Hey, I'm a white male, I've never been on a cruise, or a European vacation! I get one week paid vacation a year, and use it to just not go to work for a week..... you mean I'm entitled to more than that? WHERE'S MY DAMN PRIVILEGE?! I must've just slipped through the cracks of the white power establishment that helps everyone who happens to be white get rich without trying.... who do I submit the correction paperwork to? I'd really like that European vacation you know. In fact, I believe I'm owed two due to your negligence in properly empowering me over those inferior minorities....

I would argue that ALL of EF's ideas of oppression are "First World Problems". The stuff that actually exists in other places, they don't seem too concerned about.

To do that everyday femminism would have to consider class and affluence in their model of privalidge which might raise awkward questions for the middle class lesbians.

The article does mention class privilege as well and so does the comment section on their FB. Even if you're a lower-class person who camps with their used car and cheap tent, you still have to feel how privileged you are for doing that and enjoying yourself. Or if your outdoor activity is jogging or walking around the block, you should still realize that there are disabled people who can't do what you do, there are places too dangerous, some areas don't even have sidewalks and there are lower-class who are too tired from working their butts off to have the chance to do that. It's like EF just hates fun.
 
Yep. It's not like disabled people don't have to worry about lack of health care health care. Or trans people have to deal with the threat of discrimination in the work place, or being assaulted by strangers. Minorities don't have to deal with discrimination in employeement, or that minorities are more likely to live in poverty. Nope, it's all about dating and going on vacations. (Sometimes they may address one of these things, but it's always in ways to make you feel guilty about having to deal with them. Never, "hey, you should NOT be ashamed if you're a victim of abuse. Or "yes, you CAN find help. Here are several resources blah blah blah.")

And people, if you can afford this stuff, you sure as hell better spend every minute feeling guilty about it. Not for one second should you enjoy yourself.

You are not even close to being the only liberal who hates this SJW bullshit.
The intelligent ones see the bullshit... the stupid ones get indoctrinated by the bullshit and then preach it without ever thinking for themselves... but the same can be said for any group, any part of the political spectrum, etc.

Liberals are all about progressive ideologies and equality... so the fact that anyone calls SJW types "liberals" is a huge oxymoron.

People only call SJW types liberals because they all happen to be on the left.

Were this a different time people of their demeanor and morals would be on the right instead.

SJWs were able to grow into what they are because US politics trended largely left for 8 years. We have almost a decade of people who think all they need to accomplish in life is being on "the right side of history", and having Obama as president basically made them believe they'd already won without ever having to do anything themselves.

Now the conditions are ripe to see a right-leaning version of the same. Over the next five years, prepare to see a rise in right-leaning lolcows. It's been suggested that they'll resemble klan members and preach hate, but my personal guess is that they'll be more of the SovCit variety.

The current crop of SJWs are suddenly going to see that they'll have to do more than complain in order to stay relevant.

I'm just old enough to remember their previous incarnation from my childhood. They were called the Parents Television Council and they were trying to fabricate the story that satanic cults were sweeping the nation and sacrificing thousands of newborn babies. Who were these babies and where were the actual records of them going missing? That's dangerous thinking there, sounds like you don't like Jesus if you're talking like that. The best way to defeat the satanists was (you guessed it) silencing dissenting opinions. And yes, they were on the right instead of the left, because political ideology matters not to the navel-gazing ideologue who must create a bogeyman in order to feel accomplished.

Yes and no. I don't think it's correct to say that US politics have trended left. We really don't have a major left-leaning party anymore. The Republicans are so insanely right that Reagan would be spinning in his grave, and the Democrats are essentially a moderate republican party now (Obama and Hillary would've been republicans if they ran 30 years ago).

Now, I think the popular zeitgeist is more what you're talking about. Current SJWs are basically the culmination of 15 solid years of comedy news like the Daily Show teaching privileged young adults that 1) they are entitled to be entertained as well as educated by their news, and if they don't have the former then the latter should be dismissed; and 2) that their feel-good extreme slacktivism is "the norm" and anyone to the right of Stalin or Che (read: the ignorant cartoonish parody of what Stalin and Che really believed that these Starbucks-major college students have in their heads) is "fringe", conveniently ignoring the fact that there are just about the same amount of people in the country who get their information from Fox News and Breitbart as who get it from Comedy Central and Salon, if not more.

So how do they ignore that fact, and remain ignorant of a Democrat party leadership that doesn't match their own stated values except in the most superficial ways? Well because the thought leaders and voices of the SJWs are all privileged children living lavishly on daddy's checkbook, and therefore they have the option to tune out reality because the rosy fantasy gives them a much easier path to being the hero. But we already knew that part.

You could argue that the alt-right is essentially a mirror version of the SJWs; especially given how they like to whine and cry and shout "The sky is falling!" when things don't go their way.

But indeed, the lolcow political spectrum is going to head right in the future, arguably whether or not Trump gets reelected.

I wouldn't blame the Daily Show and Colbert Report. They were comedy first and foremost, making fun of the news, and if people thought it was a good substitute for news then that's their fault.

All these SJW sites, however, are a more likely culprit, given that they have a pretense of being real news.

I don't hold people like Jon Stewart personally culpable. Hell, in the early years of his tenure on the Daily Show he was very openly and vocally disdainful of this trend; he quieted down a bit as time went on I think only because he just felt defeated as the tides of laziness and slacktivism were too attractive to his audience. The SJW sites were the next level though: they saw the trend that the Daily Show accidentally started, and they deliberately monetized it. They saw the dollar value of stoking divisions between different people and inciting fear and segregation.

On a serious note, this is the part I find most alarming. There's a financial incentive to villainize the opposition and engender irrational fear. And the benefits of NOT doing those things are very abstract, which is beyond the vision of most people.
 
The internet shoulders most of the blame (though they weren't trying to do it) because back in the day of the evening news, they couldn't give Cronkite or Rather a script that wandered too far from the middle ground without losing 50% of their audience. And, there were only 3 channels, really, meaning there was this mutually-assured-destruction doctrine that could be enforced, you go radical and your opponents mop up your viewers and the ad money, and you go down in flames.

Nowadays, you are longer bound to traditional passive network format. The news is active now, sought out, and as so, the internet functions as a giant sieve you can use to filter out any news you don't like, convincing you your opinion is not only right, but obviously so. Media outlets no longer have any incentive to be moderate, you'll lose subscribers to someone who gladly will be as frothy as the viewers want and the climate of political stability of yesterday's news is gone.

Radicalism and mainsteam news that is borderline propaganda is the inevitable result.

The 24 hour cycle only makes it worse.
