'The hip' is kind've an odd place to touch sexually if you think about it. Like did he grab at their ass, or was his hand just sitting on a man's bony side hip? Who would be attracted to that?

If you're gay, just don't go to Dubai. Or the UAE. Or really any Muslim country where they still imprison or execute gay people. What is so fucking hard to understand about this?

This reminds me of another :story: that took place in Islamabad in the year 1998. A boy and his uncle were accused of blasphemy and sentenced to death, because the boy had allegedly written slurs against Islam on a blackboard and wiped them away soon after. The court repealed the sentence, because nobody of the witnesses wanted to repeat the slurs. They feared a divine revenge from Allah himself.

There was a similar case that happened around 2013 in Dubai, A man was arrested and accused by the victim for "gay handshaking".

An Emirati man has gone on trial accused of insulting a colleague with a “gay” handshake, on Tuesday.

Dubai Court of Misdemeanors was told a 39-year-old Emirati man shook “the victim’s” palm whilst tingling it with his middle finger.

The court was also told by the prosecution that “the gesture was insulting and insinuated the recipient was homosexual.”

The defendant denied charges of insulting the fellow fireman, threatening him and committing an “indecent act” by shaking his hand in a “perverted way”.

"The handshake in question occurred between a pair of firefighters with a longstanding grudge. The prosecution has charged the defendant with indecency for shaking hands in a “perverted” manner. The supposed “victim” says that, when shaking hands with his coworker, the defendant rubbed his middle finger on his palm." - reports Care2

So even if you are not gay, you're still gonna get arrested for anything the victim finds offensive, especially if it's giving a middle finger to somebody else.

It’s most likely the same reason a person would touch a woman’s hips. Wide hips on a woman is very sexually attractive and signals that she’s fertile.
 
If I remember rightly, the dude touched the other guys hip to say 'Get out the way, drink coming through' as he walked by. Fuck Dubai though. Overpriced destination for wankers.

That's true, but they have an huge black-market for alcohol. Death penalty for smuggling alcohol is absolutely not seldom, yet you can find a shit ton of Saudi princes who'll only throw a party if alcohol is available.

Foreign workers in Saudi Arabia are usually constricted to live in special districts, where certain rules are a wee bit less draconian. But this only applies to highly skilled workers as long as they stay in their assigned residence. And even then you should be very, very careful about your actions. You'll only be safe, if you avoid Saudi citiziens at all costs.

Sounds like pretty standard general life advice
 
Any of the international chain hotels had booze in their hotel bars. Hilton, Hyatt, Westin, etc.

Not sure if there were any bars outside of that though. I visited because:military, and we were warned to keep our drinking to the hotels to avoid getting in trouble with the locals.
