Final Fantasy VI - Cause I am re-playing it and feel like talking about it.

A pity, as I would of liked to see a new game+ mode where you get the extra jobs earlier.
They can be hacked. Interesting to note: Galuf has no Cannoneer sprite. Instead, you see a tiny cannon take on Gilgamesh & Exdeath.

The Blue Mage from hell has only three real uses: Beat up Exdeath (like you said), going back into the ??? cave and it's areas to clean up any chests and bosses you may of skipped, and Soul Shrine.

It isn't in a New Game+ , but this rom hack is similar to what you're looking for.

You unlock the new classes in the main game from the crystals, and as a bonus you can even assign "attack" and "items" to other skills for more customization if you want.

I hate to bump a nearly month old thread but I felt this way relevant: two very stellar FF6 mods have been finished. One is Brave New World and the other is a translation of some famous Japanese hack called T-Edition.

https://poematocx.com/ff6t T-Edition.

Haven't played much of either, I suck at hard mods and have had several game overs in Narshe cave.

To add to what @Jinmen said: apparently BNV and T-Edition run on all emulators and even modded SNES Classics.

You can completely trivialize 8 in just a few hours. 7 (the original, not the remake) is far easier to the point where you really just need one Restore-All in your materia setup with no grinding at all to steamroll the game. 6 at least poses a challenge, assuming you're not grinding, or abusing Vanish/Doom or Joker Doom. For that reason, I'm not in the market for any 'rebalancing'. BNW also monkeyed around with the dialog too much.

T-Edition is a lot harder in general and is more a fanservice game which completely differs from the original. There aren't any noticeable QoL improvements that are absent from other versions.

P.S.: Not to be confused with A World Reborn. AWR is a PC mod, to get rid of those gross sprites.

Final Fantasy 6 is hands down my favorite JRPG, and one of my most treasured video games. I am eternally butthurt that the not bad, but severely inferior, Final Fantasy 7 has forever overshadowed it.

Currently replaying the original English translation on my phone, kinda wished though that I had looked into some of the fan options of restoring content and getting some of the extra stuff from later releases.

The game that even comes close to it for me is Octopath Traveller. The game lives up to Final Fantasy 6 in both pixel art and music. Where it lacks is the story is a bit weak, varying by character, and it definitely has since mechanical hiccups that hold it back. Difficult curve is a rollercoaster ride and the job system is a bit lackluster

There is no reason to mod or meddle with FFVI. It is great as it is and you should kill yourself for sullying your mouth with the idea of modding it. The only better JRPGs are possibly a pair of Dragon Quest games and Chrono Trigger.

I have spoken. Therefore it is law.

You may return now to your heresy.

Oh nice, I've been looking forward to T-Edition getting a proper playable translation. The actual romhack patch is here: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/6339/

I'd just post my roms but I'm sure Null doesn't want to have S-E take him to Chuck's Fuck & Suck, and reading documentation any of this kinda shit can be a pain, so here's how to patch it as simply as possible:
  • You need LunarIPS. It's here, and only for Windows.
  • You need Final Fantasy VI (J).smc. If you don't already have the SNES romset, here you go: https://archive.org/details/GoodSNESn
  • Put LunarIPS, Final Fantasy VI (J).smc, and FF6-T-Edition-English-versionA.ips in the same folder.
  • Run LunarIPS, click "Apply IPS patch", select the patch, select the rom, and bada bing bada boom it's done. Remember to rename it to T-Edition, since LunarIPS doesn't do that for you.
  • FF6-T-Edition-EX-English-versionA is, according to the readme, a post-game DLC sorta thing. So, just use the regular patch, not the EX one.

If you're playing on a phone or handheld, you can connect a USB cord and apply patches directly to the games in your library. Smooth as silk. And @Pissmaster is right: it doesn't hurt to change the filenames. I'm usually too lazy to do that, though.

Can I use my own rom dumps to use these mods or do I need to download another one? Theoretically my own should work.
Well it's for the Japanese version of FF6. I guess if you have that one...

Every translation patch comes with a CRC32 of the rom it works on. If it matches, you're good to go. Otherwise it's the wrong rom or you might need to use a tool to add a header and check the CRC32 again.

BoF is the most depressing series I've ever played! Not bad, Capcom; considering the bad localization.

Cerl is a general in Zog's army who has an emotional crisis. Nina was born with black wings and cast out from Wyndia. (Katt is surprised to learn what happened, and says she likes Nina's wings, even if they are black. :)) And that's just the first two games.

Man, up close like this, FF7 looks like a modded anime Lego game

Am I the only one that sees that shit? Its very...blocky and the eyes feels slapped ontop of the faces.

Ok so I tried it, and FF6 T-Edition was grindy garbage and i was gonna write an effortpost on it but couldn't muster up enough ass to care. It slowed the game waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay the fuck down, every random enemy became a damage sponge and hit like a brick. You'd have to heal everyone every couple of turns so you couldn't really even throttle through it either. I made it to South Figaro and gave up 'cause it sucked.

also it was a retranslation of the Jap version so everything used shortened names and the menus had more columns, so it just didn't feel right at all. It would have been neat to see all the extra stuff they supposedly added, but I'm not playing a worse version of FF6 to get that. maybe someday I'll just Game Genie up a party of level 99s and blast through the game to see all that, but I would absolutely not recommend

For some reason this is what modders think difficulty mods should be like. See: FFT 1.3 where you have to set your party up to basically sandbag the enemy by rezzing your dudes as they go down and taking potshots when you can. Maps take FOREVER.

Also the pony mod was surprisingly fun, and I was completely lost since I have never watched an episode of MLP in my life.
