Has there been any talk of dropping MSQ requirements towards the next expansion?

I doubt I'll return anytime soon but if I do I dread the prospect of dragging myself through what remains of DT (stopped around the .2 patch)
As someone who loathed base expansion DT, the patches aren't that bad. Just ignore trooncat, preferably playing with weeb voices or get the mod that changes just Wuk Lamat's language to something other than the troon doing a fake hispanic accent.
The patch questlines are not too long, and Calyx is a big improvement compared to the blue lizard and endless Sphene.

Base dawntrail was a mess.
The boring ass dawnservant trial that took up half the expansion, having barely any relevance to the latter half.
Every established character suddenly being hit with the idiot stick so trooncat gets to take the lead.
Idiot villains who do barely anything even when they possess an army of futuristic robots and machines.
The world building for Alexandria being just plain confusing with the regulators who both manipulate memories and resurrect people killed, but does nothing for aging, oh and it does so using human souls harvested, but do not confuse this with feral souls which uses beast souls and transforms the user into a monster hybrid. Then you have dead memories turned into the endless, how does this work when it comes to the soul? Still no idea.
But do not confuse these endless for the endless turned into robots. Then the queen plans to strip the world of souls and aether to fuel the endless forever, even though this doesn't solve the replenishment problem and isn't sustainable. I don't get why we're supposed to sympathise with what's revealed to be a computer program trying to genocide infinite worlds to keep soulless husks immortal.

Patches at least make a bit more sense
Alexandrians are no longer protected from death because their memories of the dead are no longer wiped, there's no endless anymore, and almost all the reserve souls were wasted by the blue lizard.
This causes a rising mass hysteria among the populace.
Calyx wants your key of Azem, says he wants to overcome death, and seem to be stoking fear of death among Alexandria.
You explore ancient Alexandria to learn more about Calyx and his origins.
He sets a trap you're forced to spring if you want to defeat him.
The trap is a primal of death Calyx can summon using the fear of death from the Alexandrians.
Sphene weakens the primal with a speech to her people, Calyx is seemingly defeated, but survives by a thread and is obviously working with an Ascian.
It's not perfect, but better than the shitshow that was 7.0

Also finally, barely any trooncat in 7.4, finally free from the blackhole Mary sue. It's going to be painful when she inevitably shows up for the ending cutscene in 7.55. Hopefully God is merciful and she gets relegated to ruler purgatory.

I'm hoping for an offscreen "worry wok lmao could not make it because her ruler duties bla bla bla - she said have good travels and remember your time in tural (lollmao)"

Alternatively they still have time to make her explode in a shower of gore, I might even resub.

Decided to step back from XIV for a few months because I have fuck all to do in the game. Even the "magic" of no glam restrictions did little to entice me to keep playing. I don't take any delight in the game continuing to lose players, but if Yoshi continues to pretend they can lazily stick to their 4-5 months between patches and keep the game afloat, a stop to actual content will happen sooner rather than later. "Next 10 years" my hairy sheep ass.

On the subject of games that haven't been mined, X truly is the standout example. It feels like someone high up the chain (looking at you, Yoshi) is vehemently against including aspects of that game. They've tapped a few of the Aeons as bosses/fates (Ixion, Anima and Yojimbo), and now the midget people in DT, but other than that it's ripe for pluckin. Not sure why this has been the case outside it being saved for future exploitation... or my tin-foil hat theory that Yoshi fucking hates X lol

While they haven't drilled to the core of XIII, they have pulled from it considerably in the form of mobs throughout the expansions. I imagine before long they'll start pulling from XV as well, just not as blatantly. And there's a wealth of content they can steal from in spin-off games, I'd wager they try and pull from the likes of Crystal Chronicles or Bravely series at some point, if only for backdrops as they continue to fart out expansions. And given how the game has become this gross chimera of disjointed, tangentially related styles and concepts, I don't even fucking care if it makes no sense anymore. Go ahead and tap the corpse of the Mana series while they're at it, I'd enjoy a raid series or expac based on that. Fuck it, no balls.

For now, I'm just waiting to see what's next. Looks like 8.0 will just continue to milk IX until it's tapped dry, which I don't entirely hate. But they have to get better about the release cadence moving forward. In a world where F2P gacha chinaslop can put out entire "expansions" in a year or less, they cannot be taking 4 months to put out a single dungeon/trial. The diehards and lifers will stick around, but I don't see the game ever going past Shadowbringers popularity ever again.

I thought X was hugely popular in Japan, which might be why they're hanging onto it as a 'break glass in case of emergency' type situation, like with the more notable aspects of FF7 (Jenova, Sephiroth, etc.)

The other thing and @BruhSheep might be right, is that you kinda need Blitzball in some form or another if you're going to toss it into XIV, and the few times I've seen Yoshida get super animated is when he is vehemently arguing against Blitzball being put into the game.

There is also a lot of stuff that they can yank from XI. Yeah, the current 24 man is revolving around XI, but there is still a lot of shit they can incorporate if they were wanting to.

X is very hard to mine out because of the nature of it's plot, the nature of it's characters, and the fact that a lot of X was canonized in X-2.

I have no idea how you do it without a good Blitzball minigame either; or how you even approach it - do you have PCs be individual players or have it run with teams of NPCs? Is there PVP? And so on.

Blitzballer as a class woud be funny but interesting if they do it right
Didn't Yoshida explicitly come out and say he doesn't want it as either a job or a minigame? Could've sworn one of the few statements of him talking in English is him saying "NO BLITZBALL!" at fan fests.

I made mention to such in my post right before those 2. I believe it was in an interview he either had with Preach or MrHappy leading up to DT's release.

I'd take either Stranger of Paradise or FF16, personally. Yes, I'm aware that the former is an edgy fanfic prequel to the first game, and I got no idea what they'd even do with the latter.
There was already a 16 crossover with an Ifrit battle and various rewards, unless you meant more than that. Not sure what they could do, since every major encounter in that game is a variant of an existing primal.

Easy enough tbh. New shard, which features primals that coincidinkally resemble the XVI ones.

Canonized or not doesn't matter with how much they bastardized 9, X is not hard to farm for material. Stormblood was when they dipped their toes into this, with the Summoner and Abe fanfest gear, Ixion, Yojimbo and etc, they just never really leaned super hard into old game references back then like they have since shadowbringers.

As well as the whole underwater domes and swimming mechanic, which people were excited for Blitzball or for actual content related to being underwater just for it to be a (surprise!) thing that is added and then abandoned and never fleshed out like everything else and was only there to stretch out the distance you had to run from A to B for quests without being able to use a mount or fly. It was so underused the only thing underwater was underwater gather nodes which they almost instantly stopped doing until Island Sanctuary.
People seem to forget how HARD underwater was part of the advertising on the stormblood promo site and the preorder mount being an "underwater mount", just for it to be a giant nothing burger.

Ever since then I have held my grudge on these devs and their inability to do anything interesting ever with any idea they have and their almost fury/disdain at fans/players when asked about doing something interesting with a concept.

I get the impression they're extremely hesitant to yank from XI because that game is still alive (somehow), and XIV started life as basically a visual update on the concept of XI (mankind versus the "beastmen"). But since XIV is creatively bankrupt, fuck it. Start pulling stuff from XI, too.

Just make content with the games they're taking from. People want stuff to do, but CBU3 continues to act like it has to make some sort of sense to be included. I wish they'd drop the pretense given that anywhere you walk in the game world now has such a clash of thematic inconsistency. Give us a trial where we team up with Jack Garland to fight CHAOS.

Edit: the game losing players by the boatload on the daily might ultimately make Yoshi's claims of "no blitzball" moot. Corpos might overwrite his claims and force something like it into the game provided they truly believe it will somehow result in a boost to sub numbers.

You can't really force it into the game because it's not likely to be very fun.

Depending on how you implement it - it's very likely to be unpopular content. You can turn it into BLU/BST/Gold Saucer style solo content and block it off to those players, or having it be PVP (which is deeply unpopular in FFXIV) and lock it off there. It's very unlikely they want to dedicate any dev time to something that isn't going to be adopted by a large player segment (which is why PVP is stagnant and most content is Dungeons and Raids).

It can't be forced into the main story like it was in X and while FFX players talk about how great Blitzball is, they often mean conceptually, in cutscenes, and in parts forced through the story. The game wasn't deep enough to where players fondly recall grinding tournaments over and over again for various completion items.

If anything - the corporation likely wants to just shove more crossover stuff into the game, preferably with IRL corporations or promote other SquareEnix titles.
