Irony is if they stuck to their guns and didn't try so hard to ape Marvel's likeness, they would probably be enjoying more success than they have now by virtue of not being like Marvel.
I cant help but feel sorry for the DCEU. I know Zack Snyder wasnt the "ideal" guy to lead it but I also think that his style made it clear that this isnt and will not be anything like the MCU.
They also fucked up by not going with the plan of giving each member of the trinity their own solo movies before going with BvS. That whole movie felt like an entire phase worth of movies into one.
Then Suicide Squad happened and I honestly cant believe that movie still exists. Outside of Leto showing isnt just a bad actor but a bad co-worker (and Morbius shows he hasnt learn jack and shit from it)
Then Justice League, the super hero movie that should have been legendary when done right, came and sealed the fate of the DCEU.
With all of that said, there is a reason people fought for the Snyder Cut and the Snyderverse as a whole...because in a way, its the best shot DC had at this point. This whole mess was due to not sticking to a single vision and trying to please a Marvel addicted mainstream (not that Im saying that the movies didnt have a lot of flaws but I feel also that everyone was addicted to how marvel did its movies so, if it wasnt like that, it wasnt "correct")
And it annoys me how Warner is shameless about displeasing the Snyderverse fan that stuck around through thick and thin by rebooting everything through the Flashpoint movie (which feels like DC trying to rip off No Way Home at this point...despite The Flash movie being announced first).
I feel like giving the Snyderverse another chance and just letting it do its own thing at its own pace would be preferable at this point compared to what Warner seems to be trying right now (Replacing gender bending Supes and Bats because, sure, their gender was the problem...)
And like I said, Cavill and Affleck are willing to come back in solo movies, which could help fix the image of their respective versions. But no, lets keep the unstable psycho thing around and give us a rain of bad PR.
TL;DR: The DCEU had potential but through a combination of too little and too much executive meddling, too much internal corporate politics and a public unwilling to give it a proper chance lead to a bad state that Warner is only making it worse
