SNK Producer Yasuyuki Oda Says "Both Parties Interested" in SNK Vs. Capcom Revival
Still waiting on Capcom Vs. SNK 3 to happen? SNK producer and designer Yasuyuki Oda recently spoke with VideoGamesChronicle (VGC), suggesting that a modern Capcom Vs. SNK or SNK Vs. Capcom crossover fighting game is possible in the future! Oda-san mentioned the hype generated by the recent EVO '22 collaboration artwork created by Shinkiro and Eisuke Ogura was well received by fans and "reconfirmed" the public's interest in a revival. When asked about his interest in working on a new crossover title, the SNK producer stated: "Definitely in the future, that's something that I think everybody on all sides, in both parties, are interested in making a reality."
"Especially after we saw the reaction to the (EVO 2022 posters)… it helped us reconfirm that that is probably one of the most wanted things from the fighting game community across the entire world," said producer Oda.
When VGC asked Yasuyuki Oda if there are any solid plans for the next Capcom Vs. SNK crossover title, Oda replied: "We haven't really talked in detail with anybody at Capcom about it. It might have come up as a vague comment.
"However, we have a lot of experience (in crossovers) with things like Akuma and Geese in TEKKEN 7, Terry Bogard in Fighting EX Layer, Terry in Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Baiken in Samurai Shodown," Oda continued. "But recently, we haven't actually done anything with Capcom, even on character collaboration stuff. So that EVO poster, in our sense, was the first step towards maybe something like that happening in the future."
Finally, VideoGamesChronicle asked the SNK producer how much longer anxious fans might have to wait for a new Capcom Vs. SNK fighting game, to which Oda-san replied: "20 years is definitely too long for me. We'll try and get it done in 10!"
While Oda claimed that no serious conversations between SNK and Capcom have taken place regarding a new crossover game, Capcom's own developers have expressed interest in the recent past. In 2021, Capcom Vs. SNK 2 director Hideaki Itsuno told Polygon that he would be interested in creating Capcom Vs. SNK 3.
