Got a source on the antifa crap? All I recall is the typical #FuckNazis shit also, did they ever confirm if MAGA directly impacted development, I thought Pete Hines and Co. just added it to the advertisements to satisfy ReeeeeeeeEra
I don't. Best I could find was their "punch a nazi" trailer.
A "take a knee" reference.
And an article about them defending the ad campaign.
I can't find the interview where they said they changed the game after Trump was elected.

Now I missed most of E3. But I did see Jim's coverage of Bathesda....and holy shit they really think releasing ANOTHER mobile game is something to be hyped about? I saw nothing other than Doom eternal that was even close to promising. which is probably why they paid that asshole to fucking awooo at everything to make it seem like they have fans who care about their dumb shit.

Yeah, it's pretty lol that the Toddler made a big stink about how he knew F76 was gonna be bad, and it's "what the game will become" and he didn't even have the balls to stay on stage for more than 5 minutes! He had to get one of the devs and Drew Carey to come out and talk about the exciting new content!

And for that guy awooing, I'm pretty sure that's an example of malicious compliance. I'm sure Poppa Pete told the front row that you fuckers better bing bing wahoo or you're gonna get walkin' papers so that guy thought, "Okay, you fuckin' want awoooing, I'm gonna give it to ya!"

What fresh hell is this?

Cal Arts is pure AIDS. My god how did anyone involved in this actually decide this is good design?

It's really amazing that flash games from 2004 look better than this.

Hell Rayman Legends and Rayman Origins had 2d Art imposed over 3d models for their smooth animations. If you're going for the 2d look it takes skill to have them work in a 3d environment. When they're jumping out of the screen you can see just how little animation there is between keyframes. Old games from the 16 and 32 bit eras had far more than that as well.

I want to think making Battletoads crappy is part of some interior plot to devalue Rare for Nintendo to buy it back.
Lol

It would be Sony who would buy it. If Nintendo had banjo kazooie under their control they would kill it due to it competing with mario. The reason why F-Zero is dead is because it competes with mario kart.

I mean, Donkey Kong still lives, even though 2D Mario games aren’t quite dead yet.

F-Zero's dead status has to do with the fact that they've been unable to come up with some new features to compliment the existing game play.

There's plenty of room for Advance Wars to return, I'd like to see a new strategy game that doesn't have an obnoxious mandatory dating sim wedged in the middle. I wanna see Nell and Olaf send hundreds of soldiers to their deaths, not fuck each other.

The problem with the Advanced Wars series is that it was never really that popular, and neither was Battalion Wars. So the Nintendo Wars series is practically dead now. Fire Emblem was on its way to the same fate, had Fire Emblem Awakening not been the runaway success that it became. Honestly, dating sim elements and waifus would probably be the only way I see of saving the Wars series from death.

I don't know. Yeah, they haven't been that popular, but they were really never marketed much. Strategy games have always been niche, with most of them being PC exclusive and much grittier and more detailed than console-friendly ones. But, console ones do have a market, as demonstrated by the ever-popular Disgaea series, and it's a good sign that the Dark Crystal game that just came out of the blue is a tactical strategy game. Oh, and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle was basically XCom Jr.

Nintendo Wars games aren't even that complex, they don't have that much dialog and already have a fairly large, established cast. It seems like the kind of game they could make on the cheap for a nice fat paycheck. There's definitely room for one. As a retail release? Maybe not, but a digital release would sell.

Or they could just slap Advance Wars 1+2 together, sell it on Switch, and call it a day. I'd buy it.

Also, include Hetler as a playable character, Nintendo. Do it you pussies

I see a lot of A-loggers who call new Battletoads SJW because they covered up the Dark Queen. The artstyle isn't amazing (no shading at points, and it's not that smooth), but the complaints against this game are ridiculous.

I personally think that Sword and Shield looks worse. Pokemon is the highest grossing media franchise ever. So, why does the game look like an early Xbox 360 game? The gameplay had better redeem the artstyle.

When I said they didn't sell well, what I meant was they don't sell at all. Not a single Advanced Wars game broke one million units sold. Their sales were comparable to Fire Emblem games of the time, and, like a said, Fire Emblem was going to be cancelled until Awakening became a surprise hit and saved that series. Nintendo has no financial incentive to resurrect franchise that never sold that well to begin with and never had much international recognition when they can just keep investing in series that already do well and make money. Remember that the Nintendo Wars series and Fire Emblem were Japan exclusive for a long time, and were brought over to America at around the same time, where they both failed to gather significant audiences (at least initially). Advanced Wars has never had more than a cult following at best, and the only way it will get any kind of investment is if it makes massive changes and goes all out, Awakening style.

Haha, the trailer has over double the dislikes to likes:

It just doesn't look like it'll have the visceral sensation a beat-em-up needs to be good. 2D animation that has a unique frame, every frame, running at 60fps is a lot of work to make, but always looks great. The right speed, timing, and even sound effect for each attack is vital to make a satisfying beat-em-up, and Battletoads just doesn't have it. They're in the ballpark, they've got the whole "the fist gets huge when they punch" thing implemented, but they just need to stick it back in the oven for a while.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game was one of my favorite beat-em-ups I've ever played, and I think they got pretty close to doing it right. Notice how smooth and fast the animation is. The sound effects are sort of quiet in this video due to the music being cranked up, but my point stands:

Comparing Scott Pilgrim to Battletoads really shows how much life and energy they managed to give the game. Beat-em-ups live and die on their spectacle, making the player feel like they're kicking ass, taking names, and having a great time doing it. They have to in order to keep the player engaged, since you'll be fighting the same villains over and over and over and over.

Another great game to consider is Battle Circuit:

It's from 1997, but it's a great game with good animation and a lot of life. Both Scott Pilgrim and Battle Circuit feel inspired. Battletoads... I just don't know, man.

I disagree. Maybe it was limited to the UK or my circle of friends, but I remember Advanced Wars 1 and 2 being everywhere when they came out.

Fire Emblem was very obscure, but when they started getting popular was also when Nintendo started censoring them like crazy and some people, myself included, didn't play the games because of that.

Nintendo doesn't make new F-Zero, Metroid, and Starfox games because they can't crowbar in their latest controller gimmick without ruining the gameplay. Starfox 64 came with a rumble pack. I never played the WiiU version but I'm told it's a mess of broken controls and Starfox Command had that stupid touch screen stuff forced in.

Nintendo could easily make a new Wars game. It could be done cheap too. There was an Xbox 360 Arcade game called Commanders: Attack of the Genos that was basically a 3D Wars game. Yeah, it wouldn't be Smash Bros level of popular, but then nothing really is.

I see a lot of A-loggers who call new Battletoads SJW because they covered up the Dark Queen. The artstyle isn't amazing (no shading at points, and it's not that smooth), but the complaints against this game are ridiculous.
It's more than just the Dark Queen. It's like how people focused on time it takes to unlock Darth Vader in Battlefront 2, the "my face is tired" line in Mass Effect Andromeda, or the tree you couldn't plant in Fable. It's not that one complaint that matters, it's focused on because it's emblematic of the games flaws. I think you know this.

No one wants a shitty, watered down, calarts Battletoads game. People remember the arcade game, or even the Snes version.
It's not unreasonable to ask that a new game be at least as good as something made 25 years ago.

But let's be generous. Let's say that the 90s attitude and high detail pixel art is out dated. What should they do instead? It's not as if there was an Xbox Arcade game that did better on a small budget.
And now I feel old realizing that Castle Crashers was made 10 years ago.

Another great game to consider is Battle Circuit
Battle Circuit is great. The last of the classic beat 'em ups.
