There's a new meme floating around the lugenpresse in a concerted if not organized effort to determine who is and who isn't a legitimate source of news.

They have dubbed this shitty forced meme "Fake News", and there are already a dozen different articles and a presidential endorsement behind it's transparently hollow message.

"WE CONTROL WHAT THE TRUTH IS YOU SILLY GOYS!"

After lying to the global populace for an entire year about the realistic chances of a Trump presidency, they're all butthurt that nobody trusts them anymore.
Naturally, rather than fix their biased reporting they're doubling down.

Oh yeah, and a brand spankin' new Wikipedia page courtesy of these subversive fuckfaces.

Ignorance is strength.

My question to you is, what percentage of the mainstream media do you really believe intends to report to you the truth?

I didn't trust the MSM from the onset. That was my no. 1 reason to vote for Trump. Anyone hated that much by them had to be a decent guy. I knew that 'fake news' was bullshit because they didn't talk about until the moment after Trump won. Any issue that is suddenly brought up in that context is a red flag for bullshit. The same thing happened with the absurd bathroom laws and religious freedom stuff-they flared up just as soon as Obergefell vs. Hodges came out.

All media outlets seem to have extreme bias though, one way or another, to the point where it's ridiculous. I feel like I can't trust anything that comes from some sort of corporation or bureaucracy. I think another reason I voted for Trump is that even though he lies all the time, I can actually when he's lying instead of wondering.

Umm. Can we use negative numbers?

Read news from different sources, compare them and and make your own mind up. It helps that the biases are usually pretty obvious.

First, you need to understand reporters and editorial writers are twice as stupid as shit. They always have been and the current death rattle of the traditional press ain't helping.

What we're left with, a combination of the last print behemoths and the current online options, is frighteningly inept. The Roman Catholic pedophile scandal would never have been reported on today, as the papers cannot risk alienating any of their remaining readership, never mind the majority of it. So, what's left of investigative journalism is the European publicly funded media, TV bullshit and abominations like Vice's blatant communist propaganda wrapped up in human interest stories.

And, of course, they all want more eyeballs and more clicks, thus the point of this thread. Despite almost all of them endorsing Hillary, I'm fairly certain the editorial boards of all the major US newspapers would suck Trump's cock and run the pics on the front page if it meant 100,000 more readers. In the same spirit, they eagerly tout blacklists as long as they aren't on it.

Normally, this would be the part where I warn against not trusting anything. Unfortunately, with the current 32% of the populace claiming to trust the media, that's pretty much out the window and everybody thinks they are reading fake news, no matter the source.

Traditional media has deteriorated to the point where @Jaimas somehow manages to provide more credible investigative work than any mainstream journalist in the last five years. These shitheels can't go underwater fast enough.

There'll always be the stragglers. And part of me doubts that they'll ever go away.

Tbh It's a legitimate problem. A fake news site dumps misinformation onto facebook and everyone takes it seriously. Just because the MSN is shit doesn't make the fake news automatically true. Here's an example.

"If I were to run, I'd run as a Republican. They're the dumbest group of voters in the country. They believe anything on Fox News. I could lie and they'd still eat it up. I bet my numbers would be terrific."

Trump never said that but the post its associated with has shares in the hundreds of thousands.

Fake news propagates because it sells. If exceptionals on Facebook and Twitter didn't keep signal boosting every bit of fake news they wished or feared was true, then there wouldn't be a fake news problem. Right now there's plenty of incentive to present hearsay and conjecture as fact. It's the Fox News-ification of the Left.

Journalism is a product that people consume, therefore, the providers of the product are trying to cater to the tastes of their consumers. Of course, in order to sell the best product, it has to be the most scandalous.

This. There are people who create fake, bullshit headlines and throw them on facebook, then people just share them religiously without even reading the article and form an opinion. It happens on both sides of the aisle and the way facebook works is it creates an echo chamber where you only get news from sources that pertain to your interests, and thus never get any conflicting points of view. It's a legitimate problem, but I have no idea how it can be fixed.

My friend's mom thought Metallica was gonna play at the local gas station after seeing a fake news post on facebook but she's a special case.

Another big one was the pope endorsing Donald trump. It's not good sign that faith in the MSN is so bad that everyone is retreating into echo chambers.

The fact that they can toss around money to make their own stories via blatantly fake Facebok profiles sharing the same articles with identical posts, hire "protestors", and get pretty much any whackjob opinion they want by interviewing stupid college kids is a large part of the problem.

That and the fearmongering. Rational arguments and well-researched investigative reporting are squelched if they don't either tow a party line or irresponsibly terrify people over nothing.

Breaking News: Modern people lack discernment.

The main problem with journalism is the current crop of journalists. Get them out, and CNN wouldn't be a huge lolcow anymore.

However, unseating them by force is simply not going to happen. Same with people picking up stakes and just taking their business elsewhere. The invisible hand can't really help us here.

To summarize, no covert or overt revolution is going to POOF! fix the plague affecting journalism.

What will? I have no idea, because this has never happened in history in a similar event.
