I guess you could argue that Batista did transfer over to Hollywood quite successfully, but while Batista was the Heavyweight Champ I wouldn't consider him to have been the main face of the WWE like Hulk, Macho Man, Rock, and Cena were. Also Batista was quite smart in that he was just happy to play supporting roles films rather than going for than just tying his name to a lead film which could potentially typecast him.

Also I'd say The Rock's best picture is Pain & Gain. Michael Bay's direction in that movie was sloppy but it was still a fun story and true crime tale it was based on was stranger than fiction.

Everyone knows Hello Kitty, do you think people will go in droves to watch a fucking Hello Kitty film? Of course not.

Flash is a meme hero, the one people point out to prove how fucking retard comic books are. Just like Aquaman, but in this case, people watched this film to see Jason Momoa's six-pack. The Flash had nothing going for it, Erza is uglier than Michael Jackson after 100 botched plastic surgeries.

Why are they doing this and all these movies came out in this year? Because like Comic Books they the basic story is already written out. All Hollywood has to do is "punch it up" by adding drama to the script. Best yet these types of movies are affordable. The entertainment ultimately is a reflection of the whims of the audience. We appearently want safe, boring nostalgia.

The minute they started playing Virtual Insanity in the Beanie Babies trailer i was like ".....why tho?"

I actually want a biopic about Lisa Frank. The stories coming out about that place sound like a nightmare and I look forward to seeing what they can do.

It's no indicator of what "we" want, because Hollywood doesn't know that. They miss the mark badly all the time.

They're doing this because it's easy to get corporate money to finance your movie. Product Placement has become Product Film.

I assume you're referring to The Flash and I don't see how this abortion can be blamed on Gunn. Yes, he changed the ending but the movie had way more problems then just the ending and mercilessly killing off the Keaton Batman and Supergirl.

This is a fairer criticism however I would counter that
a)The studio chose that, if they had any faith in the film not being shit they could easily have done the cinematic only release as others did
b)Other films which did the simultaenous release model still did either much better box office numbers (like Black Widow), or did comparable numbers to SS (like Wonder Woman 1984 and Birds of Prey), despite the fact they were far more heavily impacted by the pandemic by coming out much closer to the height of it.

I mean other than thinking it was a bit of a dick move to announce he was being cut, right after he announced his return, I couldn't give a shit about it. Hell if anything I'm glad because that seemed to lead directly to his Amazon/WH40k announcement which to me personally is a much more interesting if it actually happens since, unlike the DCEU at large, I have some actual interest in 40k.

From what little I've seen of the DCEU I agree the best thing for all concerned is to kill it with fire. I have no problem with him wiping the slate clean in principle, I just think from what little I've seen of his work, and what IPs they're going with, that the next attempt at an Extended Universe is likely to be an even bigger failure than the first.

At no point did I say they weren't bombs in their own right. However since you insisted in your post that context matters, I figured I'd point out the relevant context that other films released under the same, or worse, circumstances still performed equally or better at the box office, almost like the pandemic or the simultaneous streaming release don't entirely explain away The Suicide Squad being a colossal bomb.

That being said we're kinda wandering way off topic, and I don't particularly wanna continue to derail the thread more with unrelated shitposting about Gunn, so if for some reason you want to continue it, feel free to DM me.

In an effort to get the thread somewhat back on track: I just came across a project called The Flash: Escape From the Midnight Circus, an Apple Podcast project coming out next month. The reason I think this could be relevant is because despite it being a brand new project, and despite Gunn seemingly saying in his DCEU announcement video that the same actors would be playing their characters across all media forms, it doesn't star Ezra Miller. Is this a tacit admission that Miller is done as The Flash? I mean it's not like Miller's too busy, or too big of a name, to do some voice acting work right now.

The Suicide Squad cannot be held to the same standard as the other DC Flops because it debuted on HBO Max the same day it was on theaters. Why pay money to see if in a theater when you could watch it from your home?

I do think Batgirl would have been better. Yes I know. I know. I'm sorry. But add to it that Academy Award Winner Brendan Fraser was totally prepared to bring a much needed energy to it.
