Apple has shut down Facebook’s ability to distribute internal iOS apps, from early releases of the Facebook app to basic tools like a lunch menu. A person familiar with the situation tells The Verge that early versions of Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and other pre-release “dogfood” (beta) apps have stopped working, as have other employee apps, like one for transportation. Facebook is treating this as a critical problem internally, we’re told, as the affected apps simply don’t launch on employees’ phones anymore.

The shutdown comes in response to news that Facebook has been using Apple’s program for internal app distribution to track teenage customers with a “research” app.

That app, revealed yesterday by TechCrunch, was distributed outside of the App Store using Apple’s enterprise program, which allows developers to use special certificates to install more powerful apps onto iPhones. Those apps are only supposed to be used by a company’s employees, however, and Facebook had been distributing its tracking app to customers. Facebook later said it would shut down the app.

This poses a huge issue for Facebook. While Apple provides other tools a company can use to install apps internally, Apple’s enterprise program is the main solution for widely distributing internal apps and services. In an email, a Facebook spokesperson said “I can confirm that this affects our internal apps.”

In a statement given to Recode, Apple said that Facebook was in “clear breach of their agreement with Apple.” Any developer that breaches that agreement, Apple said, has their distribution certificates revoked, “which is what we did in this case to protect our users and their data.” Apple declined to comment on shutting down all of Facebook’s internal apps in an email to The Verge.

Revoking a certificate not only stops apps from being distributed on iOS, but it also stops apps from working. And because internal apps by the same organization or developer may be connected to a single certificate, it can lead to immense headaches like the one Facebook now finds itself in where a multitude of internal apps have been shut down.

Apple and Facebook have already been bickering over privacy, but this is the first instance of Apple taking an action that directly shuts down some of Facebook’s activities. Last March, Apple CEO Tim Cook criticized Facebook’s handling of the Cambridge Analytica data sharing scandal, saying, “I wouldn’t be in this situation” if he were running the company. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg later said the comments were “extremely glib” and spoke of Apple as a company that “work hard to charge you more.”

Are we reading the same thread? I feel like you made this picture upon reading the thread title and want it to be true. The atmosphere in this thread seems to be primarily weary resignation and suspicion, I certainly haven't seen anyone suggest one ban is ok while another is out of line.

On an unrelated note, does anyone know why Farrakhan hates Jews? I would have thought Jews would be a popular race among black supremacists, because so many Jews seem willing to utterly cuck themselves for blacks.

The whole Southern Strategy thing is really a means of pitting one group of Suburban voters against another. You have one worrying that hicks are gonna force them at gunpoint to convert to Jebus and storm the place (this was literally what was used to try to stop Andrew Jackson to show how ancient it is).

25-50% of the Souths population is already black and Latino you just don't notice it because of the remnants of segregation that were never torn down properly.

If the CSA had become independent in the 1860's it would have elected a black president long before the north.

I'm saying in the sense of after the civil rights act passed the Republicans became racist to get the white southern vote didnt happen. The south didnt really flip totally Republican till the 90s.

I like how that's all they seem to care about, that he said anti-jew shit. All his comments about death to America and putting an end to white people are cool though.
 
It's disconcerting to me that there will be a large number of Americans who will agree 100% with calling these people "dangerous." The entire idea that some people's opinions, and especially these knuckleheads' opinions, are just too dangerous to be given a platform is one of the craziest things I've ever heard be a somewhat popular position. It's like they believe these people have magical Charles Manson powers and will brainwash people into doing their bidding just with the sound of their voice.

I'm really curious as to how many of these people actually think these people are dangerous, and how many of them are aware that they're not, but go along with it anyway because it's politically convenient. Or maybe it's a subconscious thing where their own mind doesn't allow them to see these people as anything other than boogeymen. I guess my point here is fuck all of Silicon Valley as hard as possible.

Nah Israel is fine to criticize if you are on the left. They elected Ilhan Omar and their voting base is not very supportive of Israel anymore. On the right its super high though. If he stuck to criticizing Israel he could say whatever he wanted. It's saying Hitler was great and that Obama is a jew that gets him dinged.

I have a dream Ilhan Omar is going to do a lot of harm this election cycle. If you’re Jewish you can’t support a party that embraces her anti-semitism.

Same. Really hope it drives any Jews who have an ounce of care about Israel and arent totally cucked to the right. The Orthodox Jews are already firmly in the right but it would be good to see conservative and reform Jews driven to the right. It's just unfortunate the media has been able to successfully make a dude who wore a kippah to the western wall and has Jewish family to somehow be a horrible Anti-Semite. The fact that they are going full socialist and Jews are generally pretty good at being wealthy and running successful businesses should help too.

They believe in the Islamic principle that "from eloquent speech is surely magic", i.e. that people with a slick enough tongue can convert anybody to anything.
