Apple has shut down Facebook’s ability to distribute internal iOS apps, from early releases of the Facebook app to basic tools like a lunch menu. A person familiar with the situation tells The Verge that early versions of Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and other pre-release “dogfood” (beta) apps have stopped working, as have other employee apps, like one for transportation. Facebook is treating this as a critical problem internally, we’re told, as the affected apps simply don’t launch on employees’ phones anymore.

The shutdown comes in response to news that Facebook has been using Apple’s program for internal app distribution to track teenage customers with a “research” app.

That app, revealed yesterday by TechCrunch, was distributed outside of the App Store using Apple’s enterprise program, which allows developers to use special certificates to install more powerful apps onto iPhones. Those apps are only supposed to be used by a company’s employees, however, and Facebook had been distributing its tracking app to customers. Facebook later said it would shut down the app.

This poses a huge issue for Facebook. While Apple provides other tools a company can use to install apps internally, Apple’s enterprise program is the main solution for widely distributing internal apps and services. In an email, a Facebook spokesperson said “I can confirm that this affects our internal apps.”

In a statement given to Recode, Apple said that Facebook was in “clear breach of their agreement with Apple.” Any developer that breaches that agreement, Apple said, has their distribution certificates revoked, “which is what we did in this case to protect our users and their data.” Apple declined to comment on shutting down all of Facebook’s internal apps in an email to The Verge.

Revoking a certificate not only stops apps from being distributed on iOS, but it also stops apps from working. And because internal apps by the same organization or developer may be connected to a single certificate, it can lead to immense headaches like the one Facebook now finds itself in where a multitude of internal apps have been shut down.

Apple and Facebook have already been bickering over privacy, but this is the first instance of Apple taking an action that directly shuts down some of Facebook’s activities. Last March, Apple CEO Tim Cook criticized Facebook’s handling of the Cambridge Analytica data sharing scandal, saying, “I wouldn’t be in this situation” if he were running the company. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg later said the comments were “extremely glib” and spoke of Apple as a company that “work hard to charge you more.”

Facebook is a private company, if they don’t want to host chucklefucks like Richard Spencer they don’t have to.

There’s also a big difference between not hating yourself for being white and hating non-whites to the point where you want them all ejected from your country. Again, I don’t blame Facebook for not wanting literal white supremacists on their platform.

This argument has fallen apart completely in recent years and I don't know why people keep parroting it. Tech giants have reached a size and a position where they are almost indistinguishable from government agencies. They are capable of large scale civil rights violations effecting billions of people. If the US spun off the FBI as a crown corporation, would that absolve them of any duty to rights?

We've seen, literally within the last couple weeks so this should be fresh in your mind, coordinated efforts to censor content between tech giants. That is not private enterprise acting in a competitive way. That is collusion between power structures to govern.

you can't even say "man are tr3sh" on the site, at least they're being somewhat fair for once.

they should just ban all users.

So does this mean that saying "it's OK to be white" is hate speech? How about supporting POTUS on immigration? Or supporting POTUS in general?

Corporations have all sorts of moral and tertiary legal obligations but expecting them to follow the spirit of the first amendment is somehow overstepping their rightful jurisdiction. ?

The problem is that these platforms are no longer an option. These days, without social media, you don’t exist. It severely limits your employment opportunities or even dating. Giving these immensely powerful platforms the right to basically vaporize whomever they want for the crime of wrongthink is IMO a bad idea.
Literally no one I've met IRL, whether for friendships or dating, has had a problem with me not being on Facebook. Half of the time they respond with "that's probably a good call, wish I was able to quit". The only social media site I think is becoming worryingly required for employment is LinkedIn, but they're also not banning people all the time because it's a professional network and, outside of the worst lolcows, people don't powerlevel their personal politics on the platform.

Facebook is dumb for doing this because it'll just punt the white nationalists to even more isolated spheres of the internet where they can all further radicalize each other instead of having less extreme people see their retardation and mock them for it, but if you seriously think any social media platform tied to your real name is required for existing in the 21st century you're too extremely online. Payment processors, email accounts, other more neutral means of communication doing this is concerning, but not fucking social media.

Facebook will also begin directing users who try to post content associated with those ideologies to a nonprofit that helps people leave hate groups, Motherboard has learned.
That's just going to fuel the conspiracy theories more since after the CVille protests and the NZ shooting sites like the Daily Stormer have managed to take advantage of the censorship angle. Hell look at Infowars, they've been censored slightly less (they still have their domain) and now Alex Jones can say that the media's actually trying to shut him down.

Using Facebook is a sure sign of chromosomal imbalance, but this really doesn't matter because the only people who use the platform are too old to be woke on the JQ and white genocide.

They all grew up hearing about muh 6 gorillion and being indoctrinated into the cult of foreskin thieves.

...and risk pissing off China (assuming they even allow facebook still) and India? I don't think so.

you guys need to watch some Indian movies, this is one of the latest Bolywood blockbusters where civilized white looking people slaughter hordes of dumb black negro savages. Pretty much every good character is white and all the evil shits are black in every single Indian movie I've seen. If Euros & Ameries think that Indians are not a racist bunch, they are in for some rude kultural enrichment.

If facebook is against white supremacy, why are they supporting a white supremacist coup in Venezuela?

You can't post a lot of things on facebook, I'd like to post cartoon tits there but they don't allow that, I don't see why a bunch of low IQ whites get to plan a race war. Cry more about it though.
