The internet is weird when it comes to Eugenia. Some people actually paint her as this big villain because "she's setting such a bad example to everyone who is watching," as if she's in her right state of mind? Why not actually yell at YouTube for letting her channel continue for kids to watch?
Sure, she's technically in her mid-20s, but anyone with a functioning brain can tell that her maturity is extremely stunted. She acts no older than a pre-teen. To write her actions off as "She's an adult and she should know better" is entirely the incorrect way to approach this sad situation.
In my opinion, it's obvious that she's mentally, emotionally, and physically unwell and that her home/family life is not normal or healthy. But sure, let's all be angry at her because she has shown support for Shane Dawson in the midst of his "cancellation," lol (thanks, Twitter). Shane manipulated and used her as well, when she probably thinks she made a best friend.
And some of her "funny stories" about her childhood are extremely fucked up. This is a girl who has been abused, bullied, and used for her entire life. I feel extremely sorry for her in so many ways.
I disagree completely, she definitely is mentally compromised but she’s not mentally retarded or unaware of the thousands of comments she gets from 12 year olds about how they want to look like her. She’s covertly narcissistic and proana (her Instagram full of poses that flaunt her bones should show that), she clearly body checks and admired herself in viewfinder nearly every moment of every video, and she gaslights by pretending to be unaware along with the squeaky high voice that is not her natural voice, as evidenced by old videos. Anorexia is not a virus but her influence is undeniable, EDs can be socially spread/worsened hence the existence of proana and “weight loss coaches”. Her reddit isn’t very conspiratorial it just has lots of evidence that kiwi farms has never gathered on Eugenia.
She’s pretty much ALR (as sick as her too, on the opposite spectrum), but hidden by a sweet naive facade and with actual damage to others. Just like ALR, who is malnourished from eating nothing but empty calories and thus mentally compromised, Eugenia is malnourished and mentally compromised from eating close to nothing. Does that make either of them unable to manipulate/give them childlike innocence? I certainly don’t see that argument made for Amberlynn, wonder why, it’s almost like you can still be aware of and responsible for your own actions despite being traumatized and mentally stunted.
Eugenia is fully aware that her kid fan base are exposed to grown men and predators in her chats, she’s fully aware that many young kids aim to look like her and believe her when she lies that she is healthy and happy (in her own words, naturally skinny), because they are impressionable kids. She’s more dangerous than ALR, just a Better actor. Not a conspiracy once you’ve seen enough evidence. Nothing innocent about intentionally glamorizing a deadly disorder
I am kind of on the fence about this. I think you might both be right, though. On one hand, it seems pretty apparent that she is dealing with some kind of trauma. To what extent, I can't say, but it really doesn't matter. It could have been one incident that shook her to her core because she has absolutely no coping mechanisms or real support system. It also could have been a series of events that have brainwashed her into this PTSD-fuckery life. I think it's safe to assume something happened to her at some point though. *nOt To PoWeRlEvEl* but one traumatic event can definitely lead someone down the path of more traumatic events that could have been avoided had real coping skills and a support system been implemented earlier on. Either way, it is hard to hold her fully responsible for the condition she is in.
On the other hand, I don't think she is totally mentally stunted or unable to control her actions. I think her entire internet persona is a selfish one driven by a selfish nature. Then again, anorexia is a pretty selfish disease. I agree that she is self-aware enough to know what she is doing and who she is influencing. As previously mentioned, she didn't always have this persona of pure positivity mixed with naivety. I think this might be one way of coping for her because it allows her to remain acting ignorant to everyone's concerns. She's not saying she's naturally skinny anymore or that she just can't gain weight like she was a few years ago. She isn't totally ignoring the elephant in the room when it comes to her weight anymore, instead she just kind of brushes past it without making up stories. That's a start, I think, to maybe her admitting herself into recovery, *only* if she is continued to be pushed further down that road. However, she has been very aware of the "sit and spin" incidents as being sexual and she is very aware of the people who are active in her community, a lot of those being grown adults with perverse intentions.
I think I'm of the belief that she is for sure stunted emotionally for a 26 year old woman and is for sure handling some serious trauma, but also that she is totally aware of her surroundings and the goings-on within her community (it is her entire life after all). I think the selfish nature of her disease extends beyond herself at this point, and I think she is aware of it, but her need for affirmation and attention surpasses any guilty conscience she may have.
In a nutshell, she needs help, but she also doesn't give a single fuck about anyone but her own wants and needs.
