Joseph Wilson, better known as ‘Mitten Squad,’ the creator of dozens of Fallout and Elder Scrolls challenge run videos on YouTube, has died at the age of 27. A legend among the Bethesda games community, Wilson made some of the greatest Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 3, and Elder Scrolls videos of all time, and completed incredible challenge runs for a variety of other games including Far Cry, Doom, BioShock, and GTA 5. Blending imagination, humor, and superlative gaming ability, Wilson accrued more than 1.4 million subscribers on YouTube. He was renowned for his deadpan narration and for creating obscure and inventive challenges, such as trying to complete the entirety of Fallout New Vegas without ever moving the in-game camera.

Between Fallout New Vegas, Skyrim, Fallout 4, and many others, Wilson’s videos covered the majority of Bethesda and Obsidian’s modern RPG games. In some cases, he created challenge runs that were designed to be intensely difficult, such as beating Fallout 4 without taking a single point of damage.

In other cases, the runs were more abstract and imaginative, such as completing both Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas at the same time using one controller. Wilson also beat Fallout 3 by controlling the game exclusively using eye movement.

Wilson’s final video was posted on Thursday July 14, 2022, and has so far gained more than 1.2 million views. He shared occasional updates via his social media pages regarding struggles with his health and with alcohol use. “I will upload again, eventually,” Wilson wrote on Friday November 24, 2023. “Mitten Squad will return.”

On Monday December 18, Molnar Funeral Homes in Brownstown, Michigan, shared an obituary page for Wilson. He is survived by his mother and father, his brother, and his grandparents.

I was looking up his videos to see when he last uploaded and this was the first result. You can't make this up.
That’s an actually unique challenge. I remember playing Fallout 3 trying to use my character to see how long I can play while being infected by every other infested cockroach in the game.

He seems like a better player than me. I should check out his videos.

Weird. I’ve played a lot of elder scrolls content over the last twenty years and never heard of this guy.

I do think using “mittens” in your name is pretty gay, though
Yeah literally no idea who this guy is.

But lets plays are and always have been a text-based medium so that's probably why.

I wouldn't read too much into that as darkly amusing as it is in hind sight. Addiction is an often negative mechanic in Fallout, so of course someone would be curious if they could beat the game while addicted to everything.

His videos were good background noise since his sense of humor usually carried it rather than the run itself imo. It wasn't a mystery he had a drinking issue, he made it clear in several videos, but as a casual watcher I sure as shit didn't expect him to up and die like that.
R.I.P.

Loved this guys videos. I remember watching his face reveal video and my reaction was "Ohhh now I get why you drink so much".

Damn, I remembered this guy's video on the disaster that was Fallout: The Frontier and laughed my ass off over how he said the mod was so bad that he couldn't finish it. RIP. Thanks for the laughs buddy and for also making the self-important, smug faggots at Nexus squirm and cry.

Dude destroyed his liver hard - for those not in the know, he was the kind of alcoholic addicted to hard liquor. I'd hoped he was trying to get clean myself, but it's a damn shame it's ended for him like this. I always enjoyed his content.

And for the people here asking why this is news, look at the source. PC Games News isn't exactly CNN.

Anyone notice how many people are dropping dead in their mid-late twenties.

I'm not saying this is the coff shot, I am saying something is killing kids, regardless of reason, at a higher rate than usual.

Never really watched any of this guy's content (challenge runs/speedruns are fucking gay; go play something else) but it sucks he's gone, doubly so for someone so young. Guy's head looks like it got stuck in a vice though.
Yeah, upon seeing the photo my first reaction was, "What? Did his head explode?"
