What would be the point? I’m sure they gave her an offer to voluntarily go into inpatient treatment, which I have no doubt she would turn down. Even if doctors managed to extend her stay after a 5150, they know it’s completely pointless as far as saving her life goes. It would just delay the inevitable while simultaneously taking up a bed for someone who perhaps is deep in their own ED but not yet seen as a hopeless case. It’s not like she is a danger to anyone beyond herself. While I accept her streaming her skeletal frame to other anorexics could be contributing to their illness, it’s also a cautionary tale to many others.

CT is one of the states without a 5150 hold, IIRC. They have another method of involuntary commitment and it’s harder to meet than the typical 5150 which is already hard.

You get the feeling their laws were structured to protect rich old or eccentric people from greedy relatives getting them committed to steal their estates or power of attorney. It’s a little surprising just because out of control rich kid addicts abound in CT and you’d think they’d have loopholes to rein them in, but that isn’t the case.
