Apple has shut down Facebook’s ability to distribute internal iOS apps, from early releases of the Facebook app to basic tools like a lunch menu. A person familiar with the situation tells The Verge that early versions of Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and other pre-release “dogfood” (beta) apps have stopped working, as have other employee apps, like one for transportation. Facebook is treating this as a critical problem internally, we’re told, as the affected apps simply don’t launch on employees’ phones anymore.

The shutdown comes in response to news that Facebook has been using Apple’s program for internal app distribution to track teenage customers with a “research” app.

That app, revealed yesterday by TechCrunch, was distributed outside of the App Store using Apple’s enterprise program, which allows developers to use special certificates to install more powerful apps onto iPhones. Those apps are only supposed to be used by a company’s employees, however, and Facebook had been distributing its tracking app to customers. Facebook later said it would shut down the app.

This poses a huge issue for Facebook. While Apple provides other tools a company can use to install apps internally, Apple’s enterprise program is the main solution for widely distributing internal apps and services. In an email, a Facebook spokesperson said “I can confirm that this affects our internal apps.”

In a statement given to Recode, Apple said that Facebook was in “clear breach of their agreement with Apple.” Any developer that breaches that agreement, Apple said, has their distribution certificates revoked, “which is what we did in this case to protect our users and their data.” Apple declined to comment on shutting down all of Facebook’s internal apps in an email to The Verge.

Revoking a certificate not only stops apps from being distributed on iOS, but it also stops apps from working. And because internal apps by the same organization or developer may be connected to a single certificate, it can lead to immense headaches like the one Facebook now finds itself in where a multitude of internal apps have been shut down.

Apple and Facebook have already been bickering over privacy, but this is the first instance of Apple taking an action that directly shuts down some of Facebook’s activities. Last March, Apple CEO Tim Cook criticized Facebook’s handling of the Cambridge Analytica data sharing scandal, saying, “I wouldn’t be in this situation” if he were running the company. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg later said the comments were “extremely glib” and spoke of Apple as a company that “work hard to charge you more.”

If americans are still using facebook after all the shit zucc pulls, they deserve to be misled, data mined, accused of hate speech, mind controlled by russian bots, not shown ads for good neighborhoods, banned from messaging and forced to work in Amazon wage cages.

Government intervention will not help in the long run if people are not capable of boycott.
That's why this man is Emperor.

I assure you people said the exact same things about every single antitrust breakup.
Every antitrust breakup was dumb as fuck, the companies that were affected were the benefits of massive government regulation and in the case of Standard Oil was because Standard Oil did everything better and cheaper and the competition would rather use the state as a weapon instead of actually competing by cutting costs and doing things better.

I would say breaking apart mostly cloud-based tech companies is much easier than breaking up physical infrastructure of oil extraction and refining, railroads or even analog phones. Yet all of that was actually done.
It's easier said than done, I've yet to see someone actually provide a plausible "break up" of these companies because their products are intangible. Not to mention letting the idiots in government get their hands even deeper into shit is an absolutely terrible idea.

Perhaps the government should deregulate certain industries (like financial) that block payments to wrongthinkers to let new companies compete.

I couldn't agree more. I used to be on the other side of the argument until I stopped, took in the arguments, and realized that every single argument on the pro-regulation of these services side are just excuses lazy navel-gazing fuckwits make so that they don't have to experience the mild discomfort of using one of the more cumbersome alternatives.

Besides, it's just treating the symptoms, not the disease itself. The source of pretty much all of this shit are the payment processors and the banks being able to shut off any and all funding at the drop of a hat for any reason they want to, which as long as someone's not doing something patently illegal should be in and of itself illegal imo. Were something to be done about that, actual free-speech alternatives could be allowed to compete, and probably flourish - that is if the knuckle-dragging faggots who keep using circular bullshit arguments ("nobody's over there, so it'd be stupid to use it!") could be peeled away from twitter, facebook, and youtube.

If people are really your friends or want to include you, they'll still text you to invite you to stuff (or even mail you invitations to really important stuff like weddings) and send you pictures of their kids and pets even if you don't have Facebook. I wouldn't even call deleting it a discomfort, more like a sieve.

I deleted five years ago--should've deleted in like 2008 tbh--and have never looked back. Facebook is a cesspool (duh).

Farrakhan was banned for talking poorly about jews, not black supremacy.

The most ironic part about all of that is that Milo and Loomer are both Jewish.

If there's any real reason for unpersoning Farrakhan, it's probably his hatred for the LGBT community,

Also, Farrakhan seems to be more of a token ban made to try and appear fair and even-handed even though it's obvious that he's not the real priority compared to the others.

Facebook was aiming for the leftist hate sinks like Alex Jones and Milo and threw in Louis Farrakhan as a very transparent half-assed attempt to deflect criticism.

Honestly, black supremacy might as well be considered a virtue among the SJW's and the Left hates Jews nearly as much as the so-called "Alt-Right" with the only difference between the average SJW and the average /pol/ shitposter is that the SJW is smart enough to disguise their hatred of Jews as hatred of Israel or Zionism.

They threw Farrakhan under the bus so nobody would bring him up as a counter-argument to their policies since he is very much a right-wing racist loon who is somehow beloved by the Left despite the fact that he is a far more odious and vile person than a flamboyantly gay basic bitch conservative and a loud-mouthed water filter salesman LARP'ing as Dale Gribble.

If they didn't ban Farrakhan, their double-standards would be even more obvious and even the normies would be pissed.

If someone does ask Mark Fuckerberg or any of the other Facebook higher-ups why they unpersoned Louis Farrakhan, they will probably mention his homophobia as the reason and not his antisemitism.

I mean, if they really wanted to crack down on racism and treat black supremacists with the same level of severity as white supremacists, you'd see massive crackdowns on the Black Hebrew Israelites (and maybe even some of the more hardline Black Lives Matter groups) and they'd probably label stuff like Wakanda and Black Panther as "black supremacist hate symbols" like they did with Pepe the Frog, the OK hand symbol, and clowns.

Louis Farrakhan rails against ‘Satanic Jews’ in wake of Facebook ban
By Joe Tacopino

May 10, 2019 | 12:40am

Louis Farrakhan spoke at a Catholic church Thursday night in the wake of his Facebook ban and denied that he hates Jewish people while ranting about “Satanic Jews.”

The Nation of Islam leader spoke at the controversial St. Sabina Church on Chicago’s South Side, where he claimed to not be a preacher of hatred while castigating those who he said did not follow “God’s word.”

“I’m here to separate the good Jews from the Satanic Jews,” Farrakhan said alongside radical activist Rev. Michael Pfleger, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

“I have not said one word of hate. I do not hate Jewish people. Not one that is with me has ever committed a crime against the Jewish people, black people, white people. As long as you don’t attack us, we won’t bother you.”

Farrakhan then joked about “Facebook jail” and compared it to Jesus’ followers who were locked up.

“I’m not gonna let them put you in jail, what they call Facebook jail,” he said. “Some of us did not come out tonight because they did not wish to be censored.”

The preacher also acknowledged: “I am a hated man today — you can’t even have a picture with me.”

Farrakhan spoke to hundreds in the overcrowded church, despite his presence being condemned by the Jewish community.

“I’m not a misogynist. I’m not a homophobe,” Farrakhan insisted. “Do not be angry with me if I stand on God’s word.”

Farrakhan has been labeled an extremist by the Anti-Defamation League and the Southern Poverty Law Center for allegedly making anti-Semitic, anti-white and anti-gay comments.

The controversial preacher was banned from Facebook last week along with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and right-wing personalities Milo Yiannopoulos, Laura Loomer and Joseph Watson.

Some commenters who posted on the latest vlog then PJW posted are priceless.

So you can post photos of or mention people like Hitler, Bin Laden, etc but can't even mention Paul Watson... Who's the "fascist" now?

No he's just like the Bolsheviks he's one of ((them)). Curious isn't it how they own the media, Hollywood, social media, the banks. ((They)) are the people who make the money for most countries in the world, it's odd that the only countries that don't do what the giant central banks do are the horrible places we want to go to war with.... Oops I forgot that's anti Semitic to say..... Even though genetically 97% of them are not Semitic but Kazars from modern day Ukraine and Crimea.....

I don’t support their banning, but I also don’t care what any of these people have to say enough to bother with whatever alternative they set up

The bizarre reason why several Facebook Groups just changed their privacy settings

MATT BINDERMay 16, 2019

Over the past 24 hours, panic has spread across some of Facebook's most popular groups.

Several popular Facebook Groups since Wednesday have switched their privacy settings to "secret" following the ban of a popular meme group page with nearly 500,000 members. The group Crossovers Nobody Asked For (CNAF) appears to have been targeted by a collective known as the Indonesian Reporting Commission, who falsely mass-reported CNAF for hate speech.

The practice of coordinated mass-reporting forces Facebook to take down the reported group. Screenshots from IReC’s now-deleted Facebook Page show a full list of the Facebook Groups it had targeted.

Word about the Indonesian Reporting Commission quickly spread across Facebook, causing many of the platform’s top groups to change their privacy settings to “secret” as a precaution. The secret privacy settings for Facebook Groups essentially hides the community from everyone except its current members.
“Reports of similar meme pages making the switch spurred on a lot of buzz,” said one admin from a political meme group with over 400,000 members in a statement to Mashable. “[There was] fear that [the group] could be a target next.”
“Better safe than sorry,” said another Facebook Group admin in response to why they had changed its privacy settings.
Facebook informs its users via notification when a group they're in changes its privacy settings. This caused confusion among many users when people logged into their accounts and were greeted with a blizzard of notifications about the settings change from each group they were in.

Not long after the attempted group takedowns, Facebook users allegedly discovered the identity of the Indonesian Reporting Commission's leader. This led to an explanation and apology from the individual.

“MY REASON FOR THAT WRONGDOING WAS TO DELETE OR DESTROY EVERYTHING NEGATIVE IN FACEBOOK, LIKE, SARA [RELIGIOUS OFFENSIVE JOKES], HOAX, AND OTHERS, WHO BREAK FACEBOOK RULES,” SAID THE APOLOGY POSTED ON AN INDONESIAN FACEBOOK PAGE. “ALSO...[I FOUND] SOME HATE-SPEECH OR RELIGIOUS OFFENSIVE JOKES.”

“I'M DEEPLY SORRY FOR WHAT HAPPENED TO EVERYONE, AND TO OUR WRONGDOINGS. I, AS LEADER OF IREC, WILL STOP IREC'S OPERATION, AND WE WILL TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR EVERYTHING HAPPENED,” IT CONTINUED.

EARLIER THIS MONTH, FACEBOOK REDESIGNED ITS WEBSITE AND MOBILE APPLICATIONS TO HEAVILY PROMOTE ITS FACEBOOK GROUPS FEATURE. THE COMPANY HAS BEEN HEAVILY CRITICIZED FOR ITS RELIANCE ON THE NEWS FEED AND FOR ITS VARIOUS PRIVACY ISSUES OVER THE YEARS.
AS OF THURSDAY AFTERNOON, THE GROUP THAT THE IREC HAD REMOVED, CROSSOVERS NOBODY ASKED FOR, WAS RESTORED ON FACEBOOK.

“I’VE SINCE CHANGED [THE SETTINGS] BACK AS IT SEEMS THE SCARE MAY HAVE BEEN UNWARRANTED BASED ON THE CONTENT OUR MEME PAGE HAS,” THE POLITICAL MEME GROUP ADMIN US.
MASHABLE HAS REACHED OUT TO FACEBOOK FOR COMMENT AND WILL UPDATE THIS POST WHEN WE HEAR BACK.

Know Your Meme goes more in depth. The mashable article doesn’t mention that he’s a furry.

All the drama was started by several butt hurt Indonesian Furries mad about hate speech. Their leader was doxed though and jumped for good measure.

Know Your Meme goes more in depth. Apparently Indonesian Furries were behind it all. Apparently the leader was dozed and jumped for good measure.

a very kiwi story, the game-ification of reporting tools and controlling/deplatforming content because some brown retárds are offended. The list of groups hiding is actually more interesting than the story though:

It was pretty amusing last night, if you follow a bunch of tag groups on there, as they were all running around frantically looking for a way to hide from the Indonesian Furry Scourge.

It’s crazy how much drama a dedicated third world autist could cause. I hope internet historian does a video on this.

Great. I'm sure no one will use the mass report capabilities outlined here, or Facebook's stupid "if enough people report something it must be true and should be taken down without review" policy, to sway elections or otherwise fuck with geopolitics. I'm sure it'll stay safely confined to third world furriest.

TL;DR, a bunch of butthurt pacific islander sand nigger furfags got pissy at some memes and decided to wage some holy e-war. Talk about some pretty autistic bumfuckery.

They're furries.

That's explanation enough.

Muslims in Shitholistan need to get a better hobby or a life than reporting dumb facebook groups.
