An agreement on Tuesday by four major U.S. internet companies to block illegal hate speech from their services in Europe within 24 hours shows the tight corner the companies find themselves in as they face mounting pressure to monitor and control content.

The new European Union "code of conduct on illegal online hate speech" states that Facebook Inc, Google's YouTube, Twitter Inc and Microsoft will review reports of hate speech in less than 24 hours and remove or disable access to the content if necessary.

This will essentially give sjw control of the internet in the EU.

If KF ever does anything positive. If we ever do any moralfagging whatsoever, it should be to fight against this sort of bullshit internet censorship, especially when it's coming from governments that are supposed to value free speech and dissent.

This is the EU, their governments don't value free speech and dissent because it might offend the dangerhairs and ISIS.

@Dynastia, how do I offend the dangerhairs and ISIS without putting any real effort into it? I'm talking like real slacktivist shit.

Is encryption also illegal in the EU. If not then hate speech could just be encrypted

This is irrelevant. If people are being denied the ability to actually publicly spread and advocate their ideas, then their right of free speech is being infringed.

I find it incredibly ironic that the EU protects the wholly invented right to freedom of movement (across international borders!) but not the right to freedom of speech that has long been recognized as necessary by all Western democracies.

That's silly. SJWs are just a bunch of crazy people on tumblr with no real power or influence over anything.
Sadly they are not a 4chan Boogeyman made by alt right cucks.
They exist, have large amounts of political power in the Left, control most of the education.
That's the situation in Brazil,a highly conservative and religious country.
I can't even fathom the power they have in a developed, welfare state like Europe.

European states have been doing this since the early '90s and it has a lot more to do with the government wanting to control speech in countries with a piss poor history of protecting free speech than it does some murky conspiracy.

Of course this is less about censoring actual hate speech than this is about silencing anyone they disagree with

Also betting six gorillion that anti-white/anti-male/anti-Christian posts will still be allowed because "hate speech = slander + power" bullshit

The biggest problem with restricting free speech in regards to hate speech and other "unacceptable" speech is this: who gets to decide what should be censored? What are the criteria? The vagueness makes it easy for a slippery slope to appear.

Considering who usually pulls the shit? The French government. The criteria is they don't like it.

It's not about hate speech. The EU is facing intense backlash for the incredible amount of rape/crime being committed by mostly Muslim migrants. The EU desperately wants the criticism to disappear now and this is how they're attempting to do it. Instead of doing the sensible thing like not mass importing rapists.

At least the good 'ol US of A will still be there to point and laugh at Europe, just like God intended.

The President can't overrule the Supreme Court. These aren't the days of Andrew Jackson.

[Euroskepticism Intensifies]

I was wavering on the Brexit idea and now I'm leaning toward preferring the UK pull out just to weaken this out of control entity.

The Frogs illegalized encryption for a long time and has only somewhat relaxed this in recent years because otherwise they were basically giving up their commercial secrets to every hacker in the world.
