I've been playing Guilty gear accent core + R and I've been getting my ass kicked online, its a very fun game and has a loooot of freedom to how you chain your combos, one problem I have with the game, well its not really a problem of the game itself its a problem with me being more used to xrd, but that game is a lot more forgiving with the inputs than this one,
check in the options and there's a setting for lenient inputs
i think they originally added it because hitbox players were having a lot of trouble getting half circles to register

+R's fightcade style lobby is such a godsend it's not even funny. I'm impressed fighting games still have issues going from start game to playing a match. Makes me which all those games which turn lobby based after the ranked mode dies like Xrd and CF did that instead of the 8 man lobbies, 64 man FT2 lobbies means you actually have a decent amount of rotation among the players.

Gameplaywise, going from Xrd to +R has a lot of growing pains, you got to be both fast and accurate and that's not even going into FRCs. Game is fun as fuck even if it makes me wish for Xrd to eventually get rolback. That and the replay feature make +R really got the best QoL out of any fighting game IMO.

Tbh, with strive out I doubt Xrd will get rollback any time soon.

Is it just me or are those great graphics for PS1?
Those graphics are surprisingly good for PSX and even impressed the most polygon-jaded reviewer from the 2000s.

A shame people have a such a bug up their ass about the game's mechanics because that game could've evolved into a wonderful franchise.

fix'd

Remember when you could unlock new fighters, use a secret code to access them, or the companies just flat-out gave you all of them with the initial package? Those were good times.
I'll be honest, I dont mind how fighting games are sold now, I rather have seasonal updates that I dont even have to buy instead of new updated version that can't play against older ones.
Edit: as long as the base game isn't shit and barebones, like vanilla SFV

How about paying full price for a new version that is just a balance patch and nothing else?

But I'll put DBFZ having it's DLC roster be pay to win as a close second.

The dlc scheme in BBCT was bad enough to make me step away forever from fighting games built around it. Unless all the shit's on the disc, don't bother telling me.

Fighting games make the most sense (aside from sports) for a "games as a service" model. Street Fighter 2 is still popular to this day, if they added new updates I think even more people would flock back to it. Why juggle a dozen different versions and splinter the playerbase instead of making it a platform?

To be fair, Violent Ken was a character from SNK vs Capcom Chaos, which in turn was based off of the Anime Movie and Alpha 3 when Bison posesses Ken with his Psycho Power, so that makes sense.

If you REALLY want to see how they would fuck it up, look at HD Remix. While they tried to balance Super Turbo, they also added some unnecessary WTF things to characters as well. Also, IMO, the re-drawn characters looked ugly as sin.

I personally find HDR to be the best SF2. It wasn't perfect by any means, but I appreciated most changes. I just think they needed to tweak the balance a bit more, low tier characters like Cammy were still not improved enough imo (and just some matchups in general were still pretty uneven). I also liked the new art and music but it was also toggleable with the old stuff, unlike FC.

FC did some stuff right though, if they make another version then I hope they keep the throw cancels and lenient input found in FC.

I guess this is the place to put this, but if it isnt I'll just delete it.
A couple of days ago I got bored and started trying to make a fighting game on Unity, so far I've only finished the basic movement, jumping, crouching and defending, I havent even been using sprites, just boxes that get thinner when defending and shorted when crouching.
It has been a fun project tho and I thought you guys may find it interesting.

That's very cool. I'd like to see where this goes.

Well, because the old video was lost to the tranny wars I'll upload a new one and give a bit of an update.

So I worked around how to use the unity input system so that I can detect the inputs of each controller individually, I also adapted the spawning character system in a way that will allow me to use the playerinput gameObject as a container that will bring the character gameObjects to the stage scene. This way it will make it easier for me when I start making a characters menu.
Also as you can see I am using a Ryu sprite as a place holder.
Edit: I also added a dinamic camera.
