They added an option into 3 that allows you to reset the outposts so you can go and fight them again, although I can't recall if you have to finish the game first or not.
Overall I thought 3 was the best, 4 is still a great game, but I much preferred the first island in 3 as a location and I felt the random events were far to frequent in 4.

You have to finish the game first as well as all the Outposts.

I think Far Cry Instincts is the best game in the series..
Is that the console version of the first game? What makes it stand out in your opinion?

This is probably a bit late, but RE: good FC3 characters.

I always liked the german dude the most, the whole time i felt like he was a scumbag and was going to betray you eventually, nope total bro in the end.

Far Cry: Primal is really easy if you tame a Cave Bear or a Sabertooth, even "Very Hard" forts didn't pose much of a challenge
That was my big problem with it. You can take most outposts without even going into them, even the forts. Use a sabre-tooth and have your owl drop bee and beserk bombs and you can clear it from a nearby hilltop.

I've never played Far Cry 3 or 4, but I found 1 and 2 at Goodwill, so I will give a brief review.

Far Cry 1 sucked because it was a tech demo released as a game. It looked very pretty in 2004, and they tried to sell it as some stealth FPS, despite it having no stealth mechanics, and sparse health or ammo pickups. Plus a plot cheesy enough that even Uwe Boll improved upon it.

Far Cry 2 was a vast improvement, simply there was a map, and checkpoints, and health and ammo pickups, and partners and a story. Still no stealth mechanics (except for day/night cycles).

Why am I harping so much about "stealth mechanics"? Because these game were billed as some hyper-realistic FPS where you gotta take cover and not run and gun, and you gotta use STEALTH!. However, due to the poorly coded AI in these game the enemy can spot you and start blasting despite what cover or how much you crouch or move slowly. In any good video game with a stealth mechanic, there has to be some visual marker, like the Metal Gear radar with the cones, or the Thief games with the bar, or Skyrim / Oblivion with the eyeball over the crosshair.

Edit: Plus when I bought a new video card 4 years ago it came with a code for a free copy of Far Cry: Blood Dragon but when I tried to redeem it, Ubisoft said it was already claimed. So fuck those pretend French, maple syrup chugging, Canadian bacon butt boy SWPL fucks!

I have to disagree somewhat, because in Far Cry 1 you can use stealth pretty effectively and destroy enemy patrols without other enemies noticing, it's just fairly difficult. Hiding in bushes absolutely does matter when it comes to stealth. But stealth is pretty difficult to do overall in the game since you've only got one stealth-capable weapon. However, you can use stealth to thin out enemies before going in with guns blazing.

I really wish the series would reintroduce the partners mechanic.
Farcry 2 had its flaws but its one of my fav games ever.
Im slowly chugging through primal, great game but no real difficulty. Ive stopped using tame animals as its just removing any challenge.

They should let you to call them for help anytime instead of just activating when you get downed. Or being able to pick them up from Mike's Bar in exchange for a fee and they should be able to enter vehicles with you and use mounted machineguns. As far as side missions go, they could also involve rescuing merc buddies or something.

Far Cry 2 had a setting with lots of potential, but the game was really sanitized for understandable reasons and you didn't for example see civilians outside of the settlements where you can't conduct any combat.

Just take all that and stick it in the aftermath of kyrat were various factions are craving up the country.
No "right" choices, no good guys just merc work and morale grey.

It's been a while since I played FC1, but all I remember is getting cut down instantly even when I sneaky sneaky in the bushes. Then you got the vehicle stages where every bullet and missile is somehow magnetically attracted to you. Maybe I was bad at that game, which is an option I will not deny. However, that goes to my main argument, that it sucked as some hyper-realistic stealth simulator.

The game definitely can't be played as a full-on stealth game, and that game where you had to man the turret on some jeep sucked so bad.
Far Cry 3 is better at enabling actual stealth gameplay, although it has a lot of sections too where it forces you to direct combat.

None of the Far Crys are pure stealth games like Metal Gear but they all incorporate aspects of stealth into them. It's possible to play them as generic straight shooters, but not much fun.

Creeping around in the bushes and sniping with your bow then getting caught and busting out your machine gun and chucking grenades is great.

Never liked the stealth option
Shotgun and fire is the way go for me.

One thing I liked about Farcry 3 onwards is the physicality of the way the player navigates the environment and interacts with things. There's a satisfying sense of heft to the movement and traversal without it feeling sluggish and I feel there's a lot that Bethesda could learn from that aspect of these games instead of "floating" around the world the way you do.

I liked this with the exception of the climbing stuff which relied on finding the sweet spot where the button prompt appears because it felt really clunky in contrast to the otherwise organic movement.
Other than that,. I really loved how the vehicle mechanics and driving physics worked. If only you could ask a friendly along to man the turret in the vehicles... *sigh*.

One thing i really like in primal is the weight of a hit from a hurled spear.
Watching an enemy hurled backwards occasionally off a cliff or into other enemies.
I know its not realistic but i would love to see similar effect in the next game. Between ragdoll for explosions or shotgun knockback.

Yeah, they really nail making you feel like your character physically exists in the world better then any other game I can think of.

Climbing towers or anything really was the most annoying fucking thing in the world. They got rid of tower climbing in Primal, thank god.

Fire definitely wasn't my friend in Far Cry 3 because it could kill you really fast while it usually didn't spread very far you triend to use it. In Far Cry 2 the fire spread everywhere and destroyed entire outposts because the enemies were too stupid to avoid it. I really wish that they would remake Far Cry 2 with Far Cry 3 mechanics but re-introduce weapon degradation.
