbing crumbs of information to get a feel for what's coming.

Pictomancer sounds fun, but it not being Green Mage is kinda sad.
Fem. Hrothgars seem to be just Fem. Roegadyns with a mane and muzzle honestly. I guess they kept that up from guy Hroths.

FFXI AR sounds swell.

Field Operations returning... meeh. Eureka was terrible (for my taste), and Bozja too reliant on people existing in the zone. Might have to play it as soon as it drops so that it won't feel as painful.

Was there not going to be another Job? Completely forgot what it was and no one is mentioning it.

Female Catpeople look like something that lesbos and troons will play.

The cyberpunk city looks cool af tho.

Troons I could see. Lezzos? Eeeh I dunno. Most of the lebians I've seen are either standard miqo fare or some type of futa viera/au ra. Actually now that I think about it, I don't think I've seen many butch lesbians if any at all.

I still like them even though I'm none of those. Although now if people call me a furry I don't have a strong argument against that to my chagrin other than "I'm not, I just think they're cool."

Edit: I forgot that they announced Beastmaster as the new limited job.

Viper, it's a twin blade melee DPS class. That was an old announcement though. They didn't bring it up again because there's no new information.
Thanks!

Similar sentiment, but I'd never Fantasia to one. I do wish they turned out to be lioness Vieras/tall Miqo'te though, if only to troll the very loud, annoying crowd screaming against "dainty" races.

I also heard that for people on twitter are angry at picto because they were jebaited into believing it was green mage and it wasn't. is that true? I haven't checked.

pictomancer is gay as hell, of all the things they could have picked - geomancer, chemist, time mage, evoker, oracle, magus/warlock, idk fuckin void mage - they picked art mage, the job with the least thematic swag of all of them, whose origin in the franchise is a literal child who draws magic pictures. it's nothing more than a single attack command in its original form in FF6, and a hybrid support job in its only other incarnation, Bravely Default II. none of that screams "ranged magic DPS" to me, but I suppose it fits, because in my opinion, black mage is the only caster DPS in the game approaching a fully realized job, since red mage and summoner are both shamefully neutered versions of their core concepts. now pictomancer gets to join them as a bastard half-functional version of its real form.

maybe I'm just being cynical, but it seems to me that FFXIV is entering its stagnation era hard with this one. their efforts to innovate on content have ended in almost total failure, all the shit they advertised as leading features of Dawntrail are just slightly different versions of archetypal game features. deep dungeons are just dungeons with less variety and a small added mechanic layer. field operations are just more FATE grinding. space exploration - a concept that has literally infinite possibilties - is just Ishgard Restoration but with loporrits this time. even the new zones look pretty uninteresting outside of the cyberfuture area. even the graphical update fell short - after all this time and bitching about how they were literally redoing the entire graphics engine, all they added was some postprocessing? they added some extra geometry to the player faces and fixed up their features, but all they did to the gear was up the texture resolution? this part really had me in disbelief:

bro what the hell is this Skyrim tier shit??? this game isn't made for the PS3 anymore, we can do shit like higher quality AO and subsurface scattering but we can't get higher resolution meshes? FFXIV has a dev team of ~300 that expands and contracts as necessary. its revenue has been a persistent driver of SE's earnings and almost definitely represents their highest individual earner by far. why the fuck do they still develop this game like it's made by a handful of beleaguered retards operating on a shoestring budget. start enfolding new staff now, so that by the time they're on board and effective, you can start pouring more features into the expansion after this one and actually get some shit done instead of this slow trickle of samey, underwhelming bullshit that makes it seem like they're straining at the absolute edge of their resources.

green mage is what a bunch of retards on youtube thought it was going to be and it was always the most retarded guess. green magic is a barely existent magic classification that exclusively enfolds shit like Protect, Shell, Bubble, etc., which are too far outside FFXIV's design paradigm to be used in general, much less as a basis for a magic DPS job. I also saw a few people guessing green mage would have some kind of nature-based abilities or something which is even more retarded.

Fanfest looks cool; I'll probably renew my sub when dawntrail begins, maybe even make a FC.

Picto was another contender due to the TMNT shirt Yoshi-P was wearing since the turtles were after famous renaissance artists. People thought it was Green Mage due to the turtles being green and having shells and the cutscene with the clover amulet.

I don't think people were jebaited, but when the community accepts a fan theory they treat it like gospel. Green mage would've been more interesting than pictomancer. My gripe with pictomancer is that it makes no sense. Even for a spell caster the connection between painting in the air and turning it into an act makes no sense. From the trailer it looks like splatoon where you mostly end up throwing paint at something. I play with limited spell effects so I'll never see it anyways. I want something more than another DPS job that only spits damage. We heard the same thing with DNC and RDM that they'd be hybrid support jobs, and all that means is you might have a weak cure and the same raid buff every other DPS job has every 2 minutes. Except this time you don't even get a res. On top of that Beastmaster is going to be a limited job, which means like BLU it will never be a compatible job that is fully realized and can be brought into actual content. God forbid we have anything unique or different that might disrupt the perfect balance of the game.

When they first announced dawntrail, i thought that something like a shaman or green mage would be a caster class. From what i remember in tactics, green mage mostly gave buffs or protections, which then led me to think that it would be stupid to add green mage to the game considering what it generally does. Thing is that Job classes work in their own medium, but when put into ff14, they have to be changed in order to accommodate it to the game in such way that it wont break it or so lackluster that it ends up just taking space. Although im surprised that people went ham with the idea of green mage considering the class wouldnt do much in any class and to add it to ff14 would mean to change it, to at which point it wouldnt be green mage thus defeating the purpose of a class identity(which imo the game lacks)

You can absolutely educate the majority of your playerbase to reach a baseline of competence (it is higher in 14 than gw2, you figure that one out),
Among MMO playerbases, XIV's is unironically probably near the top in terms of average player ability. This isn't high praise for XIV but rather just the absolute state of MMO players in general. Bitch all you want about hugboxes and GCBTW - gamer dad casuals who can't do Mythic 0 and are scared of LFR are the bulk of the playerbase in WoW. And it's like that in most MMOs.

XIV has just done the bare mininum by enforcing some barebone standards of ability required to get to level cap - group content is mandatory, you have to do level synced solo content (there are people who fail these even on Very Easy echo mode), and there's a lot of story to get through. Very few MMOs do that nowadays (or ever did if we're being honest about the timesink MMOs of yore), because you need an insanely wide net to grow a playerbase large enough to fund these hellgames.

We obviously didn't learn any lessons about button bloat despite needing several reworks
We will not hear anything about system changes until like March. Pretty much every expansion gets a mega live letter about system updates before launch. For example, we didn't know about 2 min meta until a month before Endwalker and we didn't know about the removal of TP until a month before Shadowbringers.

FFXIV has a dev team of ~300 that expands and contracts as necessary. its revenue has been a persistent driver of SE's earnings and almost definitely represents their highest individual earner by far. why the fuck do they still develop this game like it's made by a handful of beleaguered retards operating on a shoestring budget
Because that's how SE operates - functionally project socialism. XIV needed massive cash infusions when it was shitting itself so now it is now doomed to fund and provide devs for every other shitty project SE is pushing out these days. Until Yoshi-P takes over the entire company, CBU3 will continue to be underfunded and overextended. And in some hypothetical reality where Yoshi-P takes complete control, he's just going to remake Ultima Online with an FF coat of paint rather than continuing to work on The Great Compromise that is FF14.

Anyway, on the topic of Fanfest - it's about what I expected. The cyberpunk shit makes me feel like XIV's story is going to go into some insane deep-fried gacha territory which would honestly be a breath of fresh air - FF Lostbelts or what have you. I'm still gonna preorder and play on launch but I'm not going to get too hyped. There's too much other good shit to play these days outside of the MMO space for me to devote all my mental energies to hyping up XIV when I could just play it like a normal game and stay out of the muck.

You've got areas that are very tribalistic and rustic, stone and wood heavy, usually in warm colors. Then on the complete other end of the spectrum you have super techno heavy areas with advanced civilizations with dark colors
Well, the thing takes place in totally-not-mexico, that screencap is just Mexico city.

Really it's only missing the coca cola and taco adverts every 2 feet.

Do you guys think danwtrail will help solve the issues that the game currently has or will it hinder the game more?
