Back when I still played, my favorite was the Vulture for raiding and generally being a dick to other players with my friends, and the Imperial Clipper for everything else.

Beluga. The big whale is surprisingly capable in a surprising number of fields. It can move loads of passengers, yes, but can also be outfitted as a cargo barge or an explorer, and in all those roles while the Type 9 might be more capacious, the Beluga is more defensible due to superior manoeuvrability and handling and speed, as well as all round hardpoint placement, which makes it good for mission running as it can fight off the lower level NPC pirates and escape the higher level ones.

There's even reports of people using it as a full on battlewagon, a real Moby Dick if you will.

Krait MkII. It legitimately is one of the best ships in the game, but half the reason I fly it is due to the boost sound. I'll probably use it as a stealth ship when Odyssey comes out.
I used to love my trusty Python, but when they released the Krait Mk II, I couldn't resist. It looks just as sexy as the Python, but it's slightly more nimble and it can carry a Hangar, which is just totally fucking cool. I sometimes took the small fighter out for a spin, just to enjoy zipping around at insane speeds.

For long journies, I like my Cobra, for Combat, I use the Vulture or Krait.

E: D is one of those few games that are as much a pleasure for the ears as they are for the eyes and the boost sounds of the Krait are just marvelous.

Is it still insanely grindy to get components? Engineers update introducing that kind of killed it for me.

I have a Anaconda that I do exploration missions with, and I t has served me well. I bought it after I made money off of Rhea. How will Odyssey expand the game? Will it be good?

I've been doing alot of SRV stuff lately just for shits and to collect mats, so I've been using the federal dropship for that. Otherwise I'm working on A fitting a type 10. It's hard to say, Fleet carriers are fucking great, I swap ships alot.

They reduced the grind for engineers a bit, yeah. They also let you pin one recipe so you can craft it remotely. And they added Fleet carriers which have a 500ly range, which is perfect for getting around the bubble workshops.

I played the alpha for Odyssey, it's decent. The stations are nice, a bit small. There's alot of NPC life/ambience and the NPC dialogues are actually kind of nice. There's a persuasion system for getting more money from missions. There's a new taxi system for getting around on foot. And it appears as though you can sign up to join the military on foot missions. Overall it's a decent start. I doubt we're gonna get much station variety and size out of Frontier, though, so keep your hopes tempered.

I love my Plasma Accelerator Vulture. So much fun to fly, and it really punches above its weight. One-shotting low level pirate scum never gets old. But overall I think my favorite is the Python, just because it's so versatile. Sounds like I might need to try out the Krait MkII.

I use a Diamondback Explorer engineered for cold running the most, have an Anaconda when I need to move a bunch of stuff, and Imperial Clipper and Courier for kicks. I've also got an Asp Explorer, but am thinking of swapping it out for a Krait Phantom.

I suspect the layout and decor of the stations will be tied to the economy type of the planet they orbit, like when they brought in alternate interiors in 2.2.

Also with a bit of luck they might extend rescue missions to use space legs as well. Station boarded and under attack by terrorists / thargoids, grab your rifles and hold them off while everyone escapes to the passenger bays.

Jesus by the time Star Citizen comes out (lol it never will) Elite Dangerous will be fucking miles upon miles ahead of it.

I don't want to oversell things here, Elite's new content is very No Man's Skyish, i.e. shallow procedural cookie-cutter stuff. There are only a few different types of station you can walk in, a few different types of ground base, NPCs all act the same, etc. After a couple of hours you'll have seen all of the new content. They're all nice touches for the game, but don't go in expecting every planet to be Skyrim when what they actually are is a small Skyrim village copied and pasted a thousand times.

Still better than Star Citizen in that the content is actually functional, however.

At some point you have to accept that copy and pasting is necessary in a game that spans the entire galaxy, so that was never a problem with me (although the station variant update they did was nice). You really have to be a certain kind of insane to play a space trucker game for hours on end since 90% of the time you're going to be staring at a black background with dots, even if all the stations and cities are completely unique. The thing that Odyssey needs to do right is have the missions be dynamic and different from the flight missions, or you're going to look at the board and say "oh, it's kill X pirates but on the ground". I've heard from people playing the alpha that stealth on the ground is pretty much broken, as in barely working, so I hope they fix it. Copy pasting is going to become much more noticeable and unacceptable when they get to true atmospheric planets (if they ever do), so they will have to figure that out.

Last I time played ED was years ago... but it ran perfectly stable, never had any issues or framerate drops, no bugs and it was a lot of fun.
ED won't be miles ahead of SC, it already is in pretty much every way. SC offers a lot more ideas and semi-finished content, but it's a buggy mess and it seems like it does nothing really well.
ED seems to specialize on the space-sim and size aspect and has some neat bits bolted on top of that like being able to walk around on the ground now.

I can forgive some jank and if it takes them some time to flesh out their content (assuming they will do that), I am totally fine with what they do now.

I actually fairly approve of stealth in Elite right now; crouching doesn't make you just magically vanish and if the NPCs see you, they will stand and stare at you rather than turn their back on the random stranger in their base, and they get pissed if you have a weapon drawn. It's refreshingly realistic, even if it does make sneaking around difficult.

Currently downloading. It is pretty chunksome is this expansion. Then again it is the first real expansion since Horizons in 2016 (I don't count Beyond as an expansion, more a collection of patches.)

I doubt I'll get any actual flight time today though. I may even have to leave the PC on overnight to download.

Well then When it is installed, share your thoughts!

I dont plan on buying this day one though.

The sense I'm getting from Exigeous's stream is that it's not much improved over Alpha. There's been some brokenness that might be just related to Day 1 server upgrade issues, but what we saw in Alpha was most of what we got on Day 1.

Edit: And the servers are down. Now every streamer is just staring at the Loading screen, LOL. Not an amazing launch day.
