I'm not sure why aside from maybe it makes people pay attention to him for a little bit, but he tends to focus a lot on mass tragedies. He posted about Oklahoma city I believe, a mass school shooting, he mentions 9/11 twice in the book, the Boston Marathon bombing (I believe that was a it never happened conspiracy post if I remember correctly), when that girl was found in captivity after being kidnapped for over a decade and gave birth in captivity, etc etc. Never anything like "oh, it's such a tragedy, please pray for the victims" like you pointed out, just always "hey, look, a thing happened!"

Yeah - this is why, in a lot of his videos, he talks about how "this tribulation I'm facing is proof that the Bible's right and that we're in the end times!" and when he talks about "the great falling away" and stuff like that. One thing the Bible is really good at is being just vague enough, especially in the prophecies, where someone looking hard enough can find anything to confirm what they're feeling. I bet that's why the armageddon passages resonate so well with him because they suggest that there's a reason behind all of the oppression and trials he's gone through and that it'll all end soon when the diabetes takes him away when the Rapture happens.
