Found a video on the game from a relatively alright youtuber, makes me glad I never took the plunge.
tl;dw for those not playing the game: Lack of QoL, Pityless Gacha, loads of time between content, missable content, need to find basic info on the wiki, convoluted old engine that needs a full rollback since the devs can't do large changes without breaking it.

It's pretty insane how much the devs shit on the playerbase compared to other gacha, especially as it's nearly a decade old and still looks like shit barring the character portraits. The levels of cope "IT'S NOT THE DEVS FAULT, IT'S ANIPLEX" on the comment section is ridiculous.

Two of these aren't true which are just that there are a good amount of Quality of life updates, and there is a pity system even if it isn't the best one.

Because if there was no or lacking quality of life, I think the game wouldn't have lasted as long as it did, because while it is easy to say the Fate IP carries it, games with bigger IP have died out. Not to mention, 2015 FGO is really unplayable.

However, the amount of time between content, missable content, and having to find basic information on a wiki are actual problems (which that one is only starting to be fixed now but slowly).

Some of these come down to lack of replayability features beyond farming, the fact reruns are almost non-existent for awhile, and the only content being more accessible is stuff connected to the story.

Though there is truth to blaming the devs, but it is not aniplex or DW/Lasengle, but rather TYPE-MOON themselves that are responsible because there are times that it clearly shows that Nasu and others at TYPE-MOON have never really had proper experience managing a game this large. Especially Nasu as while he's a great writer, he really is not good at management and still acts like he's still an indie developer as he'd have whole story chapters finished just to scrap them last minute, or procrastinate playing video games and such instead of writing. It also doesn't help TYPE-MOON are deciding factors when it comes to a lot of changes in the game like quality of life, animation updates, buffs, and other types of content.

Ironically 2024 is somewhat a better year as they have actually improved more this year compared to previous years though the biggest fumble was that coin fiasco on anniversary that they eventually walked back on due to public backlash.

I haven't played too many gatchas but the one thing I think fgo does a bit better is some of the low rarity free servants are pretty useful and outshine some servants you need to drop 300 bucks on unlike some gatchas where anything below a 5 star might as well not be in the game (although some units are still kinda useless and there's really no good craft essence bellow 4 stars save two)

I didn’t like fgo when i tried it during the last anniversary. Its just way too clunky compared to its contemporaries and felt like the combat UI and slow loading main menu was fighting me even with the free saber. I wanted prototype merlin but wasn’t going to wait at least a year for that summer rerun to come around. Fuck that.

For some reason it also has a superior arcade cabinet by the same name where they jumped to 3D models and battlefields for all of the characters. Yet they never made a true pc or app store version for it.

You could probably manage most of the game with a built 3* of every class and a friend castoria

Just build:
Saber- Caesar, or once available, Bedivere. Fergus maybe if you need AoE
Lancer- Cu
Archer- Robin Hood. Euryale is also a shout, especially to deal with Camelot Gawain. Also Arash for nuking
Rider- Ushiwakamaru
Caster- Medea if you absolutely need offence. Chen Gong is pretty easy to use while Andersen is useful
Assassin- Hundred Faces or Kotaro
Berserker- Lu Bu

My luck has been shit for pulls lately. Hopefully it improves once LB7 pops up.

Euryale is also really useful on male bosses since I've seen people use her for charm spamming even a boss in Lostbelt 6.

Xu Fu is also a pretty great arts support and Georgios is the best tank in the game

regend can cut every swallow lol.
andersen was like Jeanne but way better.
Jason saber is also nice to have. 1 to 3 stars are really good. they are just gimmicky which i believe make them even better.

The only two servants I'd argue are bad because of their gimmicks are Jekyll/Hyde because of the transformation effectively meaning the don't have a NP, and Angra since as a boss enemy he can be a nightmare with his NP because and completely wipe out you front line, but as a servant I think he can do 40k damage tops. I've seen some people use him in challenge and recollection quests, but you need a lot of RNG luck and meta supports to pull off

I think two more bad low rarity servants are Phantom and Geronimo.

Phantom has an extremely niche use that other servants can do better, and Geronimo's kit is very half-assed that it needs an actual complete overhaul. The "upgrade" recently given feels like the absolute bare minimum

But as for a good low rarity servant, Asterios is a really solid debuff servant with his NP.

Geronimo was the stuff of legend, almost hoped they never fixed him. Even at launch, Helena Blavatsky, not even a particularly powerful servant (carried me a long way though), has his entire skillset as one skill. And hers is cast on the whole party

iirc Geronimo had the hardest hitting aoe NP out of any low rarity caster for a long time, maybe Caster Cu and Babbage hit harder nowadays if you need a low rarity caster but Caster Cu didn't really get good until LB6 and Babbage needed 2 strengthenings. Although yeah Phantom is kinda useless, I still think he's a bit better for having a NP unlike Jekyll, but that's a low bar.

For those playing on the Western Server, Nitocris Alter is coming early (probably because it wouldn't mess with the GSSR)

Alright who has money on the new years servant being a tsukihime character, there's about 3-4 they could choose
I feel like if the New Years servant is a Tsukihime character, it would be Akiha or Shiki

But otherwise, my bet is on Richard due to the Strange/Fake anime coming out
