But seriously, I've only ever seen two CPAP machines in person. So
I'm not sure this is 100% accurate, but aren't most of those machines designed to be easy to disassemble for a good cleaning? Given we're talking about its use in a nonmedical environment and all, you'd think a rube like Bobbert could manage that much.
 
I'm sure it's not too difficult if you've got the instructions handy but those have probably disappeared. However, I wouldn't be confident that Bob could assemble a lego set without multiple recorded by Bob calls to tech support if he had instructions.

My mom has a CPAP and yeah, it is easy to disassemble. And you can easily get a new hose and mask (with her's anyway). And you are only supposed to use distilled water with it. But they are probably using tap water from a dirty container, and are too lazy to replace parts.
