OH!!

This makes me quite happy. Now just add Shen Woo and we can all be happy. That way, I can make my KOF XIII team-up.

Because I fucking hate Ash Crimson

She should be a bit chubby, I think. It'd fit the sumo thing a little better.
Agreed.

But at the same time, her being a lil school girl was probably part of the joke / surrealism / point.

You know, you got this chick doing Sumo slamming and body tossing giant muscle hounds like Clark and Ralf or machine men like Maxima.

I would like to see more female sumo wrestlers in my fighting games though. Would be a little fun diversion from the usual vidya sumo guys

Happy Belated New Year and Happy Birthday to the Queen of Fighting Games:

Under night 2 is coming out on the 25th and that's pretty much the only fighting game I play anymore. I used to play a lot more, but I stopped with SF around SFV, stopped at Tekken at Tekken 6, always hated how GG handled, and while I still quite like both KOFXV and SC6, I just don't feel much drive to load them up anymore.

Even since I picked up under night around 2018 (ironically before the game got on EVO), I find myself just wanting to go back to it no matter what other game I play. I could sperg about the game for hours because I love everything about it. Having that much carry over dash momentum in a game with borderline any dash recovery is both retarded and fun as fuck. GRD keeps matches dynamic so I never get bored no matter how long or how often I play. Every character is well rounded (starting with CLR) and I never find myself in 9:1 matchups. A lot of people complain about how most character's kits are built around extending their turn indefinitely, but I've never found it a problem since under night is the only game where I'd consider being trapped in the corner fun. And lastly I've always loved Yoshihara's animations.

Real Bout Fatal Fury Special is the greatest FG of all time.
You can't change my mind.

Speaking of that, I got that the other day as part of the Fatal Fury: Battle Archives Volume 2 on PlayStation. I'm leaning a bit more toward Real Bout 2 but honestly, all three hold up. I may also love its OST more.

I probably say this because I still need more time with Special but they are entertaining games that play really well.

For funsies, I also bought World Heroes Jet. I need to get gud because it's kicking my ass at normal difficulty.

The polish and presentation of Special is top notch.
I feel like it's lane shifting combo system offers more freedom and can be really impressive to watch once you figure it out.
RB2 is a fine game, but it feels more limited after playing special.
Like it's not quite finished.
It basically has a prototype combo system that they figured out in Garou.
Play all 3 RB games, they are all great.
The US version of Battle Archives Vol.2 is censored.
No blood, no bouncing, and no bare boobs on B. Mary in RB.
If I'm remembering correctly they are also based on the NEO•GEO CD versions so a few animation frames might be missing. I'd have to drag mine out to confirm.
None of that really has any effect on how the games play though so have fun with it.

I'm praying for good netcode and decent online modes for UNI2, if I have good netcode in Under Night I'm gonna be in heaven.
Fuck, GGST was the first mainstream game that had such good netcode I actually felt really good about the genre. Pity about literally everything else in that game such as the god awful lobbies, the ever mounting shit balance patches, and the alphabet pandering.
Living in the middle of nowhere in the fighting game genre has been hell, but thank god at least companies are making an effort to give us something playable online.

Despite the people who seem to always get fucked on Melty's online, it never had any issues for me. Even when i tested on wifi it was still working fine (though i had to increase input delay to 2 frames). Lobbies were fine too after the first DLC wave (a spectator could somehow close the lobby sometimes and you always get at least one asshole eventually). There was an issue with custom colors not letting you go online if you've edited... but I haven't played again since the Dantes/Ushi drop so I wouldn't know how it is now.

As long as Furanpan just achieves that again, that's already better than any Arcsys lobby i've ever had the displeasure of using. Even when you don't live in the super boonies there's pretty much like... 1 whole local scene in most countries. Even though there's technically a "locals" scene in my area for niche fighting games, the standard is pretty low and most people are just there to snort heroin.

Melty TL online I never really got to try, I played one set against a local player in lobbies on release week but the way reverse beat and shield worked put me off the game pretty quickly. Stringing hits together in combos felt good at least, oh and the main menu music was great as well as the game aesthetic.

As for locals here, 90 minutes away. Was at least enjoying the regional discords for a while but they got taken over by alphabet people who love to politisperg or at the very least just regular sperg.

Man, I had such a complicated relationship with MBTL, a little bit with reverse beat (which they remedied in a later patch) and a lot with shields. I didn't hate the idea of how they worked, but the execution was pretty godawful. Absolutely insane how important empty shields were despite being the single most annoying thing to input.

The shield rework on the other hand was too much. Okay now clean shield followup inputs are easy. But in return, shield B followup got fucking neutered to the point that it's completely and entirely pointless now, which bothered me a lot since it was the one part of shield I actually liked.

It was kind of unfortunate, I don't remember when exactly the rework dropped, but it also came with a ~6f cut across the board to dash startup, which was fucking awesome.

I ended up being so preoccupied with PalWorld that I haven't bought UNI2 yet. I did manage to catch a fair bit of gameplay regarding Kuon and I was not expecting him to have Hime's float. Not as fast and it costs GRD though, so none of that 4 way mixup bullshit lol.

I think the thinness is just a carryover because it's the old sprite designs. Seeing her do the sumo moves in 3D does look a little weird.

If she was being designed today I'd expect something like the Rikijo manga:

Due to a combination of work and money issues, I have only JUST got my hands on UNI2. I tried out a bunch of characters, among them Tsurugi, who i'd been looking forward to playing.

Absolute comedy. This dude gets to cancel specials into a mid/high guardpoint stance which can then be cancelled back into specials if not just dropped with D. Moreover, anytime anyone green shields i can also just cancel into 214C for instant GRD break, the pressure is just neverending, like Wagner except if she never needed buffs or meter.

And if they don't shield?

Lol get fucked, FF > 4X > j.[C] is plus by a whopping 12 frames, back into the grinder with you!
