And of course as with many creepy fetishes, the Japanese did it first. They call it Animegao Kigurumi, "anime-faced costume", although the term "doller" is also used. It seems to be part of the cosplay scene, rather than LGBT, but it's definitely similar in concept.

Weirdly, that seems less creepy than the other kind. I think it's that the obvious fakeness doesn't trigger the uncanny valley horrorfest that the hyper-realistic version does.

Doesn't mean I want to encounter either in a dark alley somewhere.

I've seen tons of these at conventions before. They're always 30-50 year old dudes who go around giggling and asking for hugs. It's actually pretty terrifying, especially since they're usually pretty big dudes.
 
Omfg. Simone first popped up on my radar when Willam's Beatdown covered him and uh his gloves.

Seriously it takes a lot..... for the creeps to kick into high gear. This video not only brought on the creeps but they wound up sticking around for a few weeks. Like seriously PTSD flashbacks and shit. So naturally the video needed to be shared as much as humanly possible. Kind of like The Ring. Except not. Misery loves company.

She's so scary that it's physically uncomfortable watching her. But not watching is not an option. One day Simone and her gloves will rule all. She will peel our faces off and wear them whenever the mood strikes.

That reminds me: years ago there used to be this webcam site where you could watch one of these people sit at his computer, dressed up just like one of those characters. Occasionally he would wave at the camera and make cutesy gestures.
 
As creepy and funny as this hobby is I don't take any issue with them to be honest. So long as they're not hurting anyone I couldn't care less.
