Holding doesn't make sense tbh. The stock is massively overvalued. For comparison - Nvidia which I think we can all agree is a bit of a bubble has a P/E of ~60. Tesla has a P/E above 100. None of the fundamentals indicate that the stock has anywhere to go but down.
It does. But! The company still depends somewhat on the EV tax breaks to stimulate sales, and also had a large loan from the US government to hopefully see them through to full profitability. Musk is now in charge of the US government and might well choose to fuck then.
This is definitely a factor but if I had to pick between hodling TSLA and hodling RIVN, the choice is pretty obvious. Even if TSLA gets some sweetheart deals thanks to Elon's involvement, the stock price is just not sustainable without undergoing correction. Hell, I think selling, holding cash, and then rebuying TSLA in ten years would probably be a smarter use of money than continuing to hodl TSLA.

He was born rich. Rich people prop each other up, and if you are able to rub elbows with the elites then you are set. I think the take off point, aside from the affluence, was successfully suing to be a TSLA founder (which he wasnt) and the ouster of the two founders. Built on the backs of people that did the work prior and coasting the entire time.

To give him credit where it's due, Elon is a massive gambler and risk taker. SpaceX was a huge gamble. As funny as it was to meme "Just blow up rockets until you get it right", that approach almost bankrupted him. The gamble payed off when mixed with Starlink. He's also unscrupulous in his stock market manipulation, and as part of the PayPal founders he's built some incredibly profitable and predatory anti-consumer practices (anyone who had to deal with PayPal can agree). Fitting for a South African.
