Only nice thing I can say is that I hope the Supergirl actress gets better stuff since she was the only new thing in this entire movie that was actually okay.

RIPD is decent shut-off-your-brain flick with good performances and script that... look, see step one, shut off your brain. If you have friends over to drink, pick it up.
I believe RIPD was so low because it got a very limited release to qualify it for awards and was really just a direct-to-dvd affair.

On one hand, it's kind of sad that Warner is still a whole decade behind trying to set up their own cinematic universe even during the twilight of the superhero era, but on the other, they thought that buying puff pieces for a film with a ridiculous story about a character played by a person nobody liked would recoup their losses.
The theories are the next big thing will be movie adaptations of video games, because it's a huge market with plenty of IPs, especially on the back of the relative success of Super Mario and Sonic. The big studios are probably going to take a while to disentangle themselves from their superhero franchises, so hopefully some new people can get a start.
