Space Antifa, the NMLA, bombed a bunch of stations last week which I assume this plotline will result in Space legs next month. Either way, big community event going on, delivering medical supplies to the victims of the terror attacks, and the rewards include tons of credits by Thursday, and each faction is offering upgraded parts that are pretty much better in every way from regular stock parts by Thursday. As well as Permits to their home systems. As someone who maxed out the Empire's trust Im gonna go for the Federation. I want to see good ol' Sol. But now's the time to get back in the game, and get some space money ready for the upcoming expansion.

Alas, I'm currently halfway between Sgr A* and the star that's the furthest possible from Colonia.

Time to fire it up and get jonking back to the bubble.

Gotta be honest, this doesn't look mindblowing or anything, but depending on how the finished product turns out, this could be a decent starting point for a really nice expansion and some enjoyable FPS element in the game. Even just being able to walk around on a spacestation, my own ship or a small settlement would be much appreciated.
Elite: Dangerous already granted me a wish I ever had since I first played Conflict Freespace, to seamlessly travel from a planet's surface to the stars, to glide through the rings of a planet and to see amazing nebulas up close. If it now will grant me the ability to walk around a spacestation, even if it's a bit janky and awkward, it'll still be swell.

keep and eye out for Thargoids and good luck

Thanks. Though I don't think there are any Thargoids in the galactic north-east. There's a Guardian ruin at the Eorl Auwsy nebula but that's about it really.

Now that's the stuff. Being able to walk around a space station and watch ships come and go from an observation deck is way more appealing to me than some janky FPS stuff (though I'll gladly take the janky FPS stuff, too).

I could watch the docking bay activities for hours from that bar. I hope that the bars will look a bit different, depending on the type of station, too.

One thing I always keep thinking when I play this, and now taken to 11 with this, is, how difficult would it be to make a single player game out of this? Get some writers to throw together a story, make some set piece battles on foot and in space then have a shit load of procedural generated trade/exploration missions that are inherently built into the game as-is, and as I am writing this I realise I am just describing freelancer.

Apart from a few dozen story charactor models you wouldn't need to create any assets, make any new gameplay, just Mass Effect as originally envisioned, in a real ass open-universe sandbox.

It was originally designed as a single player game, all the autists who originally got it only wanted an SP game. But then Frontier decided they needed to compete with Chris Roberts and they had this ad hoc MP mode with the easily manipulated background sim.

The game is too vast and player base too small to really make an effective mp game.

You could wrap a single player story around this. But, I just get the feeling it would be "on rails."

The story and lore could work well single player but then you'd lose out on the number of areas with the potential to visit, even on planets.

I don't think the Elite games ever had much in the way of "story", but I've not played the original in many years. They were always just go out and blaze your own path among the stars type games.

This is a huge improvement in fact. Rather than paging through message boards from your cockpit, you go and talk to contacts. I hope the same applies to surface bases. I mean, those big ring-shaped surface cities are clearly designed for you to drive around, so how cool could that be.

Still a bit put out that there's no zero G space legs approaching. I'd have liked to have done an EVA as part of a multi-crew, dodging point defence, busting open the airlocks, and so forth.

I kind of agree, it is much nicer to get a sense of atmosphere and the UIs are great. But I'm worried it'll be a little lifeless, I mean the only real difference between what we have now and the NPC thing is that you have to walk to them. It isn't a conversation or something, its just that the specific screen is now tied to an NPC and you'll have to walk to them. But I think it'll be an improvement, it was really cool to see how the random NPC pictures you see in the mission dialogue are now actually standing in front of you.

some procedurally generated surface bases would be awesome to drive thru, but im not getting my hopes up for that shit.

It looks fun enough, but it's just sad to see that little circle and you automatically teleporting to the pilot's seat. Star Citizen is a scam but at least it has full ship interiors. I would have loved to see the inside of each ship, from the utilitarian Eagle to the luxury Dolphin.

Maybe that's going to be a feature that will come later on, I would appreciate it, too. It's pointless from a gameplay perspective, but it could still be pretty neat for atmosphere and that was always a strongpoint of E: D

Hm, what's everyones personal favourite ship at the moment? Trader myself, so type nines all the way. The palladium must be moved, the spice must flow.

Krait MkII. It legitimately is one of the best ships in the game, but half the reason I fly it is due to the boost sound. I'll probably use it as a stealth ship when Odyssey comes out.
