Apple has shut down Facebook’s ability to distribute internal iOS apps, from early releases of the Facebook app to basic tools like a lunch menu. A person familiar with the situation tells The Verge that early versions of Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and other pre-release “dogfood” (beta) apps have stopped working, as have other employee apps, like one for transportation. Facebook is treating this as a critical problem internally, we’re told, as the affected apps simply don’t launch on employees’ phones anymore.

The shutdown comes in response to news that Facebook has been using Apple’s program for internal app distribution to track teenage customers with a “research” app.

That app, revealed yesterday by TechCrunch, was distributed outside of the App Store using Apple’s enterprise program, which allows developers to use special certificates to install more powerful apps onto iPhones. Those apps are only supposed to be used by a company’s employees, however, and Facebook had been distributing its tracking app to customers. Facebook later said it would shut down the app.

This poses a huge issue for Facebook. While Apple provides other tools a company can use to install apps internally, Apple’s enterprise program is the main solution for widely distributing internal apps and services. In an email, a Facebook spokesperson said “I can confirm that this affects our internal apps.”

In a statement given to Recode, Apple said that Facebook was in “clear breach of their agreement with Apple.” Any developer that breaches that agreement, Apple said, has their distribution certificates revoked, “which is what we did in this case to protect our users and their data.” Apple declined to comment on shutting down all of Facebook’s internal apps in an email to The Verge.

Revoking a certificate not only stops apps from being distributed on iOS, but it also stops apps from working. And because internal apps by the same organization or developer may be connected to a single certificate, it can lead to immense headaches like the one Facebook now finds itself in where a multitude of internal apps have been shut down.

Apple and Facebook have already been bickering over privacy, but this is the first instance of Apple taking an action that directly shuts down some of Facebook’s activities. Last March, Apple CEO Tim Cook criticized Facebook’s handling of the Cambridge Analytica data sharing scandal, saying, “I wouldn’t be in this situation” if he were running the company. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg later said the comments were “extremely glib” and spoke of Apple as a company that “work hard to charge you more.”

You are willing to defend asset flips and crappy games on a dying complacent site run by an obese has been.

This thread is a disaster. I genuinely wanted to discuss this topic, because it is interesting to me and I am a free speech absolutist, and if people disagree with that stance I would like to discuss it. But it seems like everyone who does disagree is just shitposting, which makes sense given where we are, but it makes the thread incoherent. Or maybe you are all serious and I am just autistic. Either way, flush this cesspool of a thread.

As if wasn't enough, but Zuckerberg like big gouvernment because it's his new daddy and mommy. https://www.cnbc.com/2019/03/30/mar...-need-a-more-active-role-for-governments.html ( http://archive.is/I4o6I )

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Saturday called for governments to play a greater role in regulating the Internet, citing four areas where he believes better rules are needed.

Zuckerberg said new regulations are needed to protect society from harmful content, ensure election integrity, protect people's privacy and to guarantee data portability.
Facebook has faced a torrent of public criticism over its handling of Russian intervention in the 2016 U.S. presidential election and its policies on hate speech that many governments and users consider too lax. At the same time, conservative lawmakers in the U.S. have accused Facebook of political bias and censorship.
Zuckerberg proposed regulating harmful content by setting up independent bodies to set standards for what is considered terrorist propaganda and hate speech and is therefore prohibited.

"Internet companies should be accountable for enforcing standards on harmful content," Zuckerberg said. "It's impossible to remove all harmful content from the internet, but when people use dozens of different sharing services — all with their own policies and processes — we need a more standardized approach."
Facebook is also creating an independent body so people can appeal its decisions. Zuckerberg said Facebook is currently working with governments, including French officials, to make sure its systems to review content are effective.

I guess not everyone will like that vlog from Styx about Zuckerberg.

I quoted some Youtube commenters.

Zuckerberg was born in 1984...it all makes sense..

Zuckerberg is Part of the Far Left who shut down anyone he disagrees with. Do yourself a favor and delete your Social Media. It's pointless using it especially in this day & age when the Media only swings one way.

KKK wasn't banned. KKK was actually still able to host talking platforms in states. People ridiculed them (openly as in being able to host talks) and then people distanced themselves from the KKK.

That has absolutely nothing to do with censorship.... >.> I thought I made that pretty clear?

Edit: What do you think I meant they ran on an "Open platform?"

Fact:
Superman destroyed the second iteration of the KKK.

Go ahead and google it, it's a hell of a :story:

Yep, the early serials exposed all the goofy codes and lingo they used and helped make them the laughing-stock they are today.

Edit:

It's why letting all their dumb shit see the light of day is important, most of it's goofy and comes off as odd and abnormal. Most people don't want to associate with something like that so fearing it as a recruitment tool comes off as silly to me.

This thread is an excellent demonstration on why censorship is bad, even of grossly offensive and stupid shit.

For example, we now have a couple users on display showing a complete disregard for facts, logic, and consistency, and who instead prefer making snide one liners to try to dismiss the conversation, knowing their side doesn't hold up worth shit. Now we have more examples of it, so in the future, we can recognize when we've started down that road and just stop wasting our time with them. Thanks Tentaclese and Darkmage, now I can waste less time in the future reading bullshit when you decide to mentally check out and switch over to shitposting.

Plus, it's nice to see, even though the assumption is Kiwi Farms is a bunch of racist white supremicists, at the end of the day, white guilt and internalized anti-white racism are just as strong here as in the rest of our society.

I don't have white guilt. I love waking up every morning white and make sure to always check my skin to make sure that it never darkens. Dear lord could you imagine waking up black or god forbid hispanic or some shit. I think I would jump out a window or walk in front of a car on a highway.

Still banning white supremacist pages on facebook suits me just fine. They never look like John Smith from the Man in the High Castle. They always look like the unironic version of this:

It is not really fear or guilt that makes me fine with it. More like sneering condescension. I make no apologies for it either. If they stopped looking like inbred animals or sexual deviants I might think them worthy of not being censored.

lol calm down, facebook banning racism is not the end of free speech

I thought I would take a different approach to this today and look in on a the facebooks of people who are known to be Black nationalists. Since the discussion has sorta turned to is "Why not blacks too?" I urge people to take a look at Gazi Kodzo's facebook. If for no other reason, the guy is hilarious.

https://www.facebook.com/GaziKodzo

If this guy or some unknown black dude shot 50 white people at a Christian church in the name of the Nation of Islam or something like that, I don't think this guy would be on facebook anymore.

Yeah, and despite idiocy like this, it is the best place I can find to seriously discuss stuff without fear of bans for wrong opinions.
You not liking the obvious conclusion and channeling dynastia doesn't make that not true. No offense intended to dynastia who is at least consistent in his trolling.
The obvious conclusion is that you’re an exceptional individual who picked a place were people laugh at exceptional people on the internet. And for channeling the “inner dynastia” thing I stopped taking you seriously were you starting regurgitating stupid skeptic-tier talking points and incompetently or deliberately misinterpreted several people’s arguments including my own.

What on earth does "Skeptic-tier" mean? That's a weird insult. But you're probably correct to assume incompetence before deliberate misinterpretation, assuming there actually was any at all.

Censorship is ok for races whose race has had a member, in a widely publicized manner, kill enough of a different race(or religion, Islam isn't a race).

See, that's just racist censorship. That's the issue. Do you not get how that racism using definition of which censorship is ok is racist? How the entire argument of "People that looked like X killed people that looked like Y, so now other people who look like X owe people that look like Y" is racist, and furthermore, perpetuates racism? If some rando black dude kills a bunch of rando white people, why does that effect some other random black supremacist? Do you think white supremacists are just better at making people violent, and the black supremacists are bad at it? Is racial supremacy fundamentally wrong or isn't it? Is racism a useful and valuable tool that white people have just lost the privilege of using for using it poorly? Or is racism bad, but fun, so it's only fair non-whites get their turn?

Does race nationalism/separatism lead to violence? If yes, why allow any? If no, why censor any? Or do you believe certain races are just predisposed to violence?
