Pretty sure it was mentioned in the tweet they sent out (posted earlier in the thread) that they were pay walling it to prevent the "bad actors/trolls" from making "abusive content". With them having different paid tiers to grant you access to more words a month.

Then is a grift. They took the original API and modified so they can sell it to someone and are doing this sort of beta testing to promote it.

I'm not going to pay 5 dollars when I can wait a month for someone to release it for free.

Also I'm tired of these faggots limiting creativity. If I knew how to code I would make all these AI with absolutely no parameters and with the capacity of learning from user input. I'll have an AI that's not only smart but also a shitlord.

A quick glance at the service TOS states they own anything you make with it. Fuck that.

Metokur I think does sound like him with no inflection, however Null's is the worst in this entire thread, even Americanized Dankula sounded more akin to it's source than all the Null's.

Maybe that'll be a marketable trait in the future, having a vocal style (or even artistic one) that's hard for AI to recreate.

I went back and listened to the Metokur sample: It's monotone and spoken with an even tempo throughout, which is completely unlike Jim in every respect. He emotes - a lot. That shows up in the form of shifting intonation and timing, which is something this thing still doesn't do for shit.

This sort of thing is ideal for stuff that can be successfully spoken in monotone such as straight-up information delivery, or in cases where you want a monotone delivery to contrast with the content you're delivery (because sarcasm/irony), but sucks moose balls for anything that requires you to emote at all.

Wait about five years (or less), though, and I'm sure someone will come up with a new RNN and training set that will give us everything we need to produce audio that's virtually indistinguishable from the real thing... at which point the market for voice actors will end and we can tell them all to #LearnToCode.
 
Made another Rich Evans, it sounds a bit better, i'm gonna try out that open source one soon to see how it holds up.
 
Can anyone confirm if you can still clone a voice with am account before they announced the paywall? Doesn't seem to work after the announcement.

I made my account before the paywall and still had the 5 custom voices, seems like legacy accounts weren't downgraded. Of course that may just be a oversight on their end and might change in a few days.

Probably because it replicates the real thing so well since the voice is so flat on its own.
