It’s amusing going back to posts in this thread from 2-3 years ago and watching people slowly soften up or become more positive over time about more controversial stories like Stormblood and Endwalker and even soften up on more controversial pre Dawntrail characters because Dawntrail and its cast was that bad.

I still think Zero is gay and a wasted slot. And the entirety of the Thirteenth's potential was wasted in post-xpac patch quests.

I have yet to do the patch content for Dawntrail because I just don't fucking care about the cast of South American retards.

I really hope they beat the writers until something better gets written for the next expac.

It's honestly amazing they couldn't just let Wuk Lamat go 'maybe I shouldn't be in charge just because I want to be' and let her weird cat brother be competent instead, it would have honestly made Dawntrail fine. Instead she gets what she wants because she's the main character and its all just worthless.

Great news there's only one patch that deigns to discuss anything in the main part of the Tacoverse. The rest is entirely locked in on S9.

You just have to drudge through probably one of the worst patches in the game (7.1), but on the bright side the rest of the patches doesn't suck that badly.

he's a lying faggot, he lies to you the entire time, the only time he's ever truly honest is when he opens up to you in Elpis, and when he's quite literally fading away.

"Are these the answers.. that I was hoping for?" that's HERMES speaking, its the CORE of his soul, if he truly felt he was nothing more than Amon now, he'd be happy that the answer is universal omnicide, giving Xande exactly what he wanted, instead he's full of despair and dread that he thinks his devils advocate turned out correct and life is doomed.
The entire speech is an internal monologue he says to himself as he's dying he's quite literally unable to lie to us as we can't hear or act on any of what he says, it's there for the audience and nothing else.

You mean you didn't like a Yellow quest being MSQ? How dare you!

no I did not like what the plot showed us as the smartest non-scion character in the setting try to throw away his life to save a fucking buffalo.
Not only that but you have to sit through a drawn out fight after he pack bonds with a fucking bovid. If it didn't force you to stand their smacking at that dinosaur it wouldn't be as loathsome.

Ms. Dick and I have officially begun playing together on my computer (based SE letting you run two instances). Framerate dies if either of us go fullscreen (or even slightly larger than the smallest window size), but it's fun so far. We just hit 15 and are ready for Fashion Fantasy.

What did the two of you go for in terms of classes? If you went as a tank and healer combo you'll have crazy fast dungeon queues. It'll make for light work of things as you go.

I took tank and she took a mage, but we both don't mind supporting roles.

Tanking classes are enjoyable to me. Not as fun as they used to be but you'll have an easier time figuring them out. Once you've gotten the hang of one you'll get the general gist of the others just with some small permutations.

You guys think raiding/hardcore raiding ruined FF14 designs for hard content and or general design for bosses?

just remember you can be every class on one character, so you don't have to be married to w/e you are thinking of, and there are a ton of options.
the story starts bland, but it ramps up, do not look up spoilers.

The game design of FF14 ruined boss design.

There's only so many different ways you can combine knockbacks, stack markers, and so on while funneling every single class into some version of a 2-minute burst window while having the same core design for dungeons, variant dungeons, open world content, trials, normal raids, EX trials, and savage raids. It has to be repackaged a specific way too because every dungeon, base trial, and alliance raid is reused as leveling content and needs to be near-instantly readable for players who don't often do <random level 95 dungeon>.

They pretty clearly want to avoid requiring tribal knowledge for specific encounters (aka that WoW Dungeon where you ride dragons that everyone hates) and really don't want to design around different gear/class disparities ever again.

It's fine to not want to be WoW, which has it's own problems with tribal knowledge and wild scaling issues - but they've been performing CPR on a corpse for ~3 expansions with the current combat design, which is why pretty much every new addition is just +potency, or extra button after existing button, and so on.

I'd argue specifically that the 2 minute meta is what has really fucking handcuffed them on design. How much variation is there in WoW encounter design? Legitimately asking because I haven't touched the game in years.

Having just returned from a brief stint in WoW, the encounter design is just a horrifying mess of poorly telegraphed attacks that very similar to 14's, just without the consistent design language. I was still stacking, spreading, soaking specific debuffs, ect. Honestly the only thing I didn't see was light party and clock spot mechanics, but it's just mostly a blur.

SE just need to ignore the cries of the parse brained retards and go back to having mechanics that force downtime, like tanks kiting adds around, random DPS being kidnapped to fight a random add, forcing some sort of crowd control mechanic (healers need to keep something asleep, otherwise it explodes), ect ect.

Now that I'm catching up to the current content, some of the newer fights are pretty fun, the Meso Terminal dungeon was interesting, especialy the second boss, and the trial afterwards was very fun.

I quite liked the M6S adds phase for actually involving something other than maintaining a 100% uptime rotation on a striking dummy while doing the in/out/stack/spread DDR - you had mob positioning, target priority, actually having to use CC abilities, etc. Individual and varied responsibilities for everyone. It was easily the most fun part of any fight in the Arcadion series, tbqh.

More of that, please, waiter.
