I have a bad feeling that Crystal is gonna evolve into something worse during the upcoming seasonal event. considering how horny and ERP hungry people can be when some people openly chat about very dubious things.

Even hinting that the game's story is less than stellar is usually enough to rile folks up.

If you wanted to go for troll bait, start saying how it doesn't compare to Harry Potter and watch them go apoplectic.

I always report that shit if I see it out in the wild. I don't care if the GMs do anything about it or not. If I have to suffer reading that garbage, they do too.

I saw one guy who admitted on the forums that he felt that Shadowbringer's story was "overhyped" - not anywhere close to being bad, but that it wasn't quite the "perfect story" that the fanbase always gushed about - and that he personally preferred Heavensward and Endwalker over it. He wasn't exactly being a dick about it, either; he was trying to be polite and stated that both of his favorites had problems and weren't perfect, he just liked them more for personal reasons.

The amount of raw hatred the guy got was... insane, to put it nicely.

That's exactly it. My server's NN has more than a couple of troons and non-troon broke-brained people who fly into a tizzy if anything remotely 'political' comes up. Some folks will just randomly put "Daily reminder that JKR is a FASCIST BIGOT!!!111111111" or have a meltdown if someone brings up that new game.

Just talk about Harry Potter in comparison to XIV's story. Don't ever mention JKR. Watch them start seething and dilating.

This shit right here is exactly what I mean when I said something to the effect of "any little overly specific thing can send hyper-snowflake autists into a frothing tardrage".

I should've specified that you don't even have to dig around or guess at what that specific thing might be. These spergs will often throw tantrums about it completely unprompted, because these are the type of people who sit around all day and like to imagine something or someone to be upset at... And then they'll get vocally, exceptionally upset about it. Usually for validation from their enablers.

There's a personal lolcow I've sort of been keeping tabs on for a while. But he's a pretty egregious version of what you're talking about. Someone was talking about Korean music and adding a BTK hairstyle (????? I'm a boomer, I have no idea if that just made sense) and about 5 minutes later it had devolved into some bizarre diatribe about North Korea and "well ackshullay" shit.

It's not hard to rile them up, even about the most innocuous stuff.

I think its just them trying to drum up anything to be 'traumatic' or horrifying. I've met one schmuck who acted like the torture scene in the Weapon storyline was too much for them that they get triggered. I didn't know what they were referring to then eventually saw it. It's mildly creepy but the motherfucker's haircut destroys my sides.
 
Speaking of XIV’s story a good way to piss off mmorpg boomers is to praise it in their presence. This is especially effective with XI fans for obvious reasons. What’s ironic about XI players shit talking about XIV white knights is that back during XI’s peak these same people acted the exact same way with their favorite game. I remember seeing XI fans blowing up on message boards back in the day if you criticized it.

I'll probably wind up resubbing mildly soon, blow through the story content, feel unsatisfied thereby, and then get frustrated with the community again and hop off. That idea of a new-er DC is appealing to me to get away from Crystal, but it just sounds like something soon enough to fall to the insufferables again.

I remember some mild reeing about Godbert because he doesn't believe in handouts ignoring the fact that he's one of the more sensible Syndicate members and he's a job creator.

I don't know why, but I have the vague image in my head that someone might've argued in regards to that once that Godbert's basically running slave labor that he pays for in his useless Chuck E. Cheese tokens.

The only one who does that is Rowena, she literally pays in scrips.

Scrips which you then use to get/make better gear to work more efficiently, it's diabolic really.

Godbert pays his employees in actual money but inexplicably seems to run a no-loss casino that intentionally hires refugees and the downtrodden. All while he's naked and doing weird meme shit.

From what I've read - someone mentioned this a while back, so forgive me if it's wrong - Godbert's whole schtick is that he wants to make a place where everyone can have some escapism from time-to-time; given how Eorzea is, he's wanting to make a place where both adventurers can relax and unwind, and provide some form of employment for the refugees.

I have a few pet theories about that :
-Rowena is mostly present in relic weapon quests, doing these takes time, time "fans" would have to take away from their twitter/forum screeching.
-Rowena being kind of an exploiting scumbag is mostly played for laughs, what with her having Gerolt on a leash (and the item tooltip on the commercial manuals), considering the level of emotional intelligence of the stereotypical twitter/forum fan sits squarely at, at times, needing their media to outright tell them how to feel about a scene, well, you can see how they would not have much of an opinion.
-Last but not least : Rowena is a brown woman.
